The Sims 4 How to Complete the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Aspiration

The Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration in The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack is a great way to get to know the world of Tomarang, and this guide will take you through all the steps to complete it.

The Sims 4 How to Complete the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Aspiration

The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack brings 4 new aspirations into the game. One focuses on being a Property Owner, while another explores life as a tenant in a Residential Rental. The third aspiration is perfect for Nosy Sims. The fourth and final aspiration gets your Sims exploring the new world of Tomarang, and this is the aspiration that this guide covers. The Sims 4‘s Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration is ideal for Tomarang residents, but is possible to complete as a visiting Sim. It’s also one of the easier aspirations of the four to fulfil. It’s worth doing if you want to see everything Tomarang has to offer, and will make your Sims feel more at home there.

Fount of Tomarani Knowledge is a Location based aspiration, focused on Tomarang’s unique world and culture. There are 12 tasks altogether to complete, with 3 levels (called milestones) with four tasks each. As a whole, this aspiration shouldn’t take long to complete. Plus, as with all aspirations in The Sims 4, for completing Fount of Tomarani Knowledge, you’ll get rewarded with a bonus trait for your efforts.

For selecting this aspiration, your Sim gains the Home Turf trait, which you get with any Location based aspiration. The Home Turf trait makes your Sim Happy whenever they are in their home neighborhood. For example, if they reside in Tomarang, they’ll be in a Happy mood just from being there.

The Sims 4 For Rent Expansion Pack is available on PC via Steam and EA App, Mac via Origin, PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox One | Xbox Series X / S, and Epic Games Store.

An Important Note Before You Begin This Aspiration

The Fount of Tomarani Knowledge is generally the easiest of the four The Sims 4 For Rent aspirations to complete (at least in my opinion). However, there is one thing you do need to be aware of, and it affects being able to successfully complete this aspiration. One of the tasks requires you to buy a shirt from the Night Market in Tomarang. This is easy, right? Yes, it is – but there’s a hitch. If you buy both Night Market shirts before you’re on Milestone 2 of this aspiration, you won’t be able to fulfil that particular task. The game doesn’t register that you’ve already bought at least one of the shirts, and you have to do it while the Milestone is active to mark the task as completed. To make things worse, the two shirts are tied to the household, so it unlocks for every member, and of course your Sim with the aspiration has to buy the shirt. This means that you will be unable to progress to the next level of the aspiration.

If this happens to you in the game, don’t panic. There are much worse things that can happen in your saved game of The Sims 4. If you get stuck at this task of the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration, there are two things you can do. First, you can move your Sim with the Tomarani Knowledge aspiration out of their current household and into a new one. This resets the Night Market clothes being available.

The second option is to use cheats, and a simple one at that. This is a cheat tied to the base game of The Sims 4. (For everything you need to know about cheats, see our The Sims 4 base game cheats guide.) First, enter “testingcheats true” to enable cheats in the game, then input “aspirations.complete_current_milestone”. What this cheat does is bump your Sim up into the next aspiration milestone, regardless of whether they’ve completed all – or any – of the tasks in that milestone. It’s very handy in situations such as this, when you get stuck because of a bug in the game.

If you get stuck on one particular task, don't be afraid to use cheats to bypass it.

If you get stuck on one particular task, don’t be afraid to use cheats to bypass it.

To sum up, if you ever encounter this issue and don’t want your Sim to move out, I would recommend using the aspiration cheat.

With that said and done, let’s walk through the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration in The Sims 4!

Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Milestone 1: Regional Rookie

Starting at the bottom of The Sims 4‘s Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration, these series of tasks gets your Sim going in Tomarang, giving them a taster of their culture and way of life.

Task 1: Leave Fruit or Incense at a Spirit House

The Spirit House is an object exclusive to The Sims 4 For Rent, and for the first task for the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge, you are required to leave an offering. The Spirit House can be found on some Lots around Tomarang, but you can also buy one for 250 Simoleans. If you don’t want to purchase one, at least two can be found on different Lots in Tomarang: Sungai Point and the Bun Ma’s house, both in the Koh Sahpa neighborhood. Once you either locate or buy a Spirit House, you can leave an offering by interacting with it. Whether you decide to leave fruit or incense is up to you. You only need to do this once to complete this task.

Using a Spirit House couldn't be easier. If you can't find one in Tomarang, simply buy your own.

Task 2: Use Tomarani Introduction

In The Sims 4, there are lots of ways that Sims can introduce themselves to others, using different greetings. Sims can be Friendly, Funny, Flirty, or Mean. However, For Rent introduces a new way to greet new Sims: Tomarani Introduction. Your Sim will put their hands together and bow their head during this interaction.

This is a relatively easy task. You just need to get your Sim to greet 3 strangers to fulfil this task – but you must use Tomarani Introduction each time.

There's a special greeting tied to Tomarang, but any Sim in any world can use it.

Task 3: Meet a Sim With the Child of the Village Personality

This task is actually quite tricky for a few reasons. First, you have to introduce yourself to a Sim with a Child of the Village trait. This is one of the 5 new traits that comes with For Rent. The main reason this task is difficult is that you don’t know what traits Sims have until after you’ve introduced yourself. This means you have no way of knowing which Sims have this trait to complete this task.

The best thing to do is to find out beforehand which Sims in Tomarang have the Child of the Village trait. Some of the pre-made Tomarang residents are assigned this trait, including Nin Bun Ma and Vanesha Cahyaputri (see the world guide for more information on Tomarang’s residents). If you haven’t met these Sims yet, go and do so.

Your other option is to greet every townie NPC Sim you meet, especially in Tomarang. You might get lucky and meet one with the Child of the Village trait. Another idea, if you’re really struggling, is to create a Sim with this trait, move them in somewhere, and then get your aspiration Sim to meet them. Thankfully, you only need to do this task once, so you only need to find one Sim with Child of the Village as opposed to 3 or more.

Some pre-made characters such as Nin Bun Ma carry the Child of the Village trait.

Task 4: Use a Squat Toilet

This fourth and final task in the first milestone of Fount of Tomarani Knowledge requires you to repeat it 3 times. It is very simple: use a squat toilet 3 times.

While toilets obviously aren’t new to The Sims 4For Rent introduces a new type of toilet: the squat toilet. This functions exactly like any other toilet in the game. The only main difference is that your Sims squat down to use them instead of standing up or sitting down.

Squat toilets can be found on properties around Tomarang, or you can buy one if you don’t own one yet. There are two squat toilets available: the BlandCo Diddly Squat Toilet for 250 Simoleans, or The Gold Standard Squat Toilet – by PiscesPlumb for 370 Simoleans. There’s no difference function-wise or benefit-wise between the two. The only difference is the price and appearance.

When you find or buy a squat toilet, use it 3 times to complete this task.

Squat toilets can be found on Tomarang Lots, or you can buy one.

Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Milestone 2: Culinary Connoisseur

You’ve managed to complete the first set of tasks for Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration in The Sims 4. You’re well on your way to living the Tomarani life! These next bunch of tasks revolves around cooking Tomarani style, plus visiting the Night Market.

Task 1: Cook Tomarani Cuisine

As part of your Sim exploring Tomarang and its culture, this aspiration wants you to cook up 3 Tomarani-themed dishes. You can make these with a stove, pressure cooker, and grill. But how do you know which dishes are Tomarani? To help you out, here’s a list of recipes to look out for:

  • Banh Cuon
  • Banh Xeo
  • Bibingka
  • Burmese Samosa Soup
  • Halo-Halo
  • Khao Niao Mamuang
  • Malaysian Satay
  • Nasi Lemak
  • Pancit Bihon
  • Steamed Rice
  • Tofu Pad Thai

There’s quite a generous list here, so it’ll be hard for you to find things to cook.

This task is generally very easy, but here are some extra tips. When cooking these dishes, use the pressure cooker at least twice to make them. These are a requirement for Task 4 of this aspiration’s milestone, so you might as well do both at the same time. Also, if the dishes come out as Poor Quality (which they most likely will if your Sim is a low level cook), don’t worry about eating them. You don’t want to make your Sim sick. You only need to cook the 3 dishes to complete this task, not eat them as well, so if they come out bad, just throw them away.

For the first task of the second aspiration level, I suggest using the pressure cooker to also fulfil the fourth task.

For the first task of the second aspiration level, I suggest using the pressure cooker to also fulfil the fourth task.

Task 2: Buy a Shirt From the Night Market

Hopefully at this stage, you haven’t yet bought any shirts from the Night Market. If you have, refer to the section above where I discuss this particular task and what you should do.

The Night Market is one of Tomarang’s highlights, and is located in the Morensong district. The Night Market is pretty hard to miss with its rows of stalls and colorful canopies. There are lots of stalls, but only 4 of these are interactive. 3 of them are food and drinks stalls, but the fourth is a unique stall. Here, you can buy wares such as tassels, marbles, and produce. At this same stall, you can also purchase two unique tops: a Striped Shirt and a Layered Halter. To complete this second task, buy one of these tops.

Since it is a Night Market, the stalls are only open from 6pm until 2am, so don’t waste your trip going over outside these times.

If you’re still at the market, don’t leave yet! The very next task is also located at the Night Market.

At this Night Market stall, you can buy goods and clothes.

Task 3: Buy Food at the Night Market

We’re not quite done at the Night Market yet. This next task asks you to buy food at the market, 3 times, to be exact. When I say “food”, I don’t mean produce such as harvestables. I’m referring to meals that your Sim can buy and eat from the market stalls. 3 of these stalls sell food and drink, so buy 3 meals and you’re done.

Here’s an important tip for Tasks 2 and 3 combined: do these two tasks at the Night Market last and do the cooking tasks first. The reason for this is that the first task of the next milestone also requires you to travel to the Night Market. By doing these two tasks after the cooking tasks, you’ll complete this tier, then unlock the third and final Night Market task while you’re still there (and hopefully while it’s still open!)

There's lots of food to eat at the Night Market stalls.

Task 4: Prepare a Recipe Using a Pressure Cooker

This fourth task ties in nicely with the first task, which is to cook 3 Tomarani meals. You can make Tomarani meals using the new Pressure Cooker kitchen appliance. This is a small appliance like the microwave, but it functions differently to most appliances. While cooking up 2 meals with the pressure cooker is straightforward enough, here’s a quick tutorial on how the pressure cooker works.

If you don’t have one yet, buy the Grace Under Pressure Cooker for 250 Simoleans in Buy Mode (located under Kitchen Appliances). It has to be placed on a kitchen counter. In order to prep meals with the pressure cooker, you need to have at least one counter free.

With the pressure cooker, make sure there's a counter available so your Sim can prep ingredients.

With the pressure cooker, make sure there’s a counter available so your Sim can prep ingredients.

Once you have one, it’s time to start cooking! Select the pressure cooker and choose a dish to make, any you like. Your Sim will retrieve the ingredients from the refrigerator, place them on a free counter, and start prepping. Once the ingredients are ready, your Sim will tip them into the pressure cooker and set the timer. Unlike the new kitchen appliances that came with The Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack, there’s no way to see how much time is left to cook. You just have to wait. You can see what quality the food will be though by hovering over the cooker. You’ll know it’s ready when you hear a beep and see the light on the cooker change color. With the food now cooked, your Sim must Release Steam in order to serve up their meal.

You must release the steam of the pressure cooker before you can eat anything.

You must release the steam of the pressure cooker before you can eat anything.

With the pressure cooker, newly cooked meals won’t be automatically taken out and served. They’ll remain in the cooker, waiting for Sims to grab a serving. You can put meals away in the refrigerator to preserve them, or if you don’t want to eat what you’ve made (for example, if it’s of poor quality), you can empty the cooker and throw away the meal.

That’s a general summary of how to use For Rent‘s pressure cooker. To sum up this particular task, you just need to make 2 dishes with the pressure cooker. Note that the task states to just “prepare” it rather than “eat”. If you’re unhappy with how the food came out, don’t feel obliged to eat it.

If food from a pressure cooker doesn't cook well, avoid eating it so your Sims don't get sick.

Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Milestone 3: Explorer Extraordinaire

This is the final tier of the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration in The Sims 4. These last set of tasks focuses more on exploration, mainly in the Koh Sahpa neighborhood.

Task 1: Collect Unique Tassels

This is an easy enough task. At the Night Market, go to the same stall where you bought the shirts. Under Purchase Goods, you can find and buy tassels, a collectible unique to Tomarang. These come in different colors. There should be at least 2 available at the stall. You need 3 altogether to complete the task – and they have to be different. You can’t just buy 3 of the same tassel at the stall.

If the Night Market stall doesn’t offer enough tassels to complete the task, there are other places you can look. The aspiration’s in-game hints and tips helpfully points you to the beaches of Koh Sahpa, the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary, and the cave to find more.

Collected tassels can be found in your Sim's inventory.

Collected tassels can be found in your Sim’s inventory.

Task 2: Explore Tomarang’s Cave

The next task takes you away from the Night Market and back to the Koh Sahpa neighborhood. Across the vast waters is a beach, and on this beach, there is a cave – and you can explore it. Cave exploration is not new to The Sims 4. Tomarang’s cave is straightforward enough, providing an off-screen adventure where you can choose your Sim’s next move. My Sims generally tend to get Inspired after exploring the cave, but it depends on the adventure and the outcome. All you have to do to complete this task is explore the cave. There’s nothing specific you need to do, just have a look around and you’re done.

While this task generally is easy to complete, it’s getting started that’s a little difficult. This is because the cave can be hard to locate if you don’t know where you’re looking. The best way I found to easily locate the cave was to go from The Screaming Gecko and travel across the water. Go as far as you can and you should find the cave. It’s on a big beach against a jungle, so it should be easy to spot.

There’s another thing about the cave; it’s quite a way from everything else in Koh Sahpa, or the whole of Tomarang, thinking about it. If you’re happy to do so, you can use a simple cheat to quickly warp to the cave, saving a big swim and hike and lots of precious time running to and from the cave. Make sure cheats are enabled, then travel to the beach, select the ground by shift-clicking, and select Teleport Here. Your Sim will reappear instantly in that spot, saving them a lot of time and hassle.

The cave can be difficult to locate if you're unfamiliar with the place. Look for a big body of water and a beach.

The cave can be difficult to locate if you’re unfamiliar with the place. Look for a big body of water and a beach.

Task 3: Explore the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary

The third task is also a doddle. The Sulea Tiger Sanctuary is located in Koh Sahpa. Near The Screaming Gecko Lounge Lot, there’s a bridge. Across this bridge, you’ll find an old ruinous temple-like building. This is home to the Tiger Sanctuary. You can interact with the Sanctuary and go inside (off-screen).

There are a few things you can do here. You can Explore the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary, which just allows your Sim to have a tour. They’ll most likely get adventure prompts, such as with the cave. This is the activity you need to do to complete this task, and it’s only required once. Also at the Sanctuary, your Sim can donate money. They can even adopt a tiger! Donating money and adopting a tiger will grant your Sim some sweet rewards, including a certificate, poster, and a cute plushie tiger.

One last thing your Sim can do is Sneak Into the Sanctuary. This can only be performed at night, when the Sanctuary is closed. This functions more-or-less like exploring the sanctuary in the day, except your Sim may get some unique encounters. Here, your Sim can obtain a Tiger Inspector Badge, required for completing the Seeker of Secrets aspiration.

There are a few things you can do at the Tiger Sanctuary. For the aspiration, you just need to explore it.

Task 4: View the Statue of Khun Mae and the Tiger

This final task of the whole Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration in The Sims 4 is probably the easiest of the lot. You just need to locate a certain statue in Tomarang and View it. That’s it. It’s also made ridiculously easy by the fact that the statue is situated right beside the Tiger Sanctuary, so if you’ve gone to explore the Sanctuary in the last task, you might as well do this one as well. It’s also a neat way to round off the whole aspiration.

Rewards for Completing Fount of Tomarani Knowledge Aspiration

If you’ve completed all the tasks of The Sims 4‘s Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration, congratulations! You now know a lot more about Tomarang than you did before. You get a reward for all your hard work: a bonus trait for your Sim!

With the Tomarang Expert reward trait, your Sim will have more success with cooking Tomarani-based cuisine, finding tassels, they will get on better with Sims with the Child of the Village trait, and they will have more luck when exploring the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary and Beard Beard Cove cave. It’s a neat little bonus for your Tomarang based Sim. The cooking benefit is especially useful, particularly as most Tomarang meals come out poorly in the pressure cooker at first.

If you’re not quite done with Tomarang and seeing everything it has to offer, there’s more you can do beyond this aspiration. You can visit the Shrine, go swimming in Tomarang’s vast waters in Koh Sahpa, as well as check out the Fish Market. Tomarang is a vibrant, exotic and exciting world, so make the most of it, whether your Sim is a resident or a visitor!
