DESIGN

The Govee Neon Rope truly deserves its name. This is not your ordinary, fragile LED strip where the not-so-pretty lights are visible and exposed to natural elements. No, this is a robust, flexible, and high-quality rope that is several levels above standard LED strips. Don’t get me wrong, the classic LED lamps are still present inside, but it’s their housing that elevates this product. This housing is primarily made of flexible silicone material, with one side being semi-transparent and serving as an excellent light diffuser for the illumination coming from within.

The build quality is excellent.

Not only that, but the silicone material greatly contributes to the overall durability of the product as it provides excellent protection for the LEDs. It is so sturdy that you can lean on it or even step on it without damaging any of the lights inside. The material is also very smooth and has a premium appearance, ensuring that the Neon Rope will look good even when the lights are off if you place it somewhere visible, such as on a wall.

The rope is 3 meters long and 1,5 cm wide, with each end covered by a small piece of plastic, while on one side there is a tiny controller with buttons for turning the lights on and off, dimming and brightening, and switching to other display effects. The controller itself is the point where the rope connects to the power source, and although the cable is sufficiently long, it’s still important to consider its position in relation to where the power outlet is located.

The controller is simple yet effective.

A common downside of such robust LED ropes is often the inability to adjust the length, but that is not the case here. The Govee Neon Rope actually has 12 cutting points at every 7 cm, allowing you to confidently trim and shorten the rope. These points start from the edges, so it is possible to reduce the initial 3-meter length to a minimum of 2 meters and 14 cm. In this case, simply move the plastic cover from the old edge to the new one.

The obvious downside is that you won’t be able to extend the length of the rope again, but you probably don’t have a habit of frequently changing tables, so this shouldn’t be an issue. As for installation, the backside of the rope features a fairly strong adhesive that ensures there won’t be any shifting or falling of the rope, whether you attach it to a table, wall, or any other type of surface.

PERFORMANCE

When it comes to the actual lights that the Govee Neon Rope produces, it’s an understatement to say they look stunning. The “IC” abbreviation in “RGBIC” stands for “independent control,” meaning that the rope can produce multiple types of lights simultaneously and that each segment can be controlled separately. There are 84 bright LEDs segmented into 42 zones which in turn means the Govee Neon Rope can create those beautiful, smooth transitions between colors and effects that you won’t get with cheap LED lights.

Govee RGBIC LED Neon Rope Beautiful Lights

The lights can look absolutely beautiful.

Govee does not specify the lumens the rope produces, and while it’s quite bright, it will never be so bright as to illuminate an entire room. Its purpose is more to serve as ambient lighting depending on your mood.If you decide to place the Govee rope somewhere other than the backside of a table, it’s great that the mentioned diffuser is so effective in preventing the glare you would typically get with regular LED lights – even if you look directly at it.

But, as with many premium lighting products, the application and customization options for the rope are what make a significant difference. In this case, it’s the Govee Home app, which is incredibly robust in the best possible sense. Not only that but it generally looks and performs great – the icons are colorful and visually appealing, and any changes made within the app are instantly transferred to the rope itself. There’s no lag, unresponsiveness, or anything of the sort. Not only can you connect and synchronize all the Govee lights you have in the rooms of your home with the app – there is a multitude of options for customizing each individual light.

The effects are smooth and beautiful to look at

In this regard, it is possible to create your own templates in which you can assign a specific color or effect to each individual segment of the rope. If you don’t feel like doing that, the app features dozens of editable templates divided into convenient categories such as nature, festivals, lifestyle, emotions, or gaming.

You also have the option to synchronize the lights with music, either using the microphone on the rope itself or the microphone of a connected mobile device. This option, of course, has its own templates, and it’s possible to adjust the sound detection sensitivity so that the rope doesn’t react to more silent stuff like the PC fans spinning.

App Customization

The app allows for a high degree of customization

Of course, the rope is also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, which means you have the welcome option of controlling it with voice commands. Naturally, you won’t be able to execute all the functionalities of the Govee Home app through voice commands, but simple actions like turning the lights on and off and changing colors are available and work quite well.

Summary
There's no dancing around the fact that Govee RGBIC LED Neon Rope is one of the most premium RGB strips you can get your hands on. At $89.99, it might cost more than your average LED strip, but you definitely get your money's worth here.
