Age of Empires was the introduction to the RTS genre for many gamers. It’s been a classic from its early days back in 1997. The 25th anniversary of the series is fast approaching, with the initial release of the first game having been on October 15th 1997. To celebrate the games quarter centennial the creators have two things planned. An anniversary broadcast and the release of the Age of Empires IV Anniversary Edition and update.
The Anniversary Broadcast
The Anniversary broadcast for Age of Empires is still shrouded in mystery. The creators haven’t revealed much about what can be expected. They have stated that there will be interviews with the team and announcements, but other than that they want to keep it a surprise. The broadcast will take place on the 25th October, at 5pm GMT, or 10am PT and 1pm ET. This will take place across the following 5 channels.
Age of Empires IV Anniversary Edition
October 25th will also see the release of the Age of Empires IV Anniversary Edition. The game will release on Steam and the Microsoft store; however it will be free to those who already own Age of Empires IV.
The Anniversary Edition comes with the base game and all the updates that have come out so far. It also brings two new factions, the Ottomans and Malians, as well as two new biomes and eight new maps. Along with this comes new achievements and mastery challenges. Season 3 will start with ranked team games, improved naval balancing and the ability to place waypoint markers. The new season also means you will have the chance to unlock new rewards. Lastly the anniversary update will add new languages to the game. These are Hindi, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Czech, Norwegian, Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Finnish and Portuguese.
