The latest season of Rainbow Six: Siege, Operation Deadly Omen, comes out with a bang by adding Deimos to the game’s expansive list of operators across many countries’ CTUs (Counter-Terrorism Units). He’s the mastermind behind Harry’s death, the one who has been giving Rainbow a tough time the past year, and the mastermind behind Rainbow and Nighthaven’s fallout.
He is the first villain operator that joins Rainbow’s roster, and today’s guide will discuss everything we know about him, starting with his background bio, his weapons, secondary gadgets, and lastly, his primary gadget, the DeathMARK Tracker.
Rainbow: Six Siege is available on PC (both Steam and Ubisoft Connect), PS4 & PS5, and Xbox Xbox Series X|S.
Deimos’ Story
Deimos’ real name is Gerald Morris, and he was a top Rainbow operator before 2012 when he turned rogue against his agency and killed his fellow agent, Daniel Bogart. Their task was to find and apprehend a bomb maker who was hiding in an Eastern European breakaway state. Deimos grew disillusioned after years experiencing being a government’s ‘pawn’, so he finally snaps and faked his death to kickstart his mercenary band, the Keres Legion.
“I was there when Rainbow began. I’ll be there when it ends.”
Gerald Morris was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He was close to his godfather, a military veteran, who would sneak Morris off to Western matinees and gun ranges. Discovering sheriff Bass Reeves in a history book was a watershed moment for the young Morris, giving him an idol for years to come.
Personality-wise, Deimos is cold and calculating. Combined with his extensive experience within Rainbow, he is a menacing villain who shakes the current Rainbow to its core. During the past year, not only did he manage to injure many of its operators, but Deimos also executed the previous Six, Harry, in his house, saying that Rainbow became ‘soft’ during his tenure.
Deimos revels in Rainbow’s downfall, and he will do whatever it takes to see them crashing down. And when that happens… he will watch it all with a smile on his lips.
Deimos’ Loadout
With Deimos’ identity and past known to us, it’s time to scrutinize his loadout in Rainbow Six: Siege for the next part of this guide. Starting with his Armor / Speed ratio, Deimos is balanced, as he is sitting at 2 Armor / 2 Speed, making him a powerful operator that can utilize his gadget well, as he’s not too squishy for combat, and not too chunky and slow to move around the map either.
Weapons and Secondary Gadgets
Moving on, Deimos’ weapons of choice consist of two Primary Weapons and one Secondary Weapon. The first Primary Weapon is the AK-74M, which previously only belonged to Nomad. This Assault Rifle has 44 Damage and 650 RPM, making it a relatively slow-firing weapon, but this drawback is partially covered by its great damage. Meanwhile, if you prefer to do it close and personal, then Deimos’ second Primary Weapon will suit you just fine, as he comes with the M590A1 Shotgun as his second Primary Weapon option.
As for his Secondary Weapon, Deimos only needs his custom-made .44 Vendetta, a six-shooter revolver that has a special scope to help Deimos hunt down his targets.
While Deimos comes with a primary gadget, just like other operators, he has two secondary gadgets: Frag Grenades or Hard Breach Charges. If you’d like to flush out Defenders in a favorable position during your hunt, you can equip the Frag Grenades to make Deimos a more formidable hunter. However, if you’d like him to have more utilities for the team, then the Hard Breach Charges are your go-to secondary gadget.
Overall, Deimos’ Loadout is super solid all around, with decent Primary Weapons and great secondary gadgets. The star of his kit is the .44 Vendetta, which has incredibly low recoil and high base damage, capable of killing even 3 Armor Defenders with 2 body shots.
DeathMARK Tracker
After knowing the serious firepower that Deimos brings to the table, it’s time to learn about the crux of his kit, the primary gadget, the DeathMARK Tracker. The way this gadget works is that this miniature flying probe seeks out a chosen target and reveals their location to Deimos while also revealing his location, creating a deadly hide-and-seek hunt, where either the hunter kills his mark, or the hunted becomes the hunter.
The DeathMARK Tracker works like Lesion’s Gu Mines, where Deimos gain a Tracker over time, to a maximum of 3 DeathMARK Trackers.
This gadget works by first picking which Defender you want to hunt, however, you need to spot these Defenders by either droning them and using red ping or waiting until one of your allies dies to a Defender, promptly revealing their identities. The preferable method before activating the DeathMARK Tracker is to use the first method, as the second one needs you to ‘sacrifice’ one of your allies in exchange for one of the Defenders’ identities.
Once you manage to at least get a Defender, the next step to activate Deimos’ DeathMARK Tracker is scrolling through the Defenders, after you pick your target, press and hold the gadget button (the default is the middle mouse), and there will be a prompt on your screen that notify everyone that Deimos is currently hunting a Defender), as seen with the image below.
After this, there will be a brief period where both Deimos and the target Defender know each other’s location, giving live pings every time they move. There are two ways where this hunting phase can end: Either Deimos cancels the hunt by holding the default gadget button, or one of them is killed.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Deimos, being the first villainous operator to grace Rainbow Six: Siege, definitely comes with a bang, with an exceptional revolver and a deadly gadget. However, just like any other operator, he also has his limitations and upsides that must be carefully understood before you decide to use him. This is why, for the next part of this Deimos guide, we will put a table to determine where his strengths are and what are Deimos’ weaknesses below.
Strengths | Weaknesses |
---|---|
The .44 Vendetta revolver is one of, if not the best Secondary Weapon in Rainbow Six: Siege right now. It has almost zero recoil, high base damage, and a special scope that Deimos can utilize to hunt down his enemies. | Deimos’ Primary Weapon, AK-74M, is a relatively weak Assault Rifle, thus forcing you to land your shots well before the Defenders can react against Deimos. |
The DeathMARK Tracker lasts for around 20 seconds, which gives Deimos ample time to locate his target and potentially kill them. | The DeathMARK Tracker is easily countered by Mute’s Signal Disruptor and Vigil’s ERC-7 Device, making him temporarily unable to hunt these operators or other operators who are seeking refuge at a Signal Disruptor. |
Deimos’ secondary gadgets complement his kit well. Both the Frag Grenades and Hard Breach Charges are solid options, though usually, running Frag Grenades is the desirable option to give him a better tactical advantage to flush out his target. | The DeathMARK Tracker’s pings are only visible to both Deimos and his target, so playing him in a solo environment without friends/trusted teammates diminishes his potential. |
Deimos’ Counters
Now that you know Deimos’ gadgets, weapons, strengths, and weaknesses, it’s time to learn his counters for the next part of this guide. As the DeathMARK Tracker is an electronic device, two Defenders can disrupt his gadget during a match, Mute and Vigil.
Mute
The first counter to Deimos is Mute, one of the Pathfinder operators from the SAS in Rainbow Six: Siege. The reason why Mute is a prime counter to Deimos is thanks to his Signal Disruptor gadget, which will block all electronic gadgets within the range of Mute’s Signal Disruptor.
If Deimos is trying to target Mute while he is stepping in one of the Signal Disruptors, then the DeathMARK Tracker will stop functioning and thus return that charge to Deimos. Meanwhile, if Mute is tracked after the few seconds window before Deimos can fully track Mute, then stepping into a jammer’s radius will only temporarily pause the DeathMARK Tracker’s timer, granting Mute or other operators who step into his jammer some time before the timer wears off.
The drawback of this strategy is that you are forced to stay inside the jammer’s radius continuously, and that’s fine if you’re safe within the bomb sites, hidden behind walls, and other things. However, if you are in an unfavorable position, say, in a hallway or close to the Attackers’ positions, then you have no choice but to engage them in a firefight, potentially finding Deimos among them.
Vigil
The next Defender that can effectively counter Deimos is Vigil, a South Korean operator who can protect himself from any prying eyes thanks to his ERC-7 Device.
Just like Mute, if Vigil manages to activate his gadget before Deimos can fully initiate his hunt through the DeathMARK Tracker, then he will be safe from his hunt, which will refund a Tracker charge to Deimos. However, activating the ERC-7 Device after Deimos manages to track you can only stop the timer temporarily until either your gadget or Deimos’ Tracker wears off.
Deimos’ Operator Synergies
Lastly, for this Deimos guide, we will talk about his Attacker synergies. Being an intel operator, Deimos has several allies that can work well with him to hunt down the Defenders, and they are Lion and Dokkaebi.
Lion
Lion is one of the Attackers that can gather intel about the Defenders in a relatively simple way, all thanks to his ‘big brother’, the EE-One-D Drone, capable of tracking and pinging the Defenders who dare to even move an inch during its active phase.
Since Deimos can track and isolate one Defender, communicating with your team’s Lion is key if you want to create mass panic amongst the Defenders. Combining these two operators also means that whoever Deimos targets, that Defender will be forced to stay still for 1.5 seconds or they will be tracked not just by Deimos, but also by Lion, potentially ending their life quickly.
Dokkaebi
The next Attacker that meshes well with Deimos’ DeathMARK Tracker is Dokkaebi, who, thanks to her expertise in electronics, is capable of disrupting the Defenders’ way of surveillance with her Logic Bomb gadget.
When the Defenders use one or several Roamers, using a Logic Bomb can force them to either let their phones ring for 12 seconds or enter a 3-second forced animation to disable this call. However, Deimos can exploit this time window and start a hunt against these Defenders, potentially isolating them from the rest of their teammates through a pincer attack.
Additionally, you can have a massive combo of intel gathering by having Deimos, Lion, Dokkaebi, and Jackal all at once in your team, in which you can quickly surmise about the Defenders’ lineup and their positions through live pings and Logic Bomb calls. This team lineup is for a fast-paced attacking method, where each Attacker enters the building in less than 45 seconds and starts picking off the Defenders one by one.
And that’s all you need to know about Deimos in Rainbow Six: Siege.
