The Sims 4 How to Complete the Seeker of Secrets Aspiration

Here's a complete walkthrough of the Seeker of Secrets aspiration from The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack. This is the perfect aspiration for those Nosy Sims who like to pry into other Sims' lives.

The Sims 4 How to Complete the Seeker of Secrets Aspiration

With The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack, there are four new aspirations added to the game. One of them is called Seeker of Secrets, which is a Deviance aspiration, based around your Sim getting up to mischief. There’s also a new trait with this pack that is made for this aspiration: Nosy. Nosy Sims love to pry in other Sims’ business, and that’s exactly what this aspiration gets you doing. This is probably one of the easier aspirations to complete that comes with For Rent, but if you do find yourself getting stuck and want a helping hand, that’s what this guide is for.

Things to Note About the Seeker of Secrets Aspiration

This aspiration is generally not that difficult to complete. However, it should be noted that it’ll be easier to do if it’s assigned to a Sim with the Nosy trait. These Sims like to poke their noses into other Sims’ business, so naturally this is the ideal aspiration for them. Nosy Sims typically have Wants related to learning secrets, which earns them Satisfaction Points that can be used in the Rewards Store. They also have access to unique interactions that can help them learn secrets, such as Pry for Secrets and Spy on Sim. It is possible, however, to complete the Seeker of Secrets aspiration without the Nosy trait, so don’t think this aspiration is exclusive to these Sims.

There’s one other thing to address: you do not need to be living in a Residential Rental or in Tomarang to complete the Seeker of Secrets aspiration. Your Sim can live anywhere in any Lot Type in any world.

On an additional note, since you are assigning your Sim a Deviance-type aspiration, you gain a bonus trait: Dastardly. This makes Mean interactions more likely to be successful for your Sim, which is useful if your Sim wants to make enemies easily.

With that said, let’s get right on with the Seeker of Secrets aspiration guide!

Seeker of Secrets Aspiration Guide

The Seeker of Secrets aspiration has 3 milestone tiers, each with 3 tasks, meaning that altogether there are 9 tasks to complete. Altogether, it shouldn’t take too long to complete all tasks and the aspiration as a whole.

Milestone 1: Nosy Novice

Your Nosy Sim has to start somewhere, at the bottom in this case. These first set of tasks gets your Sim started, giving you an idea of the whole process of being nosy in For Rent.

Task 1: Discover Secrets

The Seeker of Secrets aspiration is all about secrets, so it makes sense that this first task is about finding secrets to begin with. This task introduces the gameplay of discovering secrets in For Rent, and there are lots of ways you can go about doing this. This involves your Sim snooping around digging for dirt. There are a few things you can do, including gossiping with other Sims. If your Sim has the Nosy trait, they can spy on other Sims or Pry for Secrets. These will ensure that your Sims learn some juicy secrets. You must discover 3 secrets in order to fulfil this task.

There is one thing I would recommend you do for this particular task though. The second task in the Seeker of Secrets’ first milestone is to Snoop for Secrets, which involves breaking into another Sim’s property and searching the place to get some dirt on them. Snooping on properties also counts towards discovering secrets, so you can essentially complete this task and the second one by getting into a Sim’s home while they’re out. Learn more about this activity in the instructions for the next task.

The other activity I suggest you do for this task is eavesdropping. This is a requirement for completing the third task, and at the same time fulfils this task. You can learn more about Eavesdropping in the information for the third task.

You'll get notified when your Sim discovers a new secret. Make a note of the Sim whose secret it is!

Task 2: Snoop for Secrets

One of the activities related to being a Nosy Sim is snooping. This particular activity involves breaking into other Sims’ houses. This is something you’ve never been able to do in The Sims 4 until now. You could move Sims into houses, or drop round other Sims’ homes to visit, but never could you actually break in. This is quite a devious thing you can do, but this is a Deviance aspiration, and the things your Sims will do aren’t exactly ethical. Also, note that with breaking in, this isn’t the same as stealing, as you don’t actually take anything from the house (unless your Sim is a Kleptomaniac or the Sharing Is Caring community action has been voted in). With the Breaking In interaction, all your Sims can do is snoop around another Sims’ property while they’re out and search through their things. The only things your Sim takes away are some new secrets.

Here’s how to Break In to a property. First off, it doesn’t have to be a Residential Rental. It can be any kind of residential property, whether it be a Residential Lot, Apartment Lot, or Residential Rental Unit. So long as it’s classed as someone’s “home”, you can Break In to it. You must make sure that a Sim is actually living there first. You can’t break into and search a Lot that isn’t currently lived in. It’s pretty easy to find out which Lots have Sims living in them. Just click on the Lot and the option Break In should be there, along with the usual options such as Visit. You can also use the Travel option to open up the world map and see which Lots have Sims living in them.

Aside from the usual Visit and Move In Household options, selecting an occupied home should bring up the Break In option.

Aside from the usual Visit and Move In Household options, selecting an occupied home should bring up the Break In option.

Once you’ve found a Lot, select the Break In option and your Sim will load onto that Lot. This action triggers an “event”. As soon as you initiate a Break In by traveling to the Lot, the Breaking and Entering event will begin. This gives you several hours to get into the Lot and look around, and the timer will eventually run out. You can choose to end the Break In early if you’ve had enough.

Breaking into a home is a timed event. Just hope that no one arrives home when your Sim is there!

Breaking into a home is a timed event. Just hope that no one arrives home when your Sim is there!

It’s important to note that the countdown of the Break In begins as soon as you arrive at the Lot, not after you’ve actually broken into the Sims’ home. This is because your Sim actually has to get into the property first, and they can’t do this when someone is inside! That’s why it’s important to get straight on with the Break In interaction, so you’ve got more time to search the Lot.

As soon as you arrive at the Lot and the Breaking and Entering event begins, Break In via the door. Your Sim will hack at the door with a crowbar to get it open, which will create a lot of dust. After a few seconds, you’ll know if your Sim was successful or not. The Break In interaction doesn’t always work. You’ll know if your Sim falls backwards and you get a pop-up message. You can try again right away and hopefully be more successful. If you really cannot penetrate the door, try a different one, or you may have to give up on the Breaking and Entering altogether and try another Lot.

Once at the Lot, use the Break In interaction on the door.

Once at the Lot, use the Break In interaction on the door.

If you do manage to get through the door, you now have access to the Lot. You can go into every room and interact with every object. However, during Breaking and Entering, some objects have a unique interaction: Snoop. Your Sim will search the chosen object to find juicy secrets about the Sims who live at the property. Only certain objects have the Snoop option available, and these are: bookshelves, drawers, wardrobes, beds, and the mailbox. Every Snoop interaction takes a few moments, but generally doesn’t take long, and soon, your Sim should hopefully get some new gossip. You’re not always guaranteed results, so look everywhere in the home.

Inside a Sim's Lot, use the Snoop interaction on objects such as beds, bookcases, drawers, and mailboxes to find secrets.

The Breaking and Entering event ends once the timer runs out, or you choose to end it early. Once the event ends, your Sim will be transported back to their own home.

For this specific task of the Seeker of Secrets aspiration, you need to use the Snoop interaction a total of 10 times. The Snoop interaction has to be successful in order to count towards the task tally. This is quite a big number, so I would strongly recommend that you find yourself a big house to search, with plenty of objects you can Snoop with.

Task 3: Eavesdrop on Sims

It’s now time to experience a new way of learning secrets: Eavesdropping. There are two ways to eavesdrop in The Sims 4 For Rent. One is by listening into other Sims’ conversations, the other is by listening at another Sims’ door.

The first way to Eavesdrop is by listening in on conversations. This is a simple enough interaction, but it’s about looking out for the right opportunity. Ideally, go out somewhere that’s normally busy, so you’ll have a better chance of finding someone to listen in on. It’s also best to target a Sim your Sim has already been introduced to, as you have all the social options available. When you spot at least two Sims deep in conversation, select one of them, and then under the Friendly > Gossip menu, you should see Eavesdrop. Choosing this has your Sim listening in from a short distance.

The Eavesdrop option on Sims can be found by looking under Friendly and then Gossip.

The Eavesdrop at Door interaction isn’t too difficult to carry out, but there are a few things you need in place in order to do it. Obviously, you need to make sure a Sim actually lives at the property first. Second, you need to make sure at least one of the occupants is at home.

To Eavesdrop at a door, you first need to travel to the Lot. Even if you’re in the same neighborhood as the Lot, you need the game to load it up so you can properly interact with it. With the property loaded up, providing that a Sim is at home, you can then Eavesdrop at Door. This interaction is available on any door accessible to the interior of the Lot, appearing alongside the Knock on Door interaction.

If a Sim is at home, you can use the Eavesdrop option on their door.

If a Sim is at home, you can use the Eavesdrop option on their door.

To complete this task, you need to Eavesdrop on 5 different occasions. Residential Rentals and Apartments are good places to complete this task, as they have multiple units on one Lot you can Eavesdrop on. Alternatively, if you want to listen in on conversations instead, just go somewhere that’s usually very busy, such as a nightclub or other community lot. You can also organize a big social event and invite as many Sims as possible. There should be lots of gossip going on then.

Milestone 2: Superior Pryer

By now, you’ve got a good taste of what it’s like to pry into other Sims’ lives. Now it’s time to take it up a notch. What exactly do you do with those secrets you discover? These next set of tasks in the Seeker of Secrets aspiration will demonstrate what you can do with secrets.

Task 1: Confront a Sim With a Secret

So, you’ve discovered a secret about another Sim. Now what? One thing you can do is Confront About Secret to that Sim. Unlocking and accessing this interaction is easy. You just learn a secret by whatever means from another Sim, then use the Confront About Secret interaction on them (found under the Friendly > Gossip menu).

You can Eavesdrop at a door and then go in and confront the Sim you were listening in on. You can do the same thing with eavesdropping on a Sims’ conversation. You can Snoop for secrets as well, but you then have to seek out the Sims who secrets you know, so this may take longer. If you have the Nosy trait, just use Pry for Secrets or Spy on Sim to get some secrets and confront a Sim.

For this task, you have to confront a Sim with a secret on 3 occasions.

After discovering a secret, use Confront a Secret on a Sim whose secret you have learned about.

Task 2: Keep a Secret

This task follows up from the first task of the second tier of Seeker of Secrets. Once you’ve confronted a Sim about their secret, there are two things you can do. Actually, there’s three things. For one, you can choose to just leave it… or, you can either Keep a Secret, or Blackmail the Sim. The Blackmail option is for a task in tier 3 of this aspiration, so keep that in mind. For this task though, you need to use Keep a Secret. This interaction can be found under Friendly > Gossip.

To complete this task, learn a secret, then confront a Sim about their secret, and then use the Keep a Secret interaction. You only need to do this once.

The Keep Secret option appears after confronting a Sim about their secret.

Task 3: Discover Secrets by Eavesdropping

You learned to Eavesdrop earlier at the beginning of the Seeker of Secrets aspiration, and now you must do it again, twice for this task. While working on this task, make sure that whenever you Eavesdrop, your Sim learns a secret. The Aspiration Panel will keep track of your progress.

Milestone 3: Snooper Extraordinaire

By this stage, your Sim should be pretty expert at snooping for secrets. There’s just a final set of tasks to complete before you can complete the Seeker of Secrets aspiration and claim your reward. It should be noted that for these three final tasks, you only have to do each one once, instead of repeating the activity multiple times to fulfil the task.

Task 1: Break Into a Home

By now, you’ve probably already broken into a house or two at the very least. Just do it once more to fulfil this task.

Task 2: Find a Tiger Inspector Badge

This task is a little different to all the other Seeker of Secrets activities, but it is related to the theme of the aspiration, sneaking around and learning secrets. But where in the world do you get a Tiger Inspector Badge? Well, the world of Tomarang, actually! More specifically, you get this from the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary, situated in the Koh Sahpa neighborhood. If you’ve never visited the sanctuary before or don’t even know what it is, look for a stone temple-like building across the river (The Screaming Gecko lounge is near the bridge that takes you to the sanctuary).

You’ve found the Tiger Sanctuary, now what? There’s something specific you need to do to get the badge. There are a few things you can do at the sanctuary, including going for a tour, adopting a tiger, and donating money. What you need to do though to complete this particular task is Sneak Into the Sanctuary. This interaction on the sanctuary is only available after dark in The Sims 4, so wait until night falls in the game before making the trip to the sanctuary. When you interact with the sanctuary, this interaction will be available. Send your Sim in, and hopefully they’ll come out with a Tiger Inspector Badge. Not only does this fulfil this task, but having this badge is useful for breaking into Lots.

The Tiger Inspector Badge appears in your Sim's inventory after getting one from the Tiger Sanctuary.

Task 3: Blackmail a Sim

The final task of the Seeker of Secrets aspiration involves your Sim blackmailing another Sim. It’s not conceived as a positive interaction, but hey, don’t forget that this is a Deviance aspiration, meaning your Sim has to get up to no good at times. By blackmailing another Sim, you only threaten to reveal their secret if they don’t cough up some Simoleans, and the only real harm in this game is a hit on the relationship between the two Sims. It’s therefore recommended that you only do this with a Sim you are either already unfriendly with or you don’t want to jeopardize a friendship.

Alongside keeping a secret, Sims with confronted secrets can be blackmailed.

Alongside keeping a secret, Sims with confronted secrets can be blackmailed.

To Blackmail a Sim, you have to essentially follow the same steps as the Keep a Secret process, except you threaten to expose the secret rather than promise to keep it. First, discover a secret about another Sim by any means you wish. Then, confront any Sim you wish about their secret. The final step is to Blackmail them. This only appears after your Sim uses Confront About Sim with the target Sim. The Blackmail interaction appears under Mean interactions, under Malicious. When used on another Sim, they will grudgingly hand some money over, and this task will be completed.

Your Sim gains money from blackmailing another Sim, but it takes a hit on their relationship.

Rewards for Completing the Seeker of Secrets Aspiration

You’ve done all the tasks for the Seeker of Secrets aspiration. Congratulations! The question now is: what do you gain from all this snooping around? As with any completed aspiration, your Sim earns a unique reward trait: Pry of the Tiger. Your sneaky Sim will now have more success when sorting through junk mail at mailboxes. Also, if they get caught Breaking In to a house, they’ll get away with it thanks to their trusty Tiger Inspector Badge. That’s really it, to be honest. Still, it’s an interesting aspiration to work on, and it gives Nosy Sims in particular something to do in relation to their trait.
