What Thelxie's Morse Code Means in Genshin Impact | Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures Translated

The latest flagship event for Genshin Impact Version 4.2, Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventure, is one of the best we’ve had in a while. There are fun and interesting activities to do in the Fontaine waters, puzzles to solve and enemies to beat down in a rather satisfying edition of a combat challenge. However, perhaps the best part of the event is its heartfelt story which revolves around the titular mechanical penguin, Thelxie. Created to be the proxy of the King of Water Imps in Fontaine, Thelxie is a penguin of few words and what words they do speak come out in Morse Code, leaving him as a cute mascot for the majority of the event’s runtime.

However, Thelxie is saying things and you can decipher what he is saying by decoding his language from Morse Code. There are additional steps to understanding Thelxie – mainly because his text is, on top of being in Morse Code, part of a cypher – but it is well worth it and paints the already excellent in an even better, sadder light once you decode Thelxie fully.

Here are all of Thelxie’s lines from the new Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventures event in Genshin Impact translated from Morse Code, including what they mean and how to decode them yourself.

Thelxie’s Morse Code in Genshin Impact

English Translation

During the event, there are 11 different instances where Thelxie speaks in Morse Code: three times during the event’s opening animation, two times during Act 1, three times during Act 2 and three times during Act 3. Several of these lines are the same, with the same words or phrases popping up over multiple Acts.

Beginning with the event’s opening animation, Thelxie’s first lines of Morse Code accompany the beautiful artwork for the event. These lines pop up again on the Water Imp Prince furniture item, a statue of the Thelxie penguin which you receive upon completing the event 100%.

  • – ..-. …- — (TFVM)
  • … ..-. .– ..-. … (SFWSF)
  • -. .— … -… -… — ..-. (NJSBDMF)

As for Thelxie’s first lines during the event, they come in Act 1. There are two separate instances where Thelxie speaks here and they translate as so.

  • -.. -… .– -… (DBWB)
  • -.. .–. -. –.- -… …. — .— ..-. (DPNQBHOJF)

Thelxie also has some stuff to say in Act 2 of the event:

  • –. -… . — -… (DBEMB)
  • -.- ..-. ..- -… .— -. ..-. -. -… -. -… — (KFUBJNFNBNBO)
  • -.. -… .– -… (DBWB)

Finally, in the closing Act of the event, Thelxie has three more lines:

  • -.. -… .– -… (DBWB)
  • -.. -… .– -…?! (DBWB?!)
  • -.- ..-. ..- -… .— -. ..-. -. -… -. -… — (KFUBJNFNBNBO)

Caeser Cypher Translation

Even if you translate Thelxie’s lines via a Morse Code translator, they come up as gibberish. The words that come out are nonsense and don’t mean anything… at least, they don’t mean anything in English.

The real meaning and intention behind Thelxie’s dialogue can only be understood if you run the text through a cypher, the Caesar Cypher to be more specific. In this type of Cypher, you need to move all of the codes once to the left, giving you a key of (-1). For example, the letter B would become the letter A, N would become M and so on.

To solve Thelxie's cipher, you need to move all the letters to the left by one space, getting you a (-1) key | Genshin Impact Thelxie Morse Code

Genshin’s Caesar Cipher

With this information in hand, we can take another look at all of Thelxie’s lines. We’ll begin in the same order as the first set of translations, starting with the words seen in the event’s cinematic opening:

  • TFVM > SEUL
  • SFWFS > REVER
  • NJSBDMF > MIRACLE

Following on from that are the two sentences Thelxie speaks in the rest of Act 1:

  • DBWB > CAVA
  • DPNQBHOJF > COMPAGNIE

Then we have Act 2’s dialogue:

  • DBEMB = CADLA
  • KFUBJNFNBNBO = JETAIMEMAMAN (JE T’AIME MAMAN)
  • DBWB = CAVA

And then, once again, we get to Thelxie’s final few lines in Act 3:

  • DBWB = CAVA
  • DBWB?! = CAVA?!
  • KFUBJNFNBNBO = JETAIMEMAMAN (JE T’AIME MAMAN)

Now that we’ve deciphered the Morse Code and have it translated correctly, we need to translate it from its root language into English.

French Translation

Finally, using the correct translation from Caesar Cypher, we can translate all of Thelxie’s words into French. Why French? Well, the region this event is set in, Fontaine, is heavily inspired by France, to the point where much of the nation’s culture and customs comes from France in some way shape or form.

With that in mind, we can revisit all of Thelxie’s lines of Morse Code for a third time, starting, of course, with the event’s opening animations:

  • SEUL = Alone
  • REVER = Dream
  • MIRACLE = Miracle

Then, in the rest of Act 1, we can translate Thelxie’s dialogue accordingly:

  • CA VA = How are you?
  • COMPAGNIE = Company
A Conversation We Cannot Hear

Act 2:

  • CADLA = That’s it?
  • JE T’AIME MAMAN = I love you, Mom

Then lastly in Act 3:

  • CA VA = How are you?
  • CA VA?! = Are you okay?!
  • JE T’AIME MAMAN = I love you, Mom

In the end, Thelxie’s lines of dialogue are incredibly sweet and incredibly sad, matching the tone of the rest of the event perfectly. Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventures continues Fontaine’s tradition of being some of the most dark, depressing and poignant storytelling we’ve seen yet in Genshin Impact.

That was how to decode and understand all of Thelxie’s dialogue in the latest Genshin Impact event.
