Genshin Impact Wriothesley Build Guide | Wriothesley Best Weapon, Artifacts and Teams

The second phase of Genshin Impact Version 4.1 has begun, bringing with it another new 5-Star Catalyst, Wriothesley, the Duke of Fontaine’s mighty Fortress of Meropide. On several levels, Wriothesley is an incredibly important and exciting character. The main reason for this is that he is the very first Cryo Catalyst to join Genshin Impact, which is a weapon-element combination that Travelers have been thirsting for since the game first launched. What’s even better is that he has an incredibly unique playstyle, taking after Heizou as a CQC Catalyst who employs a boxer-like playstyle to dominate his foes in single combat. He is a super cool and important character, meaning that you’ll want to make the best Wriothesley build you can.

Here’s how to make the best Wriothesley build in Genshin Impact, which will include a look at Wrio’s entire kit and playstyle, what his best weapon is and what it does, what artifact sets you should run on him and what kind of premium or F2P teams he should be included in. If you’re not sure whether you should pull on Wriothesley, check out our article where we weigh the pros and cons between Wriothesley and Neuvillette to help you make up your mind.

Wriothesley Materials

  • Subdetection Unit (Fontaine Local Specialty)
  • Shivada Jade Sliver / Shivada Jade Fragment / Shivada Jade Chunk / Shivada Jade Gem (Cryo Elemental Gemstones)
  • Meshing Gear / Mechanical Spur Gear / Artificed Dynamic Gear (Enemy Drop Material)
  • Tourbillon Device (Fontaine World Boss Material)

Wriothesley’s first, and most annoying, material that you’ll need to collect is the Subdetection Unit, a new Fontaine speciality introduced in version 4.1. The Subdetection Units are small, beetle-like creatures made of metal and machine that will begin flashing different colours as you approach them. You’ll find the majority of these creatures in the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Engineering region and, in total, you’ll need to find 168 Subdetection Units to raise Wrio to level 90. If you want some additional help finding the little buggers, you can either use Lyney’s Passive Talent, which highlights nearby Fontaine specialities on the mini-map, or the Teyvat Interactive Map for exact locations for every Subdetection Unit on the map.

Aside from the bugs, there’s another material exclusive to Fontaine that Wriothesley needs. Across the lands of Fontaine stalk many different mechanical beings called Mekas and, to reach maximum Ascension level, Wriorthesley will need to rough up more than his fair share of machines. To be more specific, Wriothesley needs the Meka Gear series of enemy materials, 18 Meshing Gears, 30 Mechanical Spur Gears and 36 Artificed Dynamic Gears. To help you on your quest, you can either use the Teyvat Interactive Map again to track the Meka down or, if you want an in-game method, there’s the Adventurer’s Handbook which can let you track and mark a specific enemy type.

Ferocity Tamed

Ferocity Tamed

No list of Genshin Impact build materials is complete without a large helping of World Boss materials and Wriothesley’s list is no different. The World Boss you’ll need to battle for the Duke is Experimental Field Generator, a giant machine which sits abandoned inside the wreckage of the Fontaine Research Institute. As a Geo enemy, the Field Generator will blast massive waves of Geo across the entire arena that can only be avoided by jumping. The Field Generator drops the Tourbillon Device and, to reach level 90, Wriothesley will need to collect 46 Tourbillon Devices

Aside from the required Mora and EXP Books, the final set of materials Wrio needs is the Elemental Gemstone belonging to Cryo. Every single Genshin Impact character needs a certain amount of Elemental Gemstones which match the element of their Vision and, as a Cryo unit, Wriothesley needs the Shivada Jade Gemstone variant. You can get these most commonly from Cryo-aligned World Bosses like the Cryo Hypostasis, or through Daily Commissions. You can also upcycle or exchange lower rarity gems for higher ones at the Alchemy Table. Overall, Wriothesley needs 1 Jade Sliver, 9 Jade Fragments, 9 Jade Chunks and 6 Jade Gemstones

Lastly, as we mentioned, the final bit of preparation you need for ascending Wriothesley is to acquire the necessary Mora and EXP Books for him. You will need the equivalent of 420k Mora and 416 Hero’s Wit EXP Books if you want to take him all the way to level 90.

Genshin Impact Wriothesley Kit

Forceful Fists of Frost (Normal Attack)

As the first Cryo Catalyst user and the second CQC Catalyst to join Genshin Impact, Wriothesley has a lot of mechanical depth and power hiding behind the somewhat mundane appearance of his Normal Attack, Forceful Fists of Frost. Coalescing frost around his fist, Wriothesley will unleash powerful Repelling Fist attacks each time you hit the button, allowing him to perform up to 5 rapid attacks in a combo which all deal Cryo DMG. Additionally, holding the attack button will consume a fixed amount of Stamina and cause Wriothesley to leap into the air and unleash a Vaulting Fist, causing AoE Cryo DMG.

While not as flashy as some other Catalysts like Neuvillette, this is the beating heart of Wriothesley’s power and will need to be mastered by any hoping to use him most effectively. For starters, Wriothesley is the first character in Genshin Impact who can continue his current combo after sprinting or using his Skill, allowing you to continue your current chain of attacks after repositioning. Additionally, his close-quarters boxer playstyle is precise and measured, focusing on one-on-one engagements rather than the massive, sweeping attacks we see from most characters in modern Genshin Impact

These factors combine with his ability to instantly apply Cryo and allow Wriothesley to carve out a unique place in the current Genshin meta. In some ways, mastering Wriothesley is like figuring out the tech and capabilities of a fighting game character as you get into learning his rotations, when the best time to pop Vaulting Fist is and how he can interact most effectively with other elements. In short, Wriothesley’s Normal Attacks are the staple of his entire character.

Normal Attacks

Normal Attacks

Icefang Rush (Elemental Skill)

The other part of Wriothesley’s kit which makes him truly shine is his Elemental Skill, Icefang Rush. By adjusting his breathing, rhythm and pace, Wriothesley sprints forward a short distance before entering the Chilling Penalty state. This increases Wriothesley’s resistance to interruption and will cause him to consume a fixed amount of his own health whenever he uses a Repelling Fist Normal Attack while above 50% Max HP, massively increasing his Normal Attack DMG.

As an enhancing type Elemental Skill, Icefang Rush is going to be a core part of your rotations when using Wriothesley. The bonus damage increase from entering the Chilling Penalty state is reason enough to always try and have this active while Wriothesley is on the field, but even the health consumption part becomes a vital piece of the puzzle because it interacts with so many other parts of his kit (Passives, Constellations, etc.).

Of course, the health reduction side of the Skill does, undoubtedly, make him more risky to play, especially when you’ll need to get up close and personal to deal damage with his Normal Attacks. However, it’s simply another incredibly potent part of Wriothesley for you to master, one which will make him extremely strong once you’ve done so.

Darkgold Wolfbite (Elemental Burst)

The final part of Wriothesley’s main kit is Darkgold Wolfbite, his Elemental Burst. After activating his boxing gloves, Wriothesley strikes out with an icy straight, causing multiple instances of Cryo AoE DMG with Icicle Impact directly in front of him. Additionally, Wrio’s Burst is how he, as a Fontaine character, interacts with the Pneuma system, with a Surging Blade imbued with Ousia DMG descending on enemies after Icicle Impact ends.

Compared to the rest of his kit, Wriothesley’s Elemental Burst is a pretty standard attack which simply deals a massive chunk of damage. It’s his ability with the most overall coverage, making it his best bet for thinning out large groups, while retaining very high damage on single targets. Honestly, his Burst is pretty isolated from the rest of his tool set, meaning that you won’t have to worry about it messing up any of your rotations or timings: just hit the button and watch foes fall before you.

Wriothesley Passive Talents

Like all characters in Genshin Impact, Wriothesley has a suite of unique Passive Talents which, when unlocked at different Ascension Levels, will permanently alter or add different parts to his play style. Wriothesley’s first Passive, The Duke’s Grace, is available as soon as you pull him at level 1. Whenever Wriothesley crafts Weapon Ascension Materials, he has a 10% chance of receiving double the product. This is the exact same Passive that Albedo has and, despite being a bit mundane on the surface, will surely be a big help when it comes to building characters in the future.

The next Passive Talent Wriothesley will unlock is There Shall Be a Plea for Justice at Ascension Level 2. When Wriothesley’s HP falls below 60%, he will obtain a stack of Gracious Rebuke. This stack enhances his next Charged Attack into Rebuke: Vaulting Fist which will consume no Stamina, deal 50% increased DMG, and will restore 30% of Wriothesley’s Max HP on hit. As a frontline brawler whose Elemental Skill needs to constantly consume HP, this Passive is Wrriothesley’s way of staying mobile and aggressive even when he’s losing health, rewarding players who can time their hits just right for that big damage and healing payout.

Finally, there’s Wriothesley’s Ascension 4 Talent, There Shall Bew a Reckoning for Sin. When Wriothesley’s current HP increases or decreases while in the Chilling Penalty state awarded by Icefang Rush, he will gain one stack of Prosecution Edict which has a maximum of 5 stacks. Each stack will increase Wriothesley’s ATK by 6%. As we just mentioned, Wriothesley is going to constantly be losing and gaining health on account of his Skill and A2 Passive, meaning that you should have near-constant uptime on a significant ATK increase that isn’t hard to trigger at all. You simply get more damage for playing Wriothesley right.

Overall, Wriothesley’s combat Passives are actually very integral to his brawler, boxer playstyle. Without them, he cannot heal himself, thus losing a large portion of his self-sustaining capabilities, as well as losing a meaningful way of easily gaining an ATK boost. Wriothesley is very simple in terms of stats and investment, being one of the most straightforward damage dealers that Genshin Impact has seen in a while, so both of these elements – self-sustain and more damage – are both vital to keeping Wriothesley feeling strong, powerful and capable of standing alongside Genshin’s other heavy hitters.

The Duties of a Duke

The Duties of a Duke

Wriothesley Talent Priority Order

  1. Forceful Fists of Frost (Normal Attack)
  2. Icefang Rush (Elemental Skill)
  3. Darkgold Wolfbite (Elemental Burst)

As his primary source of damage, Wriothesley’s Normal Attack is going to be his highest priority Talent for levelling. On the simple end, Wriothesley is an NA-focused main attacker who will greatly benefit from further investment in his Normal Attacks as they will make him hit things harder. On a more complex end, Forceful Fists of Frost interacts with so many other abilities and parts of his kit that it should be strong at baseline so you bring up all of his abilities, especially when even his Skill piggybacks off his NA damage. Wriothesley’s Normal Attack should be your absolute priority when levelling up his Talents.

Secondly, we have Icefang Rush, Wriothesley’s Skill, and, honestly, there are some good arguments for why this could be the highest priority option. Investing in this Talent increases the Normal ATK damage boost you get from entering the Chilling Penalty state, potentially increasing Wrio’s damage by over 170%. At that point, one could argue that the power of his Normal Attacks isn’t as important, especially if you have the right stat distribution. However, because you need to have your Skill active to take advantage of it, we still recommend prioritising his Normals as they still feed into the Skill while remaining active at all times.

In last place is Darkgold Wolfbite. Wrio’s Burst isn’t a low priority because it’s bad – far from it, in fact, as it’s an incredibly high amount of instant Cryo DMG –  but because of that isolated element we discussed earlier. With his NAs and Skill feeding into and synergising off of one another, they’ll take up a lot more space in your rotations than his Burst ever will. Additionally, as a Burst, you’ll need energy to constantly fuel it, something you won’t need to worry about with either other option. Definitely do not ignore or neglect Wriothesley’s Burst, but don’t invest in it to the detriment of your other abilities.

Wriothesley Constellations

Next, we’ll be looking over all of Wriothesley’s Constellations. If you pull multiple of the same character through the various Event Wishes in Genshin Impact, you will receive that unit’s Constellations, granting them additional abilities and powers. To obtain Wriothesley’s Constellations, you’ll need to get lucky enough to pull multiple copies of him while his Limited Character Wish, Tempestuous Destiny, is still ongoing.

  1. Terror for the Evildoers: Wriothesley will now gain Gracious Rebuke stacks whenever he falls below 60% HP or when he lands the fifth attack of Repelling Fist while the Chilling Penalty state is active. The delay between gaining Gracious Rebuke stacks also decreases from 5s to 2.5s. Additionally, Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will have its DMG Bonus further increased to 200% and hits while Wriothesley is in the Chilling Penalty state extended the duration by 4s, with only 1 such extension capable of occurring per Chilling Penalty duration.
  2. Shackles for the Arrogant: When using Darkgold Wolfbite, each Prosecution Edict stack from There Shall Be a Reckoning for Sin will increase said ability’s DMG dealt by 40%.
  3. Punishment for the Frauds: Normal Attack Lv. +3
  4. Redemption for the Suffering: The HP restored to Wriothesley through Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will be increased to 50% of his Max HP. Additionally, when Wriothesley is healed, if the amount of healing overflows, the following effects will occur depending on whether he is on the field or not. If he is on the field, his ATK SPD will be increased by 20% for 4s. If he is off-field, all of your own party members’ ATK SPD will be increased by 10% for 6s. These two methods of increasing ATK SPD cannot stack.
  5. Mercy for the Wronged: Elemental Burst Lv. +3
  6. Esteem for the Innocent: The CRIT Rate of Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will be increased by 10%, and its CRIT DMG by 80%. When unleashed, it will also create an additional icicle that deals 100% of Rebuke: Vaulting Fist’s Base DMG as Cryo DMG. DMG dealt this way is regarded as Charged Attack DMG.

Wriothesley Best Weapons in Genshin

Best in Slot: Cashflow Supervision

A boxer like Wriothesley needs the best tools to work effectively and, without question, the best in slot weapon for Wriothesley in Genshin Impact is the Cashflow Supervision. This is Wrio’s signature weapon introduced alongside him in Version 4.1 and you can get it by pulling (and getting lucky) on the Weapon Event Wish while Wriothesley is still running on his own banner. As a weapon built with Wriothesley in mind, this Catalyst greatly boosts the most important parts of his kit while simultaneously making him more consistent and reliable as a main DPS.

At level 90, Cashflow Supervision will grant the wielder 674 ATK and 22.5% CRIT Rate alongside the weapon skill Golden Blood-Tide. The first part of this skill simply increases ATK by a further 16%, whereas the second half of the skill increases Normal Attack DMG by 16% and Charged Attack Damage by 14% whenever the user’s health increases or decreases. This effect stacks up to 4 times, with it granting 8% additional ATK SPD when you have 3 stacks or more.

Compared to most Genshin Impact weapons, Cashflow Supervision is a lot more like a stat stick, greatly increasing the wielder’s damage output without needing to micro-manage the buffs and effects. Wriothesley, as a basic main attacker who relies heavily on the ATK stat, will benefit greatly from the additional 16% ATK as well as the NA and Charged NA damage boosts: he won’t even have to worry about managing the stacks, either, as the act of simply attacking while under the Chilling Penalty state will cause his health to constantly fluctuate, continually generating new stacks. Another nice addition is that 22% CRIT Rate, allowing Wrio to commit entirely to a CRIT Damage main stat for even more damage.

Cashflow Supervision is, in the grand scheme of things, a pretty simple weapon from which you can get a massive amount of mileage out, perfectly fitting Wriothesley as a character and a fighter. If you’re willing to part with some Primogems to get this cute little robot, your Wriothesley will be eternally grateful for his massive DPS increase.

Replacement Wriothesley Weapons

But what if you don’t get lucky? What if you’re scrapping the bottom of the barrel for Primogems or saving up your hoard of remaining funds for Furina next patch? Well, you’re in luck as Wriothesley is one of the most versatile and simple units to outfit with a replacement weapon, especially in a weapon type as diverse as a Catalyst.

Before going any further, though, you should know that the only recommendations we’re about to make are for 4-star options. Undoubtedly, 5-star Catalysts like Skyward Atlas, Lost Prayer or Tulaytullah’s Remembrance will be a better option for Wriothesley but, due to their rarity, most players will be unlikely to have them. As such, we’ll be recommending the far more approachable 4-star options. However, if you’re lucky enough to have a 5-star Catalyst, definitely try it out on the Duke before committing to a lower-rarity option.

With that said, we recommend running Frostbearer, Ballad of the Boundless Blue or the Widsith for Wriothesley’s best replacement weapons.

Frostbearer, the Dragonspine Catalyst

Frostbearer, the Dragonspine Catalyst

First up is Frostbearer, an absolutely ancient weapon which has likely been collecting dust for many years. This weapon can be acquired by levelling up the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine, which was introduced all the way back in version 1.2.  At level 90, Frostbearer increases ATK by 507 and again by 41.35% with the substat, giving the user access to the weapon skill Forst Burial. Hitting an opponent with a Normal or Charged Attack has a 60% chance of forming and dropping an Everfrost Icicle on the, dealing AoE DMG equal to 80% of ATK, which increases to 200% if they are affected by Cryo. Before Wrio’s introduction, this weapon could never truly shine thanks to the absence of a Cryo Catalyst. Now, the massive ATK boost and Cryo-oriented weapon ability will make Wriothesley very strong and capable.

The second replacement option is the Ballad of the Boundless Blue, a new Catalyst which was also introduced in 4.1. You can nab this weapon, as well as its refinement materials, from the Waterborne Poetry event. At level 90, Ballad provides 564 ATK and 30.63 additional Energy Recharge, allowing the user to get their Burst back at a much faster pace. Azure Skies is the Ballad weapon skill. Within 6s of landing a Normal Attack or Charged Attack hit, Normal Attack DMG will increase by 8% and Charged Attack DMG will increase by 6%, with this effect capable of stacking up to 3 times. In a lot of ways, Ballad is a mini-F2P version of Cashflow Supervision, making it perfect for Wriothesley.

Lastly, we have the good old reliable Widsith. This 4-star Catalyst can be pulled from the gacha and it is the most basic option for any Catalyst DPS unit. At level 90, Widisth gives 510 ATK with an incredible CRIT DMG substat of 55.1%. Debut bestows the wielder with a random song whenever they take the field, granting them a different buff for 10s: it will either boost your ATK, Elemental DMG or Elemental Mastery. Wriothesley will be able to benefit from all three of those buffs, making Widsith a perfect pick if you just want to switch off your brain and watch the big numbers pop up on the screen.

Wriothesley Best Artifact Sets

Artifact choice is second only to weapon and team selection when it comes to making diverse builds in Genshin Impact. With so many sets and bonuses currently in the game, players can pick and choose from a whole host of different artifact combinations to shape their units however they want. For Wriothesley, you want pure damage above all else: if there’s a way to either directly boost his ATK or make him more consistent, you should go for that above all other options. With that path in mind, there are two key recommendations we can give for Wriothesley’s artifacts sets.

The first artifact set is a hybrid set which directly increases Wrio’s most important stats to achieve higher damage, playing into his straight-forward playstyle by not mixing in any other complicated buffs. For this Wriothesley build, run 2-piece Marechaussee Hunter and 2-piece Blizzard Strayer. The first set in question is the most important, with 2-piece Marechaussee increasing Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG by 15%. Meanwhile, Blizzard Strayer is one of the many Elemental DMG Bonus effects in Genshin, increasing Cryo DMG Bonus by 15%.

This artifact set-up is simple, clean and easy to follow, missing out on some of the more interesting artifact bonuses for raw additional damage. As a Cryo Catalyst focused almost entirely on Normal Attack DMG, Wriothesley will benefit massively from both of these stat boosts. They greatly increased his moment-to-moment damage output, with the 15% Cryo DMG Bonus even sneaking its way over to his Burst. If you’re looking for a set which is strong, consistent and doesn’t have any messy additional buffs or bonuses to track, definitely try this hybrid combination out for your Wriothesley build.

Marcechaussee Hunter and Blizzard Strayer

Marcechaussee Hunter and Blizzard Strayer

If you don’t mind getting a bit messy, though, and want something that will make Wriothesley more consistent across his entire kit, you should go with a full 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter set for Wriothesley’s best build. Alongside the previously mentioned 15% Normal and Charged Attack DMG increase, the full Marechaussee set will also grant you 12% CRIT Rate each time your current HP increases or decreases. This effect can stack up to 3 times for 36% extra CRIT Rate.

The power in this set rests in how it allows Wriothesley to play more consistently. As we’ve previously talked about, Wriothesley’s health will constantly be going up and down as he lands attacks while in the Chilling Penalty state, translating to near-constant uptime on that 36% CRIT Rate buff. This allows you to go whole-hog on CRIT DMG for your Circlet for more raw damage without worrying about having a low CRIT Rate, while still retaining a significant damage increase from the 2-piece bonus. Due to this set’s strength and the way it interacts perfectly with Wriothesley’s main playstyle, we highly recommend that most players hunt for 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter for their Wriothesley.

Most Important Wriothesley Main Stats and Substats

Of course, the artifact set bonuses aren’t worth much if the actual artifacts aren’t good themselves. Fortunately, Wriothesley is really basic in terms of stats and investment, requiring the most straightforward cocktail of main stats to be effective. As such, here are the main stats you should be looking for on Wriothesley’s artifacts:

  • Hourglass (Sands): ATK%
  • Goblet: Cryo DMG Bonus
  • Circelt: CRIT DMG / CRIT RATE

Meanwhile, while you’re farming for artifacts with the main stats you see above, you should also be keeping a lookout for any pieces that roll with Wriothesley’s preferred substats to further increase his power and damage output:

  1. ATK%
  2. CRIT DMG
  3. CRIT Rate
  4. Elemental Mastery

Best Teams for Wriothesley in Genshin Impact

Wriothesley Premium Melt Team

The best teams for Wriothesley are ones where he gets to remain in the spotlight and deliver as much damage as possible while his backup units make up for his shortcomings. Wriothesley’s playstyle is very one-on-one focused: while he can hit multiple targets in his NA combos, they have to be very close together. This is both his biggest strength and biggest weakness, one he can correct and build around in the right team composition. You’ll also want to bring a few buffing and supporting units that can greatly increase his overall damage output.

There’s one major Cryo Reaction which lets Wriothesley really shine and that’s Melt. As such, Nevuillette’s best premium team is a Melt team comprised of Xiangling, Bennett and Shenhe

Beginning with the only other Cryo character on the team, is Shenhe. Shenhe was already the best Cryo support in all of Genshin Impact but she feels perfectly made to synergise with Wriothesley. Her Skill massively increases Normal and Charged Attack DMG across the entire party, whereas her Burst further increases Cryo DMG in particular. When combined, Shenhe is capable of buffing every single part of Wriothesley’s kit to an insane degree, allowing him to surpass a lot of limits. Additionally, as another Cryo character, she gives this team access to the Cryo Resonance, boosting CRIT Rate against enemies affected by Cryo, which is very easy to pull off thanks to our Cryo Catalyst. Shenhe is the best pairing for Wrio in any team, hands down.

Melt Beast Xiangling

Melt Beast Xiangling

Of course, to make Melt you need to combine Cryo and Pyro so, on the opposite end of the heat spectrum, we have Xiangling. If you’ve been around for a while, you will know the sub-DPS potential of Xiangling. As one of the best Pyro characters in the game, Xiangling is capable of dealing incredible amounts of off-field damage with her Skill and Burst, with the latter being a perfect fit for Wriothesley’s close-range playstyle. If that wasn’t all, her A4 Talent causes her Skill to drop a chilli pepper when it ends which, when picked up, increases ATK by 10%, once again increasing Wrio’s damage by a massive amount.

Finally, we have the ever-reliable (and unlucky) Bennett. Just like Xiangling, Bennett has been a staple of most meta teams in Genshin for a long time on account of his superb buffing and healing abilities. In this team, his primary value comes from his Ultimate which grants a huge ATK boost to anyone standing within it. Thanks to Wriothesley’s precise boxer fighting style, he isn’t the most mobile character, preferring to stay pretty still when attacking, allowing him to get the most out of Bennett’s Burst. Another great reason to run both Bennett and Xiangling is that, together, they will provide the Pyro Resonance which increases ATK across the whole team by 20% and only makes Wriothesley even stronger.

Wriothesley Premium Melt Team

Wriothesley Premium Melt Team

Wriothesley Premium Freeze Team

If you want to go down a different path with Wriothesley, you can try a premium Freeze team instead of a Melt team. Instant Freeze was one of the most exciting possibilities when it came to a Cryo DPS, as you could combine instant Cryo and instant Hydro to essentially stun-lock most enemies. Now that Wriothesley is here, that dream can come true and, while you will lose out on some damage compared to a Melt team, it is undoubtedly super fun.

If you want to run Wriothesley’s best premium Freeze team, we recommend running him with Shenhe, Kazuha and Kokomi

Excellent Sub-DPS Kazuha

Excellent Sub-DPS Kazuha

Shenhe serves the exact same purpose in this team that she does in the premium Melt team, massively boosting Wriothesley’s damage potential with her Skill and Burst. As for the permafreeze exclusive units, we’ll start with Kaedehara Kazuha. As the sub-DPS star of too many teams, Kazuha needs no introduction as one of the best Anemo characters in the whole game. In this team, his role is to increase Wriothesley’s Elemental Burst DMG using his A4 Passive and Burst. This also lets Kazuha get off a bunch of Swirl Reactions for his own damage, making sure that nothing is left standing when you’re done.

Lastly, we have Kokomi as the team’s healer and source of Hydro for Freeze. There’s not much to be said here, really, as Kokomi is widely considered one of Genshin’s best healers, with her ability to instantly apply Hydro making this team a permafreeze nightmare. One thing about Kokomi (or Barbara, if you want a more F2P-friendly variant) is that you need to be careful with your heals: Wriothesley’s A4 Talent is an important part of his rotations and it will only trigger if he goes below 60% HP, something that might not happen if you’re too liberal with your heals.

Wriothesley Premium Freeze Team

Wriothesley Premium Freeze Team

Wriothesley F2P Team

Half of Wriothesley’s best premium team is comprised entirely of F2P characters, opening up the door for a similar F2P Melt composition. The only person we need to replace is Shenhe: while this is a pretty big blow because of how much she benefits and buffs Wrio specifically, there are several suitable replacements for free-to-play players. In fact, one 4-star unit fills Shenhe’s role very nicely.

The best F2P team for Wriothesley once again includes Xiangling and Bennett alongside newcomer Yun Jin

Normal ATK Buffer Yun Jin

Normal ATK Buffer, Yun Jin

So, why is Yun Jin so good and why is she a suitable replacement for Shenhe? The primary reason why Yun Jin is so good is down to her Burst. Cliffbreaker’s Banner, Yun Jin’s Burst, boosts the Normal Attack DMG of the entire team based on her DEF stat, with a further increase in damage based on how many different elements are present in the current team composition. This buff lasts for a long time and buffs Normal Attack significantly, confidently picking up the slack for the lack of Shenhe in this team. That’s alongside Yun Jin’s own combat abilities, where her Skill can be used as a last-minute shield if you need a moment to breathe.

As for our other two members, Xiangling and Bennett will continue performing the same actions they did in the premium team. Xiangling will remain as a key and potent off-field DPS who can supplement and continually provide Wriothesley with the Pyro he needs for Melt, whereas Bennett will be healing at key moments and supplying a massive ATK boost with his Burst. And, while this version of the team may be missing the Cryo Ressoance, it still has the Pyro Resonance for that sweet 20% extra ATK across the entire team, helping both Wrio and Xiangling to do their jobs more effectively.
