Starfield gives the player access to a plethora of different alcoholic beverages to enjoy along their adventure. Each of them is either a touch of the past or a modern take. Along the way, you’ll find a number of specialty concoctions that promise to both wow and amaze you into being a repeat customer. Luckily after having bar-hopped to every major spot in every system, we have the best alcohol choices available. Each has been chosen based on their ability to not only help the player but is worth a pretty penny should the time come. It’s no surprise that alcohol is one of the more valuable items you can collect in deep space, as everyone’s looking for a party!
To make selections for the best alcohol in Starfield, one has to consider the duration of the effect you’re given. Additionally the perks of the drink itself, and the effect on stamina all impact just how useful a brew may be. Luckily if you enjoy anything like Chems or Skooma in other Bethesda titles, alcohol and contraband will certainly be the best route for you. The common effects associated with alcohol in Starfield are carrying weight increases, persuasion chance bonuses, and damage resistance. Some drinks have other effects that complement their specialty nature. Either way, there’s something for everyone when it comes to alcohol, so make sure to keep an eye out for it when looting abandoned places.

Drink Pack Beer
While being one of the cheapest options on the list, a drink pack of beer can be worth quite a bit to a new player. Being able to grant fifty damage resistance to whoever drinks it, these cheap alternatives to armor give you quite the defensive boost. You can get them almost anywhere in the settled systems, even from vending machines. When you’re starting out, looting these drink packs off the corpses of others can be profitable. Absolutely every alcoholic item is worth its weight in credits, and drink pouches of beer are really no different.
The downside to beer is that it also gives the player a reduced oxygen recovery rate of ten percent. This means that you would recover as quickly, however, when you are in a gunfight this shouldn’t bother you too much. Unfortunately, the other downside to simple drink packs of beer is that they only last for three minutes with their effects. It makes the item a lot more limited in how you go about things, but a stack of them can go a long way. If you have an especially tough boss fight ahead of you, it never hurts to knock a few of these alcoholic drinks back!
Drink Pack Whiskey
When looking for something a bit stronger, with a different effect whiskey will always be your friend. In terms of effects, you’ll get an eight-carry weight capacity bonus. This can be incredibly useful when you’re trying to loot various abandoned areas and you’re just a tad over capacity. Not to mention that while alcohols do stack their oxygen regeneration debuff, they also stack their positive effects. This means that no matter how difficult the situation is, you can always just pop something else to supplement the incoming issue. Additionally, whiskey has a five-minute duration which gives the player ample time to loot and get to their ship!
Drinking packs of whiskey gives you a 25 percent oxygen regeneration debuff, since it’s alcoholic. For a base character, this can be annoying, but if you’re just cruising around and looking for stuff, you’ll be fine. Drink packs of whiskey are great to have on hand when you first start out since some of the better carry capacity items are pricey. This means that early on, whiskey can be one of the best alternatives to dropping equipment you don’t need. Maximizing both your profit and your ability to collect valuable loot along the way!
Erdebeau Lager Can
With some of the best damage resistance buffs early on, Erdebeau Lager can be a cheap way to beat hard challenges. The player gets a 70 damage resistance buff for a short time, which can help them survive tough damage. Additionally, because of how cheap they are, you can stock up on them quite easily. Unfortunately, they tend to weigh more than the drink packs which means traditionally you can carry less of them. That being said, they do give you the ability to avoid using all of your healing items in one sitting which is fairly nice.
The downside to these lagers is the fact that they give you a ten percent oxygen debuff, as well as have a very short duration. Overall they have about three minutes of active effects which for their mass makes them kind of clunky. However, the fact that they give you such high damage resistance makes it easier for you to deal with problems otherwise. Erdebeau Lager Cans will get you through difficult battles and level up your perks.
Codos Crater
A rarer beverage that finds its way mostly in the Freestar collective is known as the Codos Crater. This traditional beer comes in a glass bottle and has a whopping 100 damage resistance bonus to whoever drinks it. These are wonderful to collect because not only do they give such a potent bonus to your overall character but they last for five minutes. This means that, unlike our last contender, these are well worth stocking up on. Finally, they are incredibly valuable, being a rarer type of alcohol to find than others. The direct competitor of this brand, Solomon’s Reserve is the U.C.’s version with the same effects.
Codos Crater only has the downside of reducing oxygen production by fifteen percent. This is far less than some other higher-tier alcohols, and certainly more than the previously mentioned lager. That being said, whenever you get this effect for a five-minute period of time, you are usually looking to survive tough shootouts. If not that, then this makes for a fine means of dealing with powerful alien threats like Terrormorphs and Sirens. Unfortunately, besides that, its rarity and price tend to be the only downside as it is a more expensive taste.
Solomon’s Reserve
As the main competitor to Codos Crater, Solomon’s Reserve is a slightly more popular drink around the United Colonies. That being said, you are more often than not going to find this drink over Codos Crater, making it slightly cheaper. It seems that when bottling the products they are practically the same, you save one thing. Solomon’s Reserve chooses to have a lower price point for the sake of repeat customers as it has the same effects. Granting the player a 100 damage resistance bonus for slightly less time, being three minutes. That being said, the cheaper price range and more open market for them make them slightly better than Codos Crater. Finally, it seems the alcohol is overall lighter as it weighs .10 Mass less than the traditional Codos Crater it competes with.
The downside to Solomon’s Reserve, like Codos Crater, is a 15 percent oxygen production debuff. This aside, it is a far more affordable drink with the same effect. They sell for a decent price and can be looted from most abandoned facilities. Due to its popularity in the U.C., military bases seem to carry it a lot. Make sure to hit old military complexes if you can’t find enough of the stuff. You can also find them on trade ships that sell Solomon’s Reserve in settled systems.
Sparkling Wine
Sparkling wine may be your best friend if you run a persuasion build and need more chances of success early on. This alcohol can increase your persuasion success rate by ten percent, so it’s great for speeches. That being said, it’s rather limited in where you can find it to relatively expensive places. Luckily you can craft sparkling wine with the gastronomy perk, however until then you are better off looting it. A good place to look for sparkling wine is on party planets like Neon City. Here in local bars, and hotels you’ll be able to find a firm supply of the stuff to keep you negotiating. Outside of this, it sells for a fairly high-profit margin and has a five-minute duration time. Altogether it creates one of the better alcohol options available in Starfield.
The downside to sparkling wine is that it has a relatively rare chance of being found naturally. This means you either have to craft it or stay near bars in order to stock up on it. Overall, if you want the added success rate that sparkling wine gives you, you’re going to have to pay for it. Additionally, it lowers your oxygen by 15 percent which is fairly moderate compared to some of Your other options. However, when you need a better price, or to get through a social situation, sparkling wine has your back!
Chimera
Another option you have when it comes to gaining persuasion success rates is the mixed drink, Chimera. This is a specialty served in Neon City which can not only give you an added ten percent success rate in persuasion checks but much more. You’ll have access to an additional 50 damage resistance while drinking this mixed cocktail for five minutes. Overall, this makes you pretty much combat capable, while also being willing to negotiate for peace. Undoubtedly this is an asset to any play style especially when you’re first starting out.
Despite how good the chimera may seem, it does have a few drawbacks. For instance, it costs a lot of credits to buy specialty drinks in bulk since the bartender usually has a limited quantity. Additionally, it has a fifteen percent oxygen regeneration debuff. Finally, this chimera drink is only found in one place which means you’ll have to always travel back to Neon City in order to acquire more of it. That being said, if you can afford to keep it in supply, it’s a wonderful way to overcome tough situations.
Blend
Blend is an oddball on the list because it’s the only drink on the list that gives the player the effect of a contraband substance. Being able to simulate the effects of Aurora for a very limited amount of time, ten seconds, can prove useful. You also get a damage resistance buff of 75, which can help in nearly any combat situation. It’s almost certain you’ll get addicted to this blend, unlike most alcoholic drinks on the list. The reason is that this drink simulates the effects of one of the most addictive drugs in the galaxy. Because of this, it can be a useful tool, but at a terrible cost.
Blend’s only downside is that it only lasts for three minutes, with ten seconds of slow down. Because of the extreme risk, you don’t get much out of this drink, but it works in a pinch. Overall, it is the only alcoholic beverage in Starfield that slows down time and offers the player more accurate gunfire. Its only flaw is that it reduces oxygen regeneration by 20 percent, which can be detrimental in combat. Blend has one advantage over Aurora: it can pass through planetary sensors without shielding. It’s a great way for stimulant builds to make the most of alignment early on.
The Top shelf
The Top Shelf is a drink that can be found mostly in places like The Red Mile and Neon City. It is a martini of sorts using some of the highest-grade alcohol in the galaxy. It grants the player 80 damage resistance and an additional six carrying weight which is quite impressive. This drink is quite expensive and is a sign of higher society, and crime bosses alike. In fact, because of how Popular they are. If you have credits, you can stock up on them relatively easily. Of course, being such a small glass of alcohol, the effects are limited, one of its many downsides.
There are a few downsides to The Top Shelf which keep it away from being the best drink in Starfield. For one it lowers your oxygen rate by twenty-five percent which is difficult, but also because it’s unguided. It really doesn’t feel like The Top Shelf was meant to do any one thing better than anyone else. Coupled with the fact that it only lasts for three minutes, it can feel like a real waste of credits. Finally, it’s incredibly expensive and can only be found in a few places which require constant travel. But for that short duration, it makes a great all-around buff if you’re traversing difficult areas while looting.

Bog’s Grog
The best alcohol in Starfield is undoubtedly probably one of the cheapest, Bog’s Grog. Being a specialty drink of Bog, bartender of The Last Nova, he is the typical pirate barkeep. Besides looking for love, he likes to make homemade alcohol in a bathtub for his friends. This bathtub Grog can add 16 masses to your carrying capacity for a whopping ten minutes, longer than any other booze. This drink only costs a couple hundred credits, compared to the thousands The Top Shelf can. You can stock up every time you stop in and keep yourself going no matter what looting you’re doing. For access to this powerful alcohol, you’ll have to join the Crimson Fleet first.
Bog’s grog has a few downsides to it, such as reducing oxygen reproduction by thirty percent. Additionally, you have a high duration of time where this stamina won’t be available to you due to how long the drink lasts. However, Bog’s Grog has a relatively low addiction rate on account of how poorly it tastes. This means you can practically drink it all the time without much risk involved. Just remember that if you need to loot a lot of weapons and ammunition, Bog’s Grog is here for you!
