Armor Sets Are Not Genderlocked in Monster Hunter Wilds

At Gamescom 2024, CAPCOM is holding a number of special developer livestreams for Monster Hunter Wilds, revealing a ton of new information and details about the game. One of the most interesting details during Wild's first day of coverage is that armour sets will no longer be genderlocked.

Armor Sets Are Not Genderlocked in Monster Hunter Wilds

Following the reveal of two new monsters for Monster Hunter Wilds as well as a new area, The Scarlet Forest, at Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live, CAPCOM has begun holding a series of livestreams for Wilds, giving audiences our first raw look at various elements of gameplay. In these livestreams, the Monster Hunter team has given us an in-depth look at several new Monsters – including the recently revealed apex predator Rey Dau – as well as new weapons, features, and quality-of-life improvements.

One of the most exciting smaller quality-of-life changes is that armour in Monster Hunter Wilds is no longer genderlocked. In previous Monster Hunter titles, all armour sets had two variants based on which body type your Hunter was. If you were a female Hunter, all of your armour sets would be the female variant, with no way to access or equip the male equivalents unless you changed body types using a voucher.

Meanwhile, in Wilds, you will be able to craft a male and female version of all armour sets no matter your Hunter’s body type. This will allow you to mix and match the pieces you like while retaining all of the same stat bonuses and Skill effects. For example, even if you’re playing as a male Hunter, you’ll still be able to rock the elegant main body dress from hunting Lala Barina, while female Hunters will get to don the stylish hood seen in the male Pukei Pukei gear set.

This change to the armour comes alongside a suite of other innovative and interesting additions to the usual Monster Hunter formula. In the first livestream, CAPCOM also showcased the new 3D map, the intelligent NPC Hunters you can recruit for your hunts, the seamless transition from the open biomes directly into quests, the new weather system, and more.

The first Monster Hunter Wilds Developer Livestream for Gamescom 2024 is currently available to watch on the Monster Hunter official YouTube Channel. Further Developer Livestreams, including one that shows off co-op, will be available over the next few days.
