Honkai Star Rail Stagnant Shadow Guide How to Defeat Dreamjolt Troupe's Beyond Overcooked and Sweet Gorilla in Penacony

With the recent release of Version 2.0 in Honkai: Star Rail, the game sees a lot of new things for all players to enjoy, starting from the Main Quests, the Reverie Hotel with its Dreamscape areas, and bountiful of puzzles and NPCs to meet. However, not everything and everyone we meet in Penacony is friendly, and these enemies are ready to confront the Trailblazers who dare to challenge them in the new Stagnant Shadows in Penacony.

There are two new Stagnant Shadows: Shape of Roast and Shape of Nectar, and these two challenges harbor two new Elite Enemies that can quickly eradicate your team if you are not careful. These Elite Enemies are Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked and Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla, where both enemies were once Penacony’s attractions turned into nightmares, and they are ready to harm any visitor that comes near them.

Penacony’s Stagnant Shadow Locations

Before learning how to defeat these tough Elite Enemies, we must first learn their location within Penacony’s landscape. Fortunately, you can stumble across them during Honkai: Star Rail‘s Version 2.0 Main Quests, as both Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked and Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla reside in the Dreamscape.

Shape of Nectar

The first Stagnant Shadow we will discuss is the Shape of Nectar, which you can find in The Reverie (Dreamscape) sub-area within Penacony. It is unlockable after you reach a certain threshold of Penacony’s Main Story Quests.

Within the Shape of Nectar, you will encounter your main target, Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla alongside two Dreamjolt Troupe’s Bubble Hounds. However, the Sweet Gorilla can summon two additional Bubble Hounds with its ability, SoulGlad Party.

Shape of Roast

The second Stagnant Shadow in Penacony, the Shape of Roast, is located in the Dream’s Edge sub-area. It’s available once you reach a certain point of Penacony’s Main Story Quests that has been available since the Version 2.0 update.

Within the Shape of Roast, you will encounter your main target, Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked alongside two Dreamjolt Troupe’s Mr. Domescreens.

Best Team Compositions

It is undeniable that Honkai: Star Rail harbors dangerous enemies within its Stagnant Shadows, so trying to field the best team composition against a certain Stagnant Shadow is the key to a smooth victory against the Elite Enemies. For the next part of this guide, we will list down two best team compositions, one for Shape of Nectar and one for Shape of Roast, to help you conquer Penacony’s tough challenges.

Wall of Gepard Team (Shape of Nectar)

As stated before, the Shape of Nectar Stagnant Shadow harbors the Sweet Gorilla, one of the two new Elite Enemies in Penacony. What makes this adversary unique is the fact that you can counter his attacks by simply having a Shielder, and by doing so, Sweet Gorilla’s attacks will backfire and hit him, dealing damage while also reducing his DEF stat.

With that in mind, the best team composition against Shape of Nectar is composed of Gepard, Bronya, Luocha, and Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae.

Gepard’s abilities, more specifically his Technique and Ultimate, grant his allies a massive Shield, protecting them from harm for several turns. This is important, as the Sweet Gorilla can unleash his special Ability as fast as the second Turn, requiring you to quickly erect a Shield before one of your team members gets beaten down.

As for Bronya and Luocha, they are here as the Buffer and Sustainer/Healer respectively. Bronya’s Skill makes it so that your DPS character can potentially move two times per turn, outmaneuvering Sweet Gorilla and the Bubble Hounds. In addition, Luocha is almost guaranteed to use his Basic Attack every time, which is a nice bonus for the Skill Points economy, helping Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae to trigger his strongest Basic Attack faster.

If you don’t have Gepard, you can substitute him with March 7th or Trailblazer (Preservation), as they can also act as the main Shielder of the team, albeit less effective when facing off against Sweet Gorilla. Meanwhile, for the main DPS, instead of Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae, you can switch him out with Argenti or Dr. Ratio, as these two characters are as effective as he is when it comes to damage dealing.

Burst Team (Shape of Roast)

To resist Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked, which resides at the second Penacony’s Stagnant Shadow, players must be cautious as its special attack can hurt your entire team. For this purpose, your team composition against it will require burst damage capabilities, potentially killing Beyond Overcooked before it can enter the Stove Heating stance.

With that in mind, your best shot against Shape of Roast is a team of Bronya, Jingliu, Luocha, and Blade.

Bronya and Luocha will return as the resident Support characters. If you don’t have them, then you can switch out Bronya for Tingyun, Yukong, or Ruan Mei. As for Luocha, you can replace him with Huohuo or Lynx.

Jingliu and Blade’s compatibility is super useful when fighting against Beyond Overcooked, as Jingliu’s HP reduction works well with Blade’s inherent Talent. These two DPS characters can burst down Beyond Overcooked before it can trigger its special attack if you can properly support them by using Bronya or Ruan Mei.

Best Strategies to Use

Shape of Nectar

In Shape of Nectar, your main adversary will be the Dreamjolt Troupe’s Sweet Gorilla, which has several unique Ice-based Abilities. But you should be careful about his Unlimited Free Drinks and Celebration Fountain Abilities.

The Unlimited Free Drinks, fortunately, can’t come out immediately, as the Sweet Gorilla needs to enter the Celebration Fountain stance first, which he will usually do within the first two turns, so enacting Gepard’s Shield during this time is the key to dealing damage while also reducing Sweet Gorilla’s DEF early on.

While they are not inherently dangerous, the Bubble Hounds prove beneficial as killing them quickly can deal Physical DMG and inflict Bleed to its adjacent units, potentially helping you defeat the Sweet Gorilla faster.

Shape of Roast

As for the Shape of Roast, your main adversary will be the Dreamjolt Troupe’s Beyond Overcooked, which has several unique Fire-focused Abilities. The one you should always keep an eye on is its Stove Heating stacks.

The way this Ability works is that for every six attacks Beyond Overcooked receives, it will enter the Ignite Stove Stance, giving it access to a deadlier Fire attack that can deal massive damage to your team members. Beyond Overcooked starts at zero stack at the beginning of the battle, and gains a stack whenever it receives damage.

Is it a game-ending when you let Beyond Overcooked reach six stacks? No, definitely not, but your team will suffer a bit, and potentially get picked off one by one if your Healer is not strong enough to deal with the aftermath, so preventing this T-Rex enemy from unleashing its Flaming Stir-Fry is a must.

As stated previously, Jingliu and Blade work incredibly well with each other, as Blade gets a stack whenever Jingliu unleashes her special Skill. However, it is worth noting that you should keep their Ultimate and only use them when Beyond Overcooked enters Ignite Stove Stance.

Another way to deal with this Elite Enemy is by simply fielding one Damage over Time (DoT) character, such as Kafka or Black Swan, as Beyond Overcooked also gains one stack after getting hit by a DoT effect, thus speeding up the process of triggering its Kitchen Mishap Ability, which disrupts Beyond Overcooked’s routine, dealing Fire DMG to itself and its allies while also reducing its DEF stat.

And that’s how you can defeat the latest Honkai: Star Rail‘s Stagnant Shadows in Penacony.
