How to Get Amorphous Material

You can obtain Amorphous Material from various open-world missions, but note that the drop is not guaranteed. Each mission has a percentage chance of dropping the material, indicated in the rewards list.

The missions are:

  • Zone Recon missions
  • Void Intercepts
  • Special Operations
  • Mine Blocking

Amorphous Material comes in different types, identified by their “pattern” number. Each pattern contains specific components used to craft new weapons or descendants.

When opening an Amorphous Material, you’ll receive one of its contained items, though the one you get will be random. For example, an Amorphous Material Pattern 001 always has the same four components. If you need a specific part and don’t get it the first time, you will need to farm the mission that drops that particular Amorphous Material.

You can hover over the Amorphous Material in your inventory and press the F key to bring up the Acquisition info, which tells you where the item came from

How to Use Amorphous Material

In The First Descendant, Amorphous Material needs to be converted into usable resources for research using Reconstructed Devices. These devices become available after specific missions and boss fights. However, not just any Reconstructed Device will work; it must match the pattern of the Amorphous Material.

  1. When you have Amorphous Material in your inventory, access the Consumable menu and check the Material Pattern.
  2. Open the sub-menu “Linked Reconstructed Device Info” to find out which mission or boss you need to defeat to access the correct device.
  3. These missions are typically either Void Fusion Reactors, which unlock after breaking enough of The First Descendant Void Fragments, or Void Intercepts, the major boss fights navigated through the main map screen like the Grave Walker and Stunning Beauty.
  4. After completing these missions, a Reconstructed Device (a green globe in a metal brace) will appear nearby.
  5. Interact with the device to use it once, converting/opening a single piece of compatible Amorphous Material.
  6. The result is randomized, with different blueprints linked to various Material Patterns and different percentages of winning.
