The Sims 4 Lovestruck: How to Find All Axolotls

If you're struggling to find all 15 axolotls in Ciudad Enamorada from The Sims 4 Lovestruck Expansion Pack, this guide will help you complete your collection. Obtain axolotls by looking in special logs and through breeding.

The Sims 4 Lovestruck How to Find All Axolotls

In The Sims 4, there are a ton of different collectibles you can find. With The Sims 4 Lovestruck Expansion Pack, there’s a new type of collectible: axolotls. These cute and endearing looking amphibians can be found around the new city of Ciudad Enamorada. Although there are only 15 of them in total to find, getting all of them can be quite tricky. However, with patience, you can complete your collection. This guide aims to help you find all 15 axolotls in Ciudad Enamorada.

We have lots more guides for The Sims 4, including these:

What Are Axolotls?

Axolotls are very unusual creatures. They are amphibians, a type of salamander, and have the reputation of “never growing up”, staying in their tadpole form forever. They always live in water.

It’s appropriate that axolotls in The Sims 4 can only be found in Ciudad Enamorada, the city world that came with the Lovestruck Expansion, since axolotls in the real world are native to wetlands and lakes in southern Mexico City. Ciudad Enamorada is heavily inspired by Mexican cities. Axolotls also live in zoos, labs, and are even kept as pets. Wild axolotls are typically brown-grey, but you can also get albino axolotls, which are pink in color. The albino axolotls are especially popular as pets.

One interesting feat about axolotls is the ability to regenerate body parts. Not only can they grow back limbs, but also their eyes and parts of their brain!

Sadly, axolotls are among those animals that are Critically Endangered. There’s thought to be no more than 1,000 adult axolotls living in the wild, which really isn’t many. It’s probably for this reason that in The Sims 4, axolotls cannot be sold for money. You can only release them back into the wild where they came from. However, you can keep them.

Axolotls in The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, as discussed above, axolotls can only be found in the world of Ciudad Enamorada, which comes with The Sims 4 Lovestruck Expansion Pack. Don’t bother trying to look for them elsewhere.

They also aren’t the easiest of creatures to find. They live in a specific type of habitat in the city. Once you have at least two axolotl in your Sim’s inventory, you can also breed them to potentially discover new types of axolotls. What makes axolotl collecting so difficult is that these two activities are time limited. Logs can only be collected once a day. Also, once you breed two axolotls, you need to wait a while before you can do it again. Additionally, with 15 axolotls and 4 of them being rare, it’s harder to get all of them. However, that’s not to say it’s impossible. You just need to mix these two methods, and have lots of time and patience. We’ll go into more detail further in this guide on finding axolotls.

Start your collection by looking in logs, then when you have enough, start breeding them.

Once you’ve got an axolotl, what can you do with it? As we’ve already mentioned, you cannot sell axolotls and make a profit for them, so don’t go collecting them with this purpose in mind.

Selling axolotls is a no-go. You can instead keep them, breed them, or release them back into the wild.

Selling axolotls is a no-go. You can instead keep them, breed them, or release them back into the wild.

You can keep axolotls and put them on display. You cannot do much with them. You can’t feed them or hold them or rename them. Your first option is to View them. This action doesn’t give your Sim any moodlets. You just get a notification of what type of axolotl it is. Interestingly, if you watch the axolotl’s cage closely, you’ll see funny faces being drawn over the axolotl’s face. This is done at random and autonomously; you cannot change the faces yourself. Another thing to note is that displaying axolotls gives an Environment score of 3.

The other option is to release them back into the wild. You can do this by selecting the axolotl in the world or in your Sim’s inventory. You can also select any axolotl log. You’ll see the option Release Axolotl to Habitat. Doing this immediately sends the axolotl away, and it gives your Sim an Inspired moodlet. This is the only way to get rid of axolotls if you choose not to keep them

How Can I Get Axolotls?

There are two ways of getting axolotls in The Sims 4. One is by looking in special logs around Ciudad Enamorada. The second is by breeding two axolotls to make another axolotl. By combining these two methods, eventually, you’ll get all 15 axolotls.

Axolotls come in different rarities: common, uncommon, and rare. Rare ones are very hard to come by. Uncommon ones are a little easier to get. Once you finally get one rare axolotl, getting the final 3 rare ones should be quite easy. You can breed the rare axolotl with the uncommon or common ones to potentially get another rare axolotl, then breed the two rare ones, and so on until all 15 are discovered.

One important thing you should do if you’re aiming to find all 15 axolotls is to keep at least one of each type of axolotl you find in your inventory. Even two of the same. This way, you can breed new ones with the ones you’ve got. If you get lots of the same type of axolotl, you can let them go and just keep one or two of the same to make it easier to track them.

At times, it may seem that getting all 15 in your collection is impossible, especially the hard-to-get rare ones. However, take my word that it is not impossible. You will eventually find one rare axolotl which you can then breed and hopefully get the other rare ones. You just need a lot of patience with looking in logs and breeding combined.

Yes! A rare axolotl at last!

Looking in Logs

You may come across a log with water in it. This is the axolotl’s special home. These logs spawn around ponds, specifically the ones in the neighborhoods Plaza Mariposa and Vista Hermosa. However, these logs can be quite scarce. You may only be able to find one of these axolotl logs. Nevertheless, you will be able to collect an axolotl from these logs.

Looking in logs always guarantees that you’ll find an axolotl. Your Sims won’t come away empty-handed. However, there is no way of telling what axolotl you’ll get. You’re more likely to get a common one than an uncommon or rare one, but it is completely random.

You can only collect one axolotl from a log at one time. After you’ve got an axolotl, it will disappear. However, the log will reappear again in one day, allowing you to collect more.

With these logs, you can also release axolotls on your Sim’s inventory back into the wild.

Breeding

The second way of getting axolotls in The Sims 4 is by breeding them. At first, this method won’t be available, as you need two axolotls to breed. Once you find two axolotls in the wild, you can start breeding.

When breeding, you can breed two different types of axolotl, or two of the same type. This will immediately result in a new axolotl being created, appearing in your Sim’s inventory. You might get a brand-new previously-undiscovered axolotl, or a copy of one you’ve already got or found.

Breeding is a good way of getting new axolotls. However, there is a trial-and-error system to it. You’re never 100% sure what axolotl you’ll get from breeding. The best thing to do is mix and match, keep track of what you’ve bred together, what results you got. Once you obtain a new axolotl, breed it with the previous axolotls you’ve found to see if you get even more new axolotls.

There is something important you need to know about axolotl breeding. It’s quite consuming for your Sim. Not that it depletes their Energy Need or one of their other Needs, but your Sim must rest before they can try breeding again. You need to wait at least 3 – 4 Sim hours before you can do it again.

Using Hidden Objects Cheat

If you’re seriously struggling to get all the axolotls, especially the rare ones, there is a third way – if you don’t mind doing a bit of cheating. You can get all 15 axolotls through the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat, which unlocks Debug mode. Axolotls can be found under here (you can filter them under the Lovestruck Expansion if there are a lot of objects to look through.) All the axolotls should be there, which you can then place on the Lot.

If you’re not really a fan of cheating but feel there’s no other option, one thing you could do is instead of getting all the axolotls via Debug, get one of the rare axolotls and then breed it with one of your existing axolotls. This will give you a little helping hand if you’ve been spending ages trying to get all the axolotls the cheat-free way and have had no luck.

The List of All Axolotls You Can Find

I’ve talked about ways on how to get axolotls. Now you’ll probably want to know what axolotls to look out for. There are 15 altogether, with different names, colors, and rarities. Here’s the complete list, listed from common to rare:

Axolotl Name Rarity Description
Copper Axolotl Common An axolotl with copper and brown colored body.
Gold Axolotl Common Golden iridescence and light colored speckles give it a beautiful hue.
Green Axolotl Common A natural green color helps it blend in to the weeds and lake bed.
Lavender Axolotl Common A lovely shade of purple with Dalmatian-like spots.
Pink Axolotl Common A light colored morph of the typical axolotl colors, also known as leucistic.
Wild Copper Axolotl Common An axolotl with a range of colored speckling that helps camouflage it.
Albino Axolotl Uncommon A white and translucent skin from the absence of melanin gives it a ghostly cute appearance.
Blue Axolotl Uncommon An atypical color for axolotls, its azure hue reflects the skies above the lakes they reside in.
Gold Firefly Axolotl Uncommon A result of grafting embryos together, this ‘firefly’ type has a golden body and copper-brown tail. Other axolotls probably think it is lazy at washing and never makes it to the tail.
Pink Chimera Axolotl Uncommon This split “chimera” look of two colors happens when two eggs merge naturally. Almost like a chocolate and vanilla ice cream coming together for a tasty swirl cone. Don’t lick this though…
Pink Firefly Axolotl Uncommon This “firefly” axolotl is the result of joining embryos, creating a different colored body and tail. Do you think it forgets and scares itself when it sees its own tail?
Black Melanoid Axolotl Rare This axolotl has one of the darkest complexions found and has little to no iridescent coloration.
Blue Fluorescent Axolotl Rare This bold and blue axolotl is the result of fluorescent proteins introduced to their genome in a lab. Other axolotls use it as a reading light.
Gold Fluorescent Axolotl Rare This glowing axolotl is the result of humans adding fluorescent proteins to the genome. Between this and the golden skin it has taken ‘glow up’ to new heights!
Green Chimera Axolotl Rare No, it isn’t half-done applying make-up. This natural wonder results from two developing eggs fusing.

Reward for Completing the Axolotl Collection

So, what happens when you find all 15 axolotls in The Sims 4? There’s no cash prize, but you do get a little something. First off, as soon as you get that last fifteenth axolotl in your collection, you get a notification congratulating you. Also, you’ll receive a special plaque for all your hard work from looking in logs and breeding, and spending all that time waiting to get all of them!

That more-or-less concludes this guide to finding all axolotls in The Sims 4 Lovestruck. Remember not to give up if it seems you’ll never get them all. I almost did and then out of the blue I finally got my first rare axolotl from looking in the log. I only had the one log to look in as well! But this does prove that with patience and persistence, your axolotl collection will get completed…. eventually.
