“Journey’s End” is a side quest in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that becomes available later in the game. To complete this quest, you must solve a puzzle to unlock a room within the Ancient Stronghold. That room contains a large chest with a legendary weapon inside, which is the reward for completing the quest. This is how you can solve the “Journey’s End” puzzle to unlock the secret room and complete the quest.

How to Unlock the “Journey’s End” Quest
First, note that you can only unlock the secret room in the Ancient Stronghold ruin during the “Journey’s End” quest. To play through the “Journey’s End” quest, you must first complete the “Message, the Stick, and the Artist” and “Art Leading Life” side quests by speaking to Phidias in his workshop in Elis. You can only do that when you’ve progressed further enough in the game to have completed all the main story quests that include Phidias.
“Journey’s End” becomes available when you’ve found all the statues needed for completing “Art Leading Life” and returned to Phidias’ workshop. The level of that quest can vary depending on what your character’s level is. It’s best not to attempt “Journey’s End” if you’re more than three levels below its recommended level because you will need to fight through some guards on it.
How to Unlock the Secret Room in the Ancient Stronghold
The “Journey’s End” quest directs you to find a secret room in the Ancient Stronghold fortress on Lemnos. Go to that quest’s objective marker on the map, where you’ll need to fight your way through a few guards at the fortress to reach the secret room’s door. To unlock that door, you’ll need to press four of the eight buttons on the room’s walls in the correct sequence.
The scytale you pick up from Phidias provides a clue for solving the “Journey’s End” puzzle. That scytale scroll in your inventory shows the symbols for the four buttons you need to press to unlock the door. The order you need to press those button symbols is spear first, dark lion second, white third lion, and bird fourth.
Turn to the left wall (from the door you enter the room). First, you must press the spear button on the far left of that wall. Press the dark lion button on the right side of that wall second.
Next, turn to the buttons on the opposite wall. Thirdly, press the button with the white lion on it. The fourth and final button you must press is the one with the bird symbol beside the white lion.
Now you’ve solved the “Journey’s End” puzzle and can enter the unlocked secret room. Open the large chest inside that room to pick up the Atlantean Blade. This is a very cool Isu-forged blade with a legendary 30 percent armor penetration engraving that makes it stronger than most daggers. Plus, it has a 25% critical hit and 15% hunter damage bonuses.
Who Killed Phidias?
However, solving the “Journey’s End” puzzle doesn’t reveal who killed Phidias and why. To discover who did the dirty on Phidias, you must complete all the Fate of Atlantis side quests that become available after finishing the Gates of Atlantis questline. Those side quests start with “Heir of Memories” on Triton. One of the most violent scenes in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey reveals what happened to Phidias after players complete all the “Three Symbols Entombed” Fate of Atlantis quests.
The Atlantean Blade you’ll get from solving the “Journey’s End” puzzle is a big reward for completing that quest. That weapon is one of the best daggers in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The 708 drachmae received for completing “Journey’s End” is also a good bonus on top.
