It’s safe to say that usable, high-end Intelligence Weapons in Elden Ring are few far and far between. Aside from their staffs and staves, magic users often wind up using a greatsword as their close-range only weapon.
Luckily for all of us Intelligence enjoyers, Elden Ring has a slew of brilliant weapons available for a mage who’s looking to use something other than the same old sorceries.
Moonveil Katana
Dubbed one of the best Intelligence weapons in Elden Ring, the Moonveil Katana simply knows no equal and for good reason. The large majority of high-end intelligence weapons are usually oversized greatswords or halberds but the Moonveil subverts these pre-established expectations.
As the name implies, this sword is a katana, meaning that it has access to a very quick and potent moveset. It even has a unique skill named Transient Moonlight, which sees the user briefly sheathe the blade and then draw it quickly, unleashing a wave of pure magical energy.
In terms of pure damage, the Moonveil is no joke. Not only is it capable of dealing both Slashing and Piercing damage, the Moonveil scales with both Dexterity and Intelligence stats. As you might expect, this allows the user to easily burn through any enemy’s health bar.
Getting your hands on this powerful katana is quite a challenge for early-game characters. It requires you to take down the Magma Wyvern, which resides in Gael Tunnel, Caelid.
The Moonveil Katana is a fast and deadly blade, able to slice enemies to ribbons.
Dark Moon Greatsword
This Intelligence Weapon is Elden Ring’s version of the Moonlight Greatsword, a classic weapon that appears in almost every one of Fromsoftware’s games. The current iteration of this legendary sword is perfect for mage builds.
Able to dish out reliable amounts of damage, this greatsword is already fairly strong. But this damage gets even better when you use its signature skill, Moonlight Greatsword, which coats the blade in a brilliant, blue glow. In this form, each strike you land will deal additional magic damage and apply the Frostbite status effect.
If this wasn’t already enough, you can also use Moonlight Greatsword to shoot magic that applies the aforementioned status effect.
The only downside to the Darkmoon Greatsword is that it’s locked behind a challenging boss and Ranni the Witch’s quest line. Despite that, I would say that this sword is well worth the effort.
The Darkmoon Greatsword is a greatsword that’s cold to the touch. Deathly cold, in fact.
Wing Of Astel
Normally, Curved Swords are usually better suited for Dexterity or Strength builds. Making the Wing Of Astel a rather refreshing and potent weapon, especially for mages.
Scaling with both the Intelligence and Dexterity stats, the Wing Of Astel moveset revolves around rapid swings and devastating slashes. To make up for its lack of range, this curved sword has the skill, Nebula, which sees the blade fire off a blast of magical light.
You’ll be able to find this ethereal weapon in the time-forgotten, Uhl Palace Ruins. It will be sitting in a chest, behind a particularly annoying Malformed Star enemy.
This otherwordly curved sword contains a mystical, unknown energy
Loretta’s War Sickle
This magical polearm is a favourite of both mine and Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree. It excels at keeping enemies at bay and closing the gap between them whenever you feel the urge.
This sickle’s moveset has a much faster moveset than any regular old halberd and can easily hit larger enemies, thanks to its diagonal slashes and slices. Loretta’s War Sickle has a potent weaponskill called Loretta’s Slash, which sees the user fly towards their target and slice them with a blade of pure magic.
It’s rather straightforward to get your hands on this intelligence weapon but you’ll have to have access to Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. When you reach the end of the area, you’ll have to take on Loretta herself to get her magical halberd.
With a lightning-fast moveset and an ethereal, magical blade, Loretta’s War Sickle is every mage’s best friend.
Sword Of Night & Flame
At first glance, this weapon just appears to be a simple straight sword but it’s much more than that. In reality, the Sword of Night & Flame is a melee weapon that doubles as a magical catalyst. It also scales with four different stats, making it a perfect fit for both Faith and Intelligence weapon builds.
Aside from its special weaponskill, this straight sword’s moveset is just like any other’s. Simple but reliable. Regarding its specific technique, Night-Flame Stance, the sword is capable of using both a sweeping blast of fire and a powerful beam of magic. It’s possible to even combo these two attacks if you have enough FP and Stamina.
You can obtain this legendary armament on the east side of Caria Manor, in a locked room behind the gardens.
This straight-sword is capable of shooting both fire and magic, on top of its regular moveset.
Conclusion
Overall all of these weapons are incredibly powerful and are the perfect off-hand weapon for any mage. The majority of them are even more potent when you power-stance them whilst using them. I recommend utilizing both your left and right-hand weapon slots, the more of these weapons you can use at once, the better.
