What Is the Dead Bride in The First Descendant?
Before tackling the Dead Bride in The First Descendant, let’s take a look at her background lore, and why she is one of the deadlier Colossi that the humans have fought against, which we will showcase below, courtesy of the Dead Bride’s in-game description:
According to records, the first discovered Dead Bride was a Colossus buried deep within the snow, unearthed directly by humanity. It was speculated that the Dead Bride would remain completely immobilized during the excavation process, but it unexpectedly began moving again, resulting in numerous casualties. This incident led to reports suggesting that Colossi possesses self-restoration capabilities through dormant states and provisions were added to the headquarters’ response manual, emphasizing the need to never let one’s guard down until the Colossus is completely destroyed.
From this passage, we can see that the Dead Bride, initially declared dormant, remains active and inflicts numerous casualties for humanity at that time. Now, after she returns, the Descendants must mount the task of defeating her once and for all through the Void Intercept Boss Battle function.
Dead Bride’s Strengths and Weaknesses
One of the toughest bosses in The First Descendant, the Dead Bride is a formidable opponent with small weak points, high agility, an irritating ultimate, and significant damage output. She can be a major obstacle in your grinding journey to obtain the desired materials or progress to the next stage.
The Dead Bride appears in both Normal and Hard difficulties. The primary differences between these modes are her total health, the damage she deals with, and the chill resistance required. Fire, followed by Electric and Non-Attribute, are the best elements to use against the Dead Bride, and we have curated the entire Element resistances that the Dead Bride has below:
- Fire Attribute: Very Weak
- Electric Attribute: Normal
- Non-Attribute: Normal
- Toxic Attribute: Strong
- Chill Attribute: Very Strong
As you can see, Dead Bride is incredibly resistant to Chill Attribute, since it is her main Attribute during the battle. It is wise to stock up on some Chill Resistance before fighting Dead Bride, though it is not mandatory. Likewise, bringing Fire Attribute Descendants like Lepic will be highly beneficial for fighting Dead Bride, though again, it is not mandatory for you to successfully defeat her.
When it comes to targeting her weak points, precision is key. The Dead Bride’s primary weak points are located on both of her shoulders, chest, and knees. Successfully hitting these areas will deal increased damage, significantly reducing the time it takes to defeat her. However, the fight becomes more challenging when she enters Frenzied mode. During this phase, she will temporarily gain immunity against all damage, and to break this immunity, you need to damage her weak points, which now shift to the two tubes attached to her massive weapon.
Best Descendants Against the Dead Bride
Once you get to understand a little bit about Dead Bride’s background lore and her strengths and weaknesses, it’s time to analyze what Descendants are the best to use when you decide to fight her in The First Descendant. Generally, we will differentiate them into two groups, Offense/DPS and Support Descendants.
Offense/DPS
As the best Fire Attribute character in The First Descendant right now, Lepic is an excellent choice for taking on the Dead Bride. Lepic’s Skill 3: Traction Grenade is particularly useful for dealing with the minion monsters that spawn during the battle, making it easier to focus on the main target. Skill 4: Overkill can be unleashed to inflict significant damage when the Dead Bride is staggered. Correctly timing this attack can shorten the fight, as the staggered state presents a prime opportunity to deal critical damage.
Gley is another powerful option, but she embodies a high-risk, high-reward playstyle. Gley specializes in dealing massive damage to bosses, making her a strong contender against the Dead Bride. However, using Gley effectively requires careful health management. Without proper attention to her health, Gley can be easily defeated or rendered unable to use her abilities. To maximize Gley’s potential, focus on Skill 3: Increased Sensory and Skill 4: Massacre, which can deliver devastating blows when used strategically.
Support
Ajax is a valuable asset in any team composition, thanks to the protective shield he provides. His shield can safeguard the team from the Dead Bride’s relentless projectiles, significantly reducing the damage taken during the fight. Additionally, if a teammate is downed, Ajax can quickly deploy a shield to assist in reviving them, making him an indispensable part of any group facing this boss.
Bunny, while primarily an offensive character, can also be adapted into a supportive role. Her Skill 3: Lightning Emission and Skill 4: Maximum Power offer considerable damage output, making her a viable choice for those looking to deal direct damage. However, for those with a lower investment in Bunny, she shines more as a supporting character. She excels at efficiently clearing the minions that spawn during the battle, allowing the team to focus more on the Dead Bride.
Yujin rounds out the ideal lineup for a comfortable and sustainable boss fight. Yujin’s ability to provide consistent healing is crucial, especially since he ensures your team doesn’t rely on waiting for minion monsters to drop health bars. This continuous healing allows the team to maintain their offensive momentum without worrying about their health, making Yujin an essential component in prolonged encounters.
Best Build for Dead Bride
When battling a boss like the Dead Bride, survivability is paramount. Your primary focus should be ensuring that you can withstand her relentless attacks while maintaining the ability to fire or use your skills consistently against her. The key to this balance lies in proper Module upgrades and proper weapons adequate to fight a Colossi like the Dead Bride.
Descendant Modules
Modules in The First Descendant have two categories, one for the Descendants and the other for the weapons, depending on their Round Type. To prepare against Dead Bride, here are some pointers that you should always keep in mind regarding Descendant Modules:
- Always have both Increased HP and Increased DEF Modules. These are the quintessential Modules that should never leave your Descendant builds, no matter who you are using, both against the Dead Bride or other Colossus. This is because their percentage increase to your stats is so massive and convenient that it outweighs practically most of the other Modules you currently have.
- Try to stock up on some Chill Attribute Resistance. Chill Resistance plays a critical role in this fight, as the Dead Bride’s attacks can significantly slow you down or even freeze you in place, making you an easy target for her. While the game states that you need 1,600 Chill Resistance on Normal difficulty and 7,200 Chill Resistance for Hard difficulty, there is no urgent need to meet these requirements as long as you have enough HP and DEF stats.
- More specifically, you need to have at least 20,000 DEF and 8,000 HP to comfortably fight the Dead Bride since you will need to maximize the time you have to engage her in a battle, not just run around trying to look for health bars and recover your Shield.
Best Weapon Against the Dead Bride
The Thunder Cage is an optimal weapon for taking on the Dead Bride. To maximize its effectiveness, focus on equipping it with the following Modules:
- Fire Enhancement: This module is crucial for converting your attacks into Fire damage, which is highly effective against the Dead Bride’s defenses.
- Fire Rate UP: Increasing your weapon’s firing rate allows you to deliver more attacks more quickly, thus maximizing your damage output.
- Rifling Reinforcement: Boosting your overall attack power is essential for ensuring each shot packs a punch, further reducing the time needed to bring down the boss.
You might want to consider omitting the Weak Point Damage Module if your Thunder Cage or your weapon of choice still lacks the necessary investments for optimal bossing capabilities. Given the Dead Bride’s small and difficult-to-hit weak points, consistently targeting them can be challenging unless you have exceptional aim. Instead, focus on the Modules above to ensure consistent and effective damage throughout the fight, even if you’re not always hitting the weak points.
Dead Bride Strategy
Lastly, for this Dead Bride guide, we will explain what to do when you fight her in the Void Intercept Boss Battle. Generally, once the Dead Bride spawns, your primary focus should be on targeting either her right or left shoulder until the weak point turns yellow. Continuously aiming for these weak points is crucial as it significantly amplifies the damage you deal.
As you inflict damage, you’ll notice that the Dead Bride’s Frenzied bar begins to fill. Once the Dead Bride has taken enough damage, she will enter Frenzied mode, transitioning into an immunity state where she becomes much harder to damage. However, you can temporarily prevent the Frenzied bar from filling by grappling to the yellowed weak points on her shoulders or chest, or by staggering her, which halts the Frenzied bar’s progression.
Immediately after entering Frenzied mode, the Dead Bride will teleport to a random player and create a large Ice Dome that deals damage over time (DoT). At this point, you have two options: you can either destroy the two tubes on her launcher weapon to stop the Ice Dome from forming, or quickly run out of the Ice Dome’s area of effect. Typically, the Dead Bride will create this Ice Dome twice during each Frenzied mode, so be prepared to react quickly.
Dead Bride’s Attack Patterns
The Dead Bride’s attacks may include the Hand Rocket, Rocket Launcher, Spinning Ice, Ice Stomp, and Frost Laser. These attacks don’t have official names from The First Descendant itself, so we use our terms to explain Dead Bride’s attacks in this guide, and we have curated them below:
-
Hand Rocket, Rocket Launcher, and Spinning Ice: These attacks are usually straightforward to dodge. Simply jump or move to the left or right to avoid them, but be consistent with the direction you choose. Of these three, the Spinning Ice attack deals the highest damage, so it’s crucial to keep moving when she initiates this attack.
-
Ice Stomp: The Dead Bride’s Ice Stomp can knock you down (DBNO), leaving you immobilized for several seconds. To avoid this, ensure you’re not directly beneath her when she uses the Fidget Spinner attack, as this is often when she follows up with Ice Stomp.
-
Frost Laser: During Frenzied mode, the Dead Bride can and possibly will launch a powerful laser attack. This starts with a small laser that indicates the direction she will fire, followed by a massive frost energy beam that deals substantial damage. Always be prepared to evade when you see the initial laser marker.
The key for fighting Dead Bride is to always keep yourself mobile while whittling down her health points through shooting her weak points or damaging her using your Skills. Also, it is worth remembering that Dead Bride can be one of the deadliest Colossus to fight when she enters Frenzied mode, as she can unleash not just Frost Laser, but also the Ice Dome, which will kill you if you are inside its radius for too long.
And that’s everything you need to know to successfully defeat the Dead Bride in The First Descendant.
