The world of Once Human is strange and twisted, filled with monsters born from stardust and random anomalies scattered throughout. This makes exploration exciting, especially with encounters like the one at Dayton Hospital early in the game.
In Once Human, Dayton Hospital is part of a side quest where you need to find Kayla. During the quest, you’ll reach a point where you’re stuck in a loop and must solve a puzzle to escape. After meeting an injured Paul in Dayton Warehouse, he asks you to find Kayla, who went to the hospital for medicine. When you find the meds and interact with them, you’ll be transported to another world. As you proceed, you’ll encounter a phantom wheelchair, which leads you to a room where you’re trapped in a loop, hearing the Nurse’s Station message repeated over and over.

How to Start Dayton Hospital Quest
Dayton Hospital is a point of interest (POI) located west of Brookham and just north of the Monolith of Greed in the Dayton Wetlands. The area includes all surrounding buildings, including a warehouse on the western side where you’ll meet an NPC named Paul.
Location of Dayton Hospital Quest
Paul is an injured survivor hiding in the warehouse, waiting for his partner, Kayla, who went to the hospital to find medical supplies. It’s been some time since she left, and Paul fears something may have happened to her. He asks you to search for Kayla and the supplies in the hospital.
You’ll find Kayla’s body in a supply room on the upper floors of the hospital. When you interact with the Emergency Medicine on one of the shelves, the area around you will distort. After a brief loading screen, you’ll enter a special version of the hospital, separate from the main open world.
How to Escape Dayton Hospital in Once Human
To solve the Dayton Hospital puzzle in Once Human, start by checking the black calendar on the wall to see the date. If it’s not September 15, 2023, you’ll need to use the hospital’s timewarp system to adjust it.
When you enter the room, an intercom will announce that a patient in Ward 703 is set to be discharged on September 15, 2023, which is your key to escaping. However, the calendar is stuck on a different date, and your goal is to change it to September 15, 2023.
The doors in Dayton Hospital
To do this, use the two doors in the room, each with a time-manipulating ability:
- Door 1 (next to the calendar): Passing through this door moves the date back by one day.
- Door 2 (next to the desk): This door shifts the date forward by one month.
Use these doors strategically to set the calendar to the correct date and solve the puzzle.
The Calendar in the Dayton Hospital
To change the date to September 15 and escape Dayton Hospital in Once Human, follow these steps:
- Enter the door next to the desk multiple times to move the month forward until you reach September. If starting in January, you’ll need to do this about eight times.
- Once it’s September, use the door by the calendar to adjust the days until you reach the 15th. Don’t worry if you go past it; you can correct it.
After setting the calendar to September 15, 2023, go to the phone at the information counter and press “F” to call the nurse. This will unlock the door on your right, allowing you to finally interact with the wheelchair and complete this part of the quest.
