Beyond providing water to your base, the Water Pump has other important uses. It can extract oil and polluted water, which can be processed into acid, a key resource for making fuel. However, the game doesn’t clearly explain how to fully utilize these capabilities.

How to Build a Water Pump in Once Human

You’ll face many creatures and a contaminated environment that make survival tough. To stay healthy, you’ll need access to resources like water.

The Water Pump is a better option than the Rainwater Collection System because it draws water from the ground, providing a more reliable water source. It can also be used to collect crude oil when placed on oil fields or extract salt when placed on a beach. The Water Pump must be installed directly on the ground, not on a foundation. Once connected to a power source, it will start operating.

Unlocking Water Pump

In Once Human, the Water Pump can be unlocked through the Memetics Tree. It’s a Tier 3 unlock in the Logistics category, requiring five Ciphers, 700 Energy Links, and prior unlocking of the Water Filters Memetic.

Placing Water Pump

The ideal spot to place a Water Pump in Once Human is within a body of water. You might need to relocate your territory closer to a water source to position the Pump effectively. Once the Pump is set in the water, it will begin collecting Dirty Water from the source.

After placing the Water Pump, it’s crucial to ensure that it’s getting the power as the water system only functions when powered. Without power, water follows gravity, flowing down the pipes and draining your storage, leaving the water collector full and the storage empty.

Purifying the Water

To purify water from the Water Pump in Once Human, you’ll need to connect it to a Water Purifier, which can be a regular one, an Osmosis Water Purifier, or a Stardust Water Purifier. You should link the Pump directly to the Purifier through the small water pump.

Purifier and Water Tank

Once connected, dirty water will flow into the purifier, which will convert it into pure water and impure acid. Remember, both the Water Pump and Purifier require electricity, so ensure you have enough power generation in your Territory.

Storing the Water

Next, build the Water Tank below or beside the Purifier then go to either Purifier or Tank and press ‘B’ to enter the Build screen. You’ll see an option on both the Tank and the Purifier that says ‘Connect Pipe.’ Select this option, and a pipe will attach to the facility you’re next to. Then, extend the pipe to the other facility and connect it. If you’ve placed the Water Tank and Water Purifier correctly, the pipe will show water flowing from the Pump to the Tank.

In conclusion, you should first build the water pump for the groundwater, then connect it to the water purifier using the small water pump. After that, connect the purifier to the storage tank, and make sure that the water purifier is above or beside the water tank so that the water flows naturally with gravity.
