The second phase of Reverse: 1999 Version 1.1 recently launched, bringing several new additions to The Theft of The Rimet Cup event. After cycling out the previous two event activities – Bio of The Great Thief and The Thief of Thieves – two new event modes have replaced them. The most important, and lucrative, of these new activities is The Puppy and The Hippie, a new event primarily revolving around the escapades of everyone’s favourite border collie, Pickles.
In this new puzzle mode, you must control several chess pieces depicting Pickles, APPLe and Diggers as they try to escape the law’s hands and evade capture. There are 14 missions total, each of which awards 60 Clear Drop, and they can get quite hard like most R1999 puzzles want to do. As such, we’re here to show you a foolproof strategy for conquering every mission, including diagrams which show the exact route you need to solve each puzzle.
Here’s how to solve every puzzle in The Puppy and The Hippie event with two stars in Reverse 1999.

Escape From London Missions
1 – A Warm Call
The first puzzle you’ll be asked to complete in The Puppy and The Hippie is A Warm Call. This mission introduces you to a lot of the basics of the activity and teaches you some important lessons such as retracing your steps. If you want to complete this event, you’ll need to lure and lead the guards just right.
- Left x2 > Right
- Left x2 > Up x 2 > Left > Up > Left > Right > Up x3 > Left > Up
2 – A Floating APPLe Pie
Puzzle 2 in Escape From London is A Floating APPLe Pie. This mission introduces the concept of multiple controllable characters on screen at once that you must manoeuvre around.
Additionally, you’ll also have to learn how to use cans to distract guards. For future reference, any time you see a blue dot on the images, that’s where you need to place the can to correctly distract the guards.
- Pickles: Left > Place Can > Right x2 > Up x5 > Right
- APPLe: Up x2 > Right x2 > Up x2 > Right > Up > Right x2
3 – Relativity of Misunderstanding
Mission 3 in The Hippie and The Puppy is Relativity of Misunderstanding. In this mission, you only control Pickles but you will need to use a can later on to distract the guards.
- Right > Left > Right > Left > Up x4 > Left x2
- Place Can > Up x3 > Left
4 – Bubble Crash
Mission 4, Bubble Crash, is where Reverse 1999 adds another potential wrinkle to your plans. Before this point, getting a full two stars on each mission simply involved avoiding getting caught and reaching the goal within a certain number of moves.
In mission 4, and several other puzzles after this, that second objective changes. Instead, you’ll need to locate and collect a Flyer Fragment scattered somewhere across the map, forcing you to plan out a more complex route than before. From this point forward, missions will rotate between round completion objections and Flyer Fragment objectives so keep an eye out whenever you start a new one.
- Diggers: Right x2 > Place Can
- Pickles: Down x6
- Diggers: Left x2 > Up x2 > Right
- Diggers: Left x3 > Down x7
C1 – Best Partners
Best Partners is the first challenge level in The Puppy and The Hippie. Unlike normal missions, challenge levels don’t offer any Clear Drop for completing them, instead awarding useful upgrade materials used to increase a character’s Insight. As such, while they may not seem as useful or important as the regular puzzles, they’re still absolutely worth doing.
- Pickles: Down > Place Can
- Diggers: Right x2 > Up x5 > Place Can
- Diggers: Up > Right > Up
- Pickles: Up x3 > Left > Up
C2 – All the Extras
The second challenge level you’ll come across in Reverse 1999 is All the Extras and it’s the first Diggers-only mission. To complete it with two stars, you’ll need to collect a Flyer Fragment and use two different cans to distract the guards.
- Left > Up > Left x3 > Up x2 > Right > Place Can
- Up > Left > Up x3
- Down x3 > Right > Down > Right x3 > Up > Place Can
- Right > Up > Left > Up x2 > Right x3
C3 – The Art Evacuation
The final challenge level in the first set of levels is The Art Evacuation. Similar to C2, your only controllable target in this mission is Diggers. What makes this mission challenging is how much backtracking you’ll need to do.
- Up x6 > Left x3 > Right > Left > Down > Left x3 > Down x2 > Left > Down x3
- Up x2 > Down > Up x2 > Right > Up x2 > Right > Left > Up > Right x2 > Up
Night Cruise Missions
5 – A Shoe Left Behind
A Shoe Left Behind is the fifth mission in The Hippie and The Puppy and the first level in the Night Cruise set of levels. Compared to the first half, these puzzles ask a lot more of you, demanding more planning and thought when going about your movements.
For this mission, you’ll be controlling both Diggers and Pickles. Begin by moving them both into position.
- Pickles: Up > Down > Up
- Diggers: Up > Right > Up x5
Once both chess pieces are where they need to be, you can continue onwards. Diggers will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, as his path is filled with a lot more guards than Pickles’ trail.
- Pickles: Up x2
- Diggers: Down > Right x2 > Up > Place Can
- Diggers: Up > Right
- Pickles: Up x4 > Right
6 – A Planner with No Plan
A Planner with No Plan is next on the list and once again asks you to control both Pickles and Diggers. The main thing to watch out for in this stage are the two different cans you’ll need to place with Diggers.
- Pickles: Left
- Diggers: Left x2 > Place Can
- Diggers: Right x2 > Up > Right > Up > Place Can
- Diggers: Down > Left x2 > Up x3 > Right x2
- Pickles: Left > Up > Left x2 > Up x2 > Right > Up x4 > Right x2
7 – Bouncey Ball
Mission 7 of The Puppy and The Hippie is Bouncey Ball. This is another puzzle where you’ll need to collect a Flyer Fragment (which is, fortunately, placed right next to where Pickles starts) so make sure to collect it before reaching the Goal.
- Diggers: Up x3 > Left x2 > Place Can
- Pickles: Up x2 > Left
- Pickles: Right > Up x4 > Left
- Diggers: Down > Left x2 > Up x4 > Left
8 – Transfer Ceremony
The last main mission in the event is the Transfer Ceremony and, honestly, it’s one of the easier levels. You will need to use a can for distraction purposes but, aside from that, there’s nothing too difficult here.
Start by controlling Pickles. Go Up twice until you reach the distraction can and then Place the Can to your immediate right.
Once the can has been placed, you can begin controlling Diggers for the second part of the mission.
- Diggers: Down > Left x5
- Pickles: Down > Up > Left > Up > Right
C4 – Living the Past Again
On average, the Night Cruise challenge levels are a lot more difficult than the Escape From London challenge missions. Instead of asking you to juggle a lot of mechanics, their challenge mainly arises from how much backtracking and retracing your steps you’ll need to do.
In this mission, Living the Past Again, your only controllable target is Diggers and, in another stroke of fortune, there aren’t any cans to use or Flyers to collect. Because of this, this puzzle is a straight shot from one end to the other: just follow the path laid out below and you’ll guide Diggers to safety in one short, sharp run.
- Left x2 > Up > Left x4 > Up > Left > Up x2 > Right x6 > Up > Right
C5 – Plan of Escape
Plan of Escape is the penultimate mission in The Puppy and The Hippy event in Reverse 1999. If you’re going to trip up anywhere in this level, it’s going to be with Pickles.
- Pickles: Right x2
- Diggers: Left > Down > Right > Down > Left > Down > Right > Down
- Pickles: Left > Right > Left x3
- Pickles: Down x4 > Left > Down > Right > Left
C6 – Going Home Alone
Finally, the last mission of the event is Going Home Alone and it is easily the most difficult level in the entire event. Instead of asking you to use multiple cans or collect Flyers in difficult-to-reach places, C6 simply stuffs the level full of guards in a way which demands that you walk back on yourself multiple times.
A lot is going on in this mission so make sure to stay focused. You’ll begin controlling Pickles at the bottom of the map.
- Up > Down x2 > Up x2 > Down x2
- Left x2 > Up x2 > Left x2 > Up > Left > Up x2 > Right x3 > Up x2 > Right x4 > Down x2
The next part of C6 is where most of its infamous challenge comes from. Here, you’ll need to make multiple passes back on yourself, returning to the same spot multiple times to ensure that the guards arrive in the exact position you need them to.
Like before, just stick to the guide and go slowly to ensure that you don’t make any mistakes.
- Up x2 > Left > Down x2 > Up > Right > Down
- Up > Left > Down > Right > Down > Left x3
That was how to solve and complete every The Puppy and The Hippie puzzle in Reverse 1999.
