Where Is the Phase Spider Matriarch in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Phase Spider Matriarch is a boss that lurks in the Whispering Depths. This is an optional area. While you don’t technically have to venture down there, it is recommended. Especially if you are trying to reach a high enough level to proceed to Act 2 without getting absolutely demolished.
Head to the Blighted Village just east of the Goblin Camp and west of the Emerald Grove. Once you reach the waypoint in the Blighted Village, turn so your back is facing it and move straight forward to find a well.

Interact with the well in the Blighted Village to find out that it’s not just your average well but the entrance to the Whispering Depths. Drop down the well to reach the depths below.
How to Prepare for the Phase Spider Matriarch
There are a couple of things you will want to do before triggering the boss fight. Your first task is to dispose of as many egg sacks as possible. These egg sacks explode during the fight, releasing baby spiders. The baby spiders aren’t necessarily strong, but there are a lot of them.
To mitigate the egg sack issue, look out for the small clusters of grey/white eggs scattered about the Whispering Depths and destroy them as you go. That way, there will be fewer baby spiders to deal with in the actual boss fight.

The second thing you will want to do is collect the Spiderstep Boots. These prevent you from becoming Enwebbed, which is a real threat in the Whispering Depths thanks to the web bridges and the spider’s attacks. You can find the Spiderstep Boots in the illuminated room on the left after you drop down the well.
Phase Spider Matriarch Boss Guide
The Whispering Depths is rather small, so it won’t be long until you stumble across the Phase Spider Matriarch. She has a total of 125 HP, 16 Strength, and 16 Dexterity. The Phase Spider Matriarch doubles her strength to 32 after you whittle her down to half health.

The Phase Spider Matriarch fight takes place in an area with several high ledges. Each ledge is connected via a bridge made out of spider webs. Wait until the Phase Spider Matriarch is standing on one of these web bridges before setting it on fire. If you don’t have a fire spell, a Fire Arrow would work just as well. The fire will burn through the bridge, sending the boss plummeting to the ground below. This deals a decent amount of damage, as well as giving you the higher ground in the fight.
Take advantage of the humble shove during this battle as well. You can use shove after using your main attack, giving you an extra move to potentially cause a bit of damage. At the the very least, it will put some distance between you and the horde of spiders that are plotting your demise.

Staying on the ledges while pushing everything else off gives you the perfect position to release a volley of long-range attacks at the enemies below. But putting one or two of your party members on the bottom level is a good tactical move, provided you are prepared for them to become a target.
Approach the Phase Spider Matriarch from the bottom level and shove her straight down the pit and into the Underdark below. This will kill her immediately. Send whoever you equipped the Spiderstep Boots to on this mission to end the battle as soon as possible.
