Dr. Ratio Materials

To start this guide, we will take a closer look at Dr. Ratio’s materials that you must gather to ascend him to Level 80. Here is the list of all things you need:

  • 15x Thief’s Instinct / 15x Usurper’s Scheme / 15x Conqueror’s Will (Antimatter Legion Enemy Drops)
  • 65x Suppressing Edict (Stagnant Shadow Drops)
  • 308,000 Credits

When looking for the Antimatter Legion series materials, the Antimatter Legion enemies are your best chance of finding them and you can battle these enemies in Herta’s Space Station. Moreover, you will have better consistency in finding the materials when you try battling through Simulated Universe Worlds. Additionally, you can convert low-grade materials into higher grades using the Omni-Synthesizer. Last but not least, you can easily earn a steady stream of Thief’s Instinct through Assignments, netting you 20 (+10) pieces each day.

Another key piece for Dr. Ratio that you’ll need is the Stagnant Shadow Drop, the Suppressing Edict. To unlock this Stagnant Shadow, you can find it in the Artisanship Workshop sub-region within Xianzhou Luofu. To earn the materials, you have to spend 30 Trailblaze Power to challenge them, and you will have better drops as your difficulty progresses. The main boss you will encounter here is an Aurumaton enemy, Aurumaton Gatekeeper, who can enact Sanctions against your team if you keep attacking them.

As for Dr. Ratio’s Traces, you’ll need all three rarities of the Path of The Hunt material (Arrow of the Beast Hunter, Arrow of the Demon Slayer, and Arrow of the Starchaser). You’ll also need to fight the newest Echo of War, Starcrusher Swarm King – Skaracabaz (Synthetic), as Dr. Ratio requires the material, Past Evils of the Borehole Planet Disaster, from the weekly boss, which was introduced in Version 1.6.

Dr. Ratio Skill Overview

Similar to previous characters in Honkai: Star Rail, Dr. Ratio possesses a variety of instruments for battling adversaries. We’ll examine his Basic Attack, Skill, Talent, Technique, and Ultimate to understand the extent of his abilities.

Basic Attack: Mind is Might

Starting his kit overview, we’ll look at Dr. Ratio’s Basic Attack, Mind is Might. With this attack, Dr. Ratio deals Imaginary DMG to a single enemy target.

And that’s it. Unfortunately, you won’t find any unique mechanism within Dr. Ratio’s Basic Attack and shouldn’t expect special effects like those of Dan Heng IL or Blade. Still, his Basic Attack does its job when you need it the most, and that’s more than enough as Dr. Ratio rather focuses on Follow-up Attacks that come from his Ultimate and Skill.

Basic Attack, Mind is Might.

Basic Attack, Mind is Might.

Skill: Intellectual Midwifery

The next part of Dr. Ratio’s kit is his Skill, Intellectual Midwifery. This Skill allows Dr. Ratio to stomp out his enemy by dealing Imaginary DMG equal to his 75-150% ATK to a single enemy.

While you might think that his Skill is kind of bland and uninspiring, it is a contradiction to what Dr. Ratio stands for, there’s more to it than meets the eye. This is thanks to his Talent, Cogito, Ergo Sum, which work incredibly well with his Skill. The way this works is that whenever Dr. Ratio utilizes his Skill, he has a 40% fixed chance to launch a Follow-up Attack against that same enemy, dealing Imaginary DMG up to 270% of his ATK.

Additionally, for every debuff that the enemy target has, the Follow-up Attack’s chance increases by 20%, meaning that the more debuffs the target has, the more likely that Dr. Ratio will bring forth his bonus attack, granting him huge damage against a singular target. This Talent and Skill combo means that any debuffer or any Nihility character in the game is the perfect character to pair with him, with Silver Wolf being the prime character for this role.

Ultimate: Syllogistic Paradox

Now we enter the Ultimate territory, where once again, Dr. Ratio is highly capable of dishing out damage against a single enemy, potentially killing off that enemy in one go. His Ultimate, Syllogistic Paradox, deals massive damage to a single target, and after the Ultimate ends, Dr. Ratio applies the Wiseman’s Folly effect on that enemy.

When Dr. Ratio’s allies attack a target afflicted with Wiseman’s Folly, Dr. Ratio launches his Talent’s Follow-up Attack for 1 time against this target. Wiseman’s Folly can be triggered up to 2 times and only affects the most recent target of Dr. Ratio’s Ultimate.

This means that Dr. Ratio’s Talent is not only usable with his Skill, but also for his Ultimate, and worry not, as their requirements differ from each other, so Dr. Ratio’s Follow-up Attacks can overlap with each other instead of canceling them out, meaning that if you time it well, he can dish out multiple Follow-up Attacks against a single enemy.

However, do keep in mind that Wiseman’s Folly only affects Dr. Ratio’s Ultimate target, so it is wise to unleash it against a very strong enemy like the Aurumaton series or the Antimatter Legion’s heavy-duty Voidrangers.

Talent: Cogito, Ergo Sum

Perhaps the best kit in his entire arsenal, Dr. Ratio’s Talent, Cogito, Ergo Sum, allows him to terrorize his enemies and make them know their place within the universal landscape.

When using his Skill, Dr. Ratio has a 40% fixed chance of launching a Follow-up Attack against his target for 1 time, dealing Imaginary DMG equaling up to 288% of Dr. Ratio’s ATK. For each debuff the target enemy has, the fixed chance of launching a Follow-up Attack increases by 20%. If the target enemy is defeated before the Follow-up Attack triggers, the Follow-up Attack will be directed at a single random enemy instead.

As previously mentioned, Dr. Ratio’s Talent is the penultimate part of his abilities, the one who glues Skill and Ultimate together, by making them more potent and have great potential if you can build him right and give him the best-supporting characters for him to shine on the battlefield.

Talent, Cogito, Ergo Sum.

Talent, Cogito, Ergo Sum.

Technique: Mold of Idolatry

Last but not least, Dr. Ratio also has a Technique that befits a genius doctor like him. Mold of Idolatry, as the name suggests, creates a special dimension where Dr. Ratio erects a statue of himself that will Taunt all nearby enemies for 10 seconds.

After entering battle with enemies in this special dimension, there is a 100% base chance to reduce each single enemy target’s SPD by 15% for 2 turn(s). Only 1 dimension created by allies can exist at the same time.

Overall, Dr. Ratio’s dimensional Technique allows him to apply a debuff to all enemies at once, perfect to quickly and reliably trigger his Talent’s effects right off the bat. However, just like other dimensional-based Techniques, only one can take effect on the field at the same time, so you can’t combine Dr. Ratio’s Technique with Jingliu’s, for example. Still, his Technique is the best tool for him as he can enact Follow-up Attacks faster than usual, so you should always use Dr. Ratio’s Technique when you employ him in your team.

Dr. Ratio’s Traces Breakdown

Once you get to know how Dr. Ratio deals against his enemies, the next step to understand how to build him is by analyzing his Traces. Overall, Dr. Ratio’s Traces maximize his Talent’s potency by either enhancing his attacking capabilities or by applying debuff toward his target. Aside from that, Dr. Ratio, like other characters before him, has minor Trace trees that can boost his stats, as you can see below:

  • 26% ATK Boost ( 2 + 4 + 6 + 6 + 8)
  • 12% CRIT Rate Boost (2.7 + 4 + 5.3)
  • 12.5% DEF Boost (5 + 7.5)

Now that we’ve seen Dr. Ratio’s minor Trace trees’ stat boosts, it’s time to discuss his Major Traces. When Dr. Ratio reaches Ascension 2, the first Major Trace, Summation, is unlockable for him. When Dr. Ratio uses his Skill, for every debuff on the target, his CRIT Rate increases by 2.5% and CRIT DMG by 5%. This effect can stack up to 6 time(s). Simple, deadly, and effective. Those words perfectly encapsulate this Trace, as Dr. Ratio can potentially go haywire against a single enemy thanks to the bonus CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.

The next Major Trace is Inference, arguably Dr. Ratio’s most important Trace due to its straightforward nature that enhances his Skill. When Skill is used to attack an enemy target, there is a 100% base chance to reduce the attacked target’s Effect RES by 10% for 2 turn(s). This means that Dr. Ratio’s Follow-up Attack’s fixed chance can increase from the base 40% chance to 60% after you use his Skill once, and for a character that revolves around Follow-up Attacks and debuff, that is massive.

Lastly, Dr. Ratio’s Ascension 6 Trace, Deduction, is another strong utility for Dr. Ratio as this Trace enables high DMG increase. When dealing DMG to a target that has 3 or more debuff(s), for each debuff the target has, the DMG dealt by Dr. Ratio to this target increases by 10%, up to a maximum increase of 50%. With this Trace unlocked, Dr. Ratio can easily kill most enemies in the game, except for the chunky bosses in Memory of Chaos or Pure Fiction.

Dr. Ratio Abilities Priority

Now that we are familiar with Dr. Ratio’s playbook and Traces alongside their effects, it’s time to discuss what abilities you should prioritize when building Dr. Ratio to help him reach his maximum potential.

  1. Cogito, Ergo Sum (Talent)
  2. Intellectual Midwifery (Skill)
  3. Syllogistic Paradox (Ultimate)
  4. Mind is Might (Basic ATK)

As we have discussed earlier, Dr. Ratio excels in Follow-up Attacks, and to reliably do so, he needs his Talent in top shape, which is why Dr. Ratio must prioritize upgrading his Talent to increase his damage output from his Follow-up Attacks

From there, we move on to his Skill and Ultimate, which are equally important to Dr. Ratio. His Skill, Intellectual Midwifery, will be your go-to option when using Dr. Ratio to deal damage against his enemies. As for his Ultimate, Syllogistic Paradox, the presence of Wiseman’s Folly also makes this ability his second source of damage output, so by upgrading Dr. Ratio’s Skill and Ultimate, you will simply increase his DPS capabilities to ensure that his target stays down.

Lastly, his Basic Attack is simply… too basic. There’s no Follow-up Attack mechanism like his Skill or Ultimate, nothing is going on here except for the fact that Dr. Ratio deals minor Imaginary DMG against a single target, which is nice, but you should always use his Skill anyway for the most part, so upgrading Mind is Might is not recommended.

Dr. Ratio’s Eidolons

After getting familiar with Dr. Ratio’s arsenal of abilities, we will now list all of Dr. Ratio’s Eidolons in Honkai: Star Rail. Eidolons can be acquired by pulling the same character multiple times from the Event Warp. To earn Dr. Ratio’s unique Eidolons, you need to have multiple copies of him from his Character Event Warp, “Panta Rhei”. Since you can get him for free, it might be a good investment to go for one of his Eidolons.

  1. Pride Comes Before a Fall: The maximum stackable count for the Trace Summation increases by 4. When a battle begins, immediately obtains 4 stacks of Summation. Needs to unlock Summation first.
  2. The Divine Is in the Details: When his Talent’s Follow-up Attack hits a target, for every debuff the target has, additionally deals Imaginary Additional DMG equal to 20% of Dr. Ratio’s ATK. This effect can be triggered for a maximum of 4 time(s) during each Follow-up Attack.
  3. Know Thyself: Ultimate Lv. +2 and Basic Attack Lv. +1.
  4. Ignorant Is Blight: When triggering the Talent, additionally regenerates 15 Energy for Dr. Ratio.
  5. Sic Itur Ad Astra: Skill Lv. +2 and Talent Lv. +2.
  6. Vincit Omnia Veritas: Additionally increases the triggerable count for Wiseman’s Folly by 1. The DMG dealt by the Talent’s Follow-up Attack attack increases by 50%.

The best Eidolon that Dr. Ratio has are his E1 and E2, as Dr. Ratio’s Eidolon 1 increases his Trace, Summation‘s effects by two folds. First, the stack count increases from 6 to 10, so potentially, you can gain up to 20% CRIT Rate and 50% CRIT DMG bonus thanks to this Eidolon’s effects. Moreover, at the start of the battle, Dr. Ratio automatically gains a 10% CRIT Rate and a 20% CRIT DMG bonus against debuffed enemies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ratio’s Eidolon 2 is simply amazing, as this Eidolon adds Imaginary DMG to his Skill’s Follow-up Attacks, so on top of the base Trace’s effects, he can dish out more damage toward his target as long as they have debuff effects on them. This Eidolon is the perfect stopgap for those who seek to splurge a bit for Dr. Ratio without spending too much money.

Dr. Ratio in Memory of Chaos (MoC) and Pure Fiction

After getting to know all of Dr. Ratio’s abilities, Eidolons, and Traces for building him, we will now see how well he fares against two end-game contents in Honkai: Star Rail: Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction.

In Memory of Chaos, he is one of the best single-target DPS in the game to use right now. This is thanks to his Follow-up Attack capabilities and synergy with many characters, especially those from Path of Nihility and Silver Wolf, the resident debuffer of Honkai: Star Rail. If you can utilize him in a team where everyone can help with his Talent requirement, then you should always try using Dr. Ratio whenever you can in Memory of Chaos.

However, for Pure Fiction, Dr. Ratio slightly falters off in effectiveness due to how the game mode’s nature, where dealing AoE damage is the key to getting full stars. Still, even though he’s not the best, if you can pair him with Topaz, Himeko, or Herta, alongside Silver Wolf and Huohuo, then his single-target nature won’t be too much of an issue as he can inflict Follow-up Attacks many times thanks to those characters’ abilities.

Overall, he is a solid and well-rounded character that can be used anywhere in Honkai: Star Rail, though in some parts he is lagging behind other characters, especially when compared to Destruction characters like Jingliu or Blade. But right now, he is one of the best single-target DPS in the game without question, making him the perfect Boss-killer if you still struggle against some of them.

Dr. Ratio’s Best Light Cones in Honkai: Star Rail

Best in Slot: Baptism of Pure Thought

When talking about what would be the best Light Cone for Dr. Ration you shouldn’t look further than his signature Light Cone, Baptism of Pure Thought (Path of The Hunt), as this Light Cone takes the crown. You can try and obtain Baptism of Pure Thought from the Light Cone Event Warp “Brilliant Fixation”, which is still ongoing in tandem with Dr. Ratio’s Character Event Warp. Since this Light Cone is a perfect fit for Dr. Ratio, the effects it has are perfect to complement his wonderful DPS potential as an Intelligentsia Guild member.

At level 80, Baptism of Pure Thought nets you 952 HP, 582 ATK, and 529 DEF to the holder. This Light Cone has one main Ability, Mental Training, and there are many benefits to unpack here. First of all, this Light Cone grants its user a 20% CRIT DMG Bonus, which Dr. Ratio can fully utilize, as his Traces also help him get a nice CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG bonuses. Moreover, for every debuff on the enemy target, the wearer’s CRIT DMG dealt against this target increases by 8%, stacking up to 3 times. When using Ultimate to attack the enemy target, the wearer receives the Disputation effect, which increases DMG dealt by 36% and enables their Follow-up Attacks to ignore 24% of the target’s DEF. This effect lasts for 2 turns.

Baptism of Pure Thought is the perfect fit for Dr. Ratio through and through, as the CRIT DMG Bonus, and more importantly, the Disputation effect greatly boost his Ultimate’s damage output and Follow-up Attacks, two main sources of Dr. Ratio’s damage capabilities.

Best Alternatives for Dr. Ratio’s Light Cones

Even though we’ve explained that Baptism of Pure Thought is Dr. Ratio’s best Light Cone, as a Path of The Hunt character, he has many backup options if you’re unable to pull for his Signature Light Cone.

Before we dive in, it should be worth mentioning that the recommendations will mainly be 4-Star in rarity, though we will include a 5-Star option that is earnable through free-to-play methods.

The best replacement Light Cones for Dr. Ratio in Honkai: Star Rail is Cruising in the Stellar Sea and Swordplay.

Cruising in the Stellar Sea Light Cone.

Cruising in the Stellar Sea Light Cone.

Light Cones Breakdown

Cruising in the Stellar Sea is a free-to-play 5-Star Light Cone that is obtainable through Herta’s Store in Simulated Universe. At level 80, it will give your characters 952 HP, 529 ATK, and 463 DEF. Its Ability, Chase, has several effects. Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 8%, and increases their CRIT Rate against enemies with HP less than or equal to 50% by an extra 8%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their ATK is increased by 20% for 2 turn(s). While this Light Cone doesn’t improve Dr. Ratio’s Follow-up Attacks, it still provides juicy CRIT Rate bonuses of up to 16%, and also increases his ATK whenever he defeats an enemy. Quite well-rounded, but nothing too flashy.

Moving on to the 4-Star option is the Swordplay Light Cone, a great free-to-play Path of The Hunt Light Cone that is great for Dr. Ratio, as its Ability, Answers of Their Own, provides 8% DMG dealt bonus and stacks up to 5 time(s). This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets. A great way for Dr. Ratio to continuously hammer down an enemy while increasing his damage over time.

Best Relics and Planar Ornaments for Dr. Ratio

Relics are arguably the most versatile part of any Honkai: Star Rail character build, which you can try matching two combinations that you see fit for that character. Moreover, every set has its unique effects and abilities that can shift a character’s potential. For Dr. Ratio’s build, we want to give him a Relic Set and Planar Ornaments that can enhance his Follow-up Attack capability as well enhancing his inherent damage.

With that in mind, the best Relic and Planar Ornament set for Dr. Ratio is either the 4-piece Wastelander of a Banditry Desert or 4-piece The Ashblazing Grand Duke alongside 2-piece Inert Salsotto or the 2-piece Firmament Frontline: Glamoth. Dr. Ratio is a character who can shine with two Relic Set and Planar Ornaments options, with the first Relic Set mainly enhancing his Imaginary DMG and CRIT Rate + CRIT DMG against debuffed enemies, while the latter option enhances his Follow-up Attack and ATK stat.

Combination Explanations

Now, I will briefly explain to you why these combinations are great for Dr. Ratio. The first combo involves Wastelander of Banditry Desert Relic Set and Inert Salsotto Planar Ornaments. Right off the gate, this combination gives Dr. Ratio a 10% Imaginary DMG boost, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG boosts, and his Ultimate and Follow-up Attacks also benefit greatly from Inert Salsotto. This combination ticks many boxes that are needed for Dr. Ratio, and when you combine them with good Relic stats, then you have one hell of a combination to make him a formidable character.

Meanwhile, the combination of The Ashblazing Grand Duke and Firmament Frontline: Glamoth also plays to Dr. Ratio’s inherent strength, which lies in his Talent and Ultimate’s effect, Wiseman’s Folly. Overall, he is a great character who can be flexible when it comes to his Relic Set and Planar Ornaments. You can mix-match the combinations listed here in case you don’t have the best sub-stats if you try to equip the 4-piece by using 2-piece Wastelander and 2-piece Ashblazing. The possibility is vast, just like what Dr. Ratio stands for.

Dr. Ratio’s Crucial Stats

Best Teams for Dr. Ratio in Honkai: Star Rail

Dr. Ratio Follow-up Attack Team

Though inherently a great The Hunt character, and arguably the current best single-target DPS unit, Dr. Ratio still needs other characters who can enhance his strength and capabilities, especially for his Follow-up Attack mechanism.

With that in mind, Dr. Ratio’s Follow-up Attack team includes Topaz, Silver Wolf, and Huohuo.

As mentioned time and time again, Dr. Ratio excels in a team where he can shine through the usage of his Skill, Ultimate, and Talent. Topaz and Silver Wolf can complement him in that matter; one character also uses Follow-up Attack, while the other one provides the much needed debuff for Dr. Ratio.

As for Huohuo, she can give Dr. Ratio extra Energy and can heal the whole team, something that is ever-precious in Honkai: Star Rail’s landscape.

With that in mind, Dr. Ratio’s F2P team consists of Pela, Yukong, and Lynx.

For the first character on this team, Yukong is a perfect free-to-play character to support Dr. Ratio, thanks to her abilities to provide him with CRIT DMG and ATK buffs. Meanwhile, Pela is another character who can provide debuff toward her enemies, with her Ultimate arguably one of the best sources of debuff right now in Honkai: Star Rail. Lastly, Lynx will keep the team safe and sound throughout the battle by providing healing powers and removing debuffs on her allies.
