The Sims 4: How to Have Triplets (Triple Play Trophy/Achievement)

If you want to have triplets with your Sim in The Sims 4 and get the Triple Play Trophy/Achievement, this guide is for you. This task can be quite difficult when you don't know how to approach it, but it can be very simple depending on which method you choose to achieve this!

The Sims 4 How to Have Triplets (Triple Play Trophy/Achievement)

The base game of The Sims 4 was recently released for free on all consoles and the player base quickly raised in numbers thanks to that. It’s no news to anyone that The Sims 4 is a very fun and addictive game that allows you to have stuff that you can’t manage to get in real life like a house, a stable job, and even twins or triplets!

The game’s packed with a very entertaining achievement set that makes you explore different aspects of the game. In fact, one of those achievements encourages you to give birth to triplets. That’s right, that’s completely possible. You will usually just give birth to a single child and on rare occasions, you can even have multiple children at once.

How to Have Triplets in The Sims 4

In very specific circumstances (in fact, in only 1% of cases), your Sim can give birth to triplets. This is very rare and hard to get. It requires a lot of luck because most people’s Sims only give birth to one child at a time. That’s why today I’m going to show you the three possible methods to have triplets in The Sims 4 in a much faster way!

These methods will also give you the “Triple Play” Trophy/Achievement if you manage to pull it off. Keep in mind that (the majority of times) using cheats will disable trophies and achievements. So we’re skipping any methods to have triplets in The Sims 4 that could void the achievement.

The “Legit” Method

This method is mostly recommended for people that want to have triplets in The Sims 4 with a specific Sim of their own and don’t want to spend any money on the game’s expansion packs (which are quite fun too, but it could hurt your wallet).

Well, there’s no cute way to say this: This method is a huge pain in the back. It’s probably the only possible way to make your selected Sim give birth to triplets without having to spend money on the game’s DLCs, so you’ll have to do this whole process numerous amount of times if you’re willing to.

Step 1: Start a New World Without Cheats

You can skip this step if you already have a world with the Sim which you want to have triplets and have never used cheats in it.

Also, you want to have a Sim that can get pregnant. Otherwise, you won’t be able to do this for obvious reasons. You will also need a Sim that can get the aforementioned Sim pregnant, so make sure they’re both attracted to each other’s gender. If the second Sim is in your household too, you will have an easier time romancing them.

You can give your Sims the Romantic and Family-Oriented traits too if you wish to do so. This should also help with the romancing part of the process.

Step 2: Give Both Sims the Fertile Trait

After creating your Sims, you can give them the Fertile trait. This will slightly increase their chances to have twins or triplets if they go for a baby. You can give the Fertile trait to them by entering a cheat code. This is one of the few cheat codes that don’t disable any trophies or achievements, hence why this cheat is permitted for this method.

First, you have to select the Sim which you want to give the Fertile trait, and then open the command bar. The process to open the command bar varies depending on which platform you’re using to play the game:

  • PC: Hold CTRL and Shift, then press C.
  • Mac: Hold Command and Shift, then press C.
  • PS4 & PS5: Hold L1, L2, R1, and R2 at the same time.
  • Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S: Hold LB, LT, RB, and RT at the same time.

After opening the command bar, simply introduce this cheat: “traits.equip_trait Fertile”. Do this process with both Sims before jumping to the next step.

Step 3: Romance Both Sims to the Maximum

Now, you want to befriend these two Sims by making them positively interact with each other. Then, you want to romance them and completely fill the romance bar. This part will be easier if you gave them similar traits that are obviously positive.

Once love has completely flourished between your Sims, you can move on to the next step.

Step 4: Make a Manual Save

Once you have everything set for your Sims to go for a baby, make a manual save. Make sure to not accidentally overwrite this save, because you will eventually need to go back to this part to retry the whole thing.

Step 5: Go for a Baby and Wait for Your Sim to Give Birth

Now it’s time to Woo-Hoo. Make sure to choose the “Try for Baby” option when you click on your character’s bed.

After your Sims are done with it, now comes the decisive part of the process. Your Sim should take 3 in-game days to give birth, which translates to something around 2 hours in real life. If your Sim does not have triplets after giving birth, jump to the next and “final step”.

Make sure to click on the Try for Baby option instead of just Woo-hoo.

Step 6: Load Your Manual Save and Repeat Step 5

Yeah, that’s basically it. Load the save you made in Step 4, make your Sims go for a baby again, and if your Sim does not give birth to triplets at the end of Step 5… You will have to repeat this over and over until your Sim finally manages to give birth to triplets.

The reason why this process is so tedious is that the amount of children your Sims are going to have is determined at the moment of the baby’s conception. So if you try to save the game just before giving birth you will just waste your time, your Sim will give birth to the same baby over and over in that save no matter what you do.

I’m not going to lie to you, this will probably take roughly around 50 tries. The odds of giving birth to triplets are very low (around 2% when using the Fertile trait). So you might want to consider using the next method on the list if you really want to have triplets with your beloved Sim after all but still get that shiny trophy in the process.

If you use this method, you're going to be playing as a pregnant Sim for a long while.

The “Pay to Win” Method

This method is recommended for people that want to have triplets in The Sims 4 with a specific Sim of their own and are willing to spend some money on an expansion pack that will help them achieve this in a much faster way.

This method is essentially the same as the previous one, but in this case, we’ll have the help of an additional trait that comes with the City Living Expansion Pack.

Step 1: Buy the City Living Expansion Pack and Install it

The City Living Expansion Pack introduced lot traits for the first time in the game. Lot traits can alter certain elements of a house, like the sensations Sims feel when they’re inside it for example.

This Expansion Pack also comes with a lot trait that can significantly increase the odds of having twins or triplets when going for a baby. This pack is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Install the pack on your corresponding platform before jumping to the next step.

Step 2: Apply the “On Ley Line” Lot Trait

If you don’t have a world to do this yet, it’s time to create one. You can use an existing one too if you already have one. Then again, make sure you haven’t used any cheats in this particular world if you don’t want to miss the trophy/achievement.

In any case, you must simply apply the On Ley Line trait to your desired lot. This can be done by entering Build Mode on your current household and then clicking the house icon on the top left corner of the screen.

Step 3: Follow the Steps Explained in The Legit Method

Simply read the previous method explained in this guide and do everything there from Step 1 onwards. The only difference is that you’re going to be using the On Ley Lines lot trait, which will increase your chances to give birth to triplets to at least 9%.

This method will significantly reduce the grind of the first method and allow you to get the trophy in only 15 tries at most, which is a lot less compared to the default odds of success without the use of this particular expansion pack. If you’re interested in this pack’s contents and need to make up your mind before buying it, below you have a short trailer.

The Easy Method

This method is recommended for people that only want to have triplets in The Sims 4 to get that Triple Play Trophy/Achievement however it takes. Screw the preparation and waste money on it, you just want that invaluable achievement!

This is actually the simplest and easiest possible way to approach this goal. However, you won’t be able to pull this off with your beloved Sims that were created by your own hand. You won’t even have to do the fun Woo-hoo part of the pregnancy, and the pregnancy will be almost fully advanced without having to do anything. You practically will just have to give birth and that’s it, so needless to say it won’t feel very rewarding.

However, you will need an internet connection in order to do this simple method. You will also need to have the game updated to its latest version. This method has been working for a few years already, so it’s highly unlikely to get patched. In any case, it’s better to do it as soon as you can if you’re just going for the achievement, this process takes a few minutes at most anyway.

Step 1: Access the Gallery

The Gallery can be accessed from the main menu. Here you can find the Sims, buildings, households, and pretty much anything the other players have uploaded to the game’s servers. You can download these creations into your own game and play with them! If you have a quick mind, you probably already have an idea of the rest of the steps of this method.

You can access the Gallery from the main menu.

Step 2: Type “Triple Play” in the Seach Bar

You preferably want to do this after switching to the “Hashtag” option in the search bar. Here you will find a few pregnant Sims created by the community that are waiting to give birth to triplets!

Here you can choose any pregnant Sim of your preference.

Step 3: Select a Pregnant Sim and Download it to Your Library

I personally recommend the Sim called “Debra” by user Rezzua. I can confirm this one gives birth to triplets and awards you with the trophy. You can choose any Sim of your preference though, as long as the description and hashtags of that Sim indicate that is pregnant with triplets.

You can add the Sim to your library by clicking on the bottom left part of the window that pops up.

Step 4: Start a New Game With the Downloaded Sim

At this point you can create a new world with the downloaded Sim:

  • From the main menu, select “New Game”.
  • In the Sim creation screen, select “Gallery” (the lightbulb icon with a heart inside it).
  • Select the pregnant Sim you just downloaded and choose “Replace” when the game asks you if you want to merge households.
  • Click on “Play” on the bottom right part of the screen.
  • Select any world and lot of your choice to move the pregnant Sim in. It doesn’t matter if it’s a plain lot without any buildings, you won’t need it.

Once the Sim spawns in their new lot, you can move to the next step.

Step 5: Fast Forward Using the Ultra Speed Option

At this point, you just want to wait for the Sim to give birth. It shouldn’t take too long. The Sim I used was already in her 2nd trimester of pregnancy and almost in the 3rd one.

She should take around 10 minutes to give birth if you use the Ultra Speed option on the bottom part of the screen, so feel free to ignore the Sim’s needs during this time.

Fast forward using Ultra Speed and now all we have to do is wait!

Step 6: Enjoy Your New Achievement!

All you have to do now is wait for the Sim to give birth since this method has a 100% success rate. You will need to approach a bassinet for the Sim to give birth though, but you will automatically be granted one anyway so all you have to do is wait for it to arrive and then approach it. Once you’re done naming the three babies, the trophy will be unlocked! Trophy hunting was never so easy!

And just like that, now you have triplets in The Sims 4!

That was my guide to successfully have triplets and get the Triple Play Trophy/Achievement in The Sims 4. The game is available for free on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Now all you have to do is go for that achievement and have fun raising the three children! Because… you’re gonna do it, right?
