Tighnari is the first 5-star Dendro character to make their way to Genshin Impact. He is a Bow character who made his first appearance in Version 3.0 of Genshin Impact, with the addition of the Sumeru region.
Despite sharing some familiarities with other Bow characters, Tighnari stands out for his reaction potential and his strong Taunt capabilities. He is a very strong pick, especially for the Dendro-laden land of Sumeru.

Who is Genshin Impact’s Tighnari?
Tighnari is the head of the Forest Watchers in Sumeru. He takes charge of keeping watch over Sumeru’s rainforests, ensuring everything is kept in check. Tighnari also is in charge of training younger Forest Watchers like Collei.
While he may originally appear quite harsh and strict, he is a kind-hearted man who seeks to protect those around him. He is especially knowledgeable about plants and fauna around Sumeru and has received numerous requests to join the Akademiya – all of which he has declined.
How Do You Get Tighnari?
Tighnari is an interesting character in Genshin Impact. He is a 5-star character who (until Version 3.1) is only available on his banner. Once Version 3.1 hits, however, Tighnari will join the standard banner pool, allowing him to appear on any banner. He will join Qiqi, Jean, Diluc, Kequing and Mona.

Tighnari Level-Up Resources
Tighnari needs the following Ascension Materials to level up:
- Nilotpala Lotus
- Nagadus Emerald Gemstones (Dendro)
- Majestic Hooked Beak
- Fungal Spores
Nilotpala Lotuses are Sumeru native plants which grow on large bodies of water. Tighnari will need 168 Nilotpala Lotus to ascend from level 1 to level 90. Genshin Impact Interactive Map has a full list of where to find these plants for your Tighnari. If you already have Tighnari, you can use his passive talent to see Sumeru plants on the mini-map.
Fungal Spores are the enemy materials dropped by the new Mushroom enemies. These first appeared briefly in The Chasm but have made their full appearance in Sumeru. There are many enemies around, so use your Adventurer’s Handbook to find them around Sumeru. You will need 18 Fungal Spores, 30 Luminescent Pollen and 36 Crystalline Cyst Dust.
Majestic Hooked Beaks are the new boss material dropped by the Jadeploom Terrorshroom. This is a big raptor-like Fungal monster found to the North of Sumeru. Pyro characters are especially useful here. You will need 46 Majestic Hooked Peaks to ascend Tighnari.
Finally, there are the Nagadus Emerald Gemstones. These are the Dendro variant of elemental gems needed for Ascension. You will naturally get a lot of these by defeating the Jadeploom Terrorshroom. You’ll need 1 Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks and 6 Gemstones.
You will also need 416 Hero’s Wit EXP Books and 420k Mora to get Tighnari from level 1 to level 90.

Genshin Impact Tighnari Ability Overview
Tighnari is one of Genshin Impact’s Bow characters who focuses mainly on Charged Attacks. The unique way that Tighnari’s Charged Attacks work means that he is well suited to big, single-target DPS as well as Reaction heavy compositions.
His Normal Attack is called Khanda Barrier Buster. It is a 4-hit Normal attack combo, but the real magic is in the Charged Attack. You can hold it down for a moment to charge up to level 1 (which is the equivalent of a normal Charged arrow on other Bow characters) but if you continue holding it will go to level 2. Here, you will fire off a Wreath Arrow, dealing Dendro damage and splitting into 4 other Cluster arrows that track and detonate on impact. This is a very potent and strong ability that synergises with many reactions.
Level 2 Charge
Tighanri’s Elemental Burst is Vijina-Phala Mine. This is a Taunt ability similar to Mona and Amber’s Elemental Skills. Unlike theirs, though, Tighnari spawns an AoE on a nearby target. Enemies inside that AoE will begin attacking at random, under the spell of an illusion. While the Skill is active, Tighnari will charge his Wreath arrows much faster and this will last until the skill ends or until 3 arrows have been fired.
Elemental Skill
Finally, his Elemental Burst is Fashioner’s Tanglevine Shaft. This attack fires off 6 Cluster arrows that all track nearby targets and explode into Dendro DMG. After the initial hit, these arrows in turn create more Tanglevine Shafts that also track and explode on targets. When paired with the right Reactions, this attack can be very, very deadly.
Elemental Burst
His passive is Encyclopedic Knowledge which gives him the ability to see Sumeru specialities on the mini-map, much like Klee or Qiqi. Tighnari’s Ascension passive, Keen Sight, is also worth calling out as it increases his EM by 50 points after he fires a Charged Attack arrow.
Overall, Tighnari is a great pick with a lot of raw DPS potential. If you put him in a team with an Electro character or some other powerful Dendro Reaction, he can perform even better thanks to the beneficial additions from things like Quicken.
Talent Priority
The order that you should prioritise levelling up Tighnari’s talents should probably be:
- Normal Attack Khanda Barrier Breaker: Tighnari will perform most of his damage through Charged Attacks. Add onto this that he can deal a lot of extra damage through his Reactions and that this will be the way to activate skills such as Keen Sight and Normal Attacks should be the main focus.
- Fashioner’s Tanglevine Shaft: as far as Bursts go, Tighnari’s deals very good damage. Add on the Reaction potential from all that Dendro damage and you have the potential for some great and very high damage. His Normal Attack is more important, but this is a great second option.
- Vijina-Phala Mine: this skill is great but not for its damage. The Taunt effect is still great even without high investment, and the skill doesn’t do much damage in the first place so focusing highly on it doesn’t make much sense.
Best Weapon
Tighnari has a couple of good options for a Bow character who is made for charged attacks. A lot of this coincides with other charged attack characters such as Ganyu.
The Ideal Choice
The absolute best choice of Tighnari is his signature bow The Hunter’s Path.
The Hunter’s Path
This is a 5-star bow that is available on rate-up alongside Tighnari himself. The bonus stat is CRIT Rate up to a maximum of 44%. The skill on the weapon increases all Elemental Damage by 12%and it also gives you the Tireless Hunt buff when hitting an enemy with a Charged Attack. When under the effect of this buff, this will increase Charged Attack damage by 160% of Tighnari’s Elemental Mastery. This effect is removed every 10s or after 12 Charged Attacks.
This is excellent for Tighnari as you will be stacking bonus EM regardless because of his Dendro nature. In addition, the bonus CRIT Rate is excellent for a Bow character, especially one whose Charged Attack fires multiple arrows like Tighnari. Overall, everything on this Bow is built to make Tighnari shine so if you are lucky enough to have both him and The Hunter’s Path, be sure to stick it on him.
Replacement Options
If you aren’t so lucky, however, there are a handful of replacement options, too.
All of the following examples will be 4-star weapons. If you happen to have a 5-star weapon that isn’t The Hunter’s Path such as the Aqua Simulacra, then try that first. Most 5-star weapons will outperform any 4-star weapon due to their stronger stats and abilities.
The 3 replacement options for Tighanri are The Viridescent Hunt, Prototype Crescent and The Stringless.
The Viridescent Hunt is the Battle Pass Bow which you unlock at level 30. It grants a CRIT Rate substat (like The Hunter’s Path) and its ability has a 50% chance to generate a cyclone on Normal or Charged Attack hit which deals 40% of ATK for 4s. This is a good ATK-centric option for Tighnari, as you will be focusing heavily on his Charged Attacks as the Main DPS so any extra damage is welcome.
The Viridescent Hunt
Prototype Crescent is the best free-to-play option for Tighnari and is craftable from the blacksmith. It has an ATK substat, making it good for Main DPS Tighnari. The weapon’s skill increase movement speed and ATK by 10% and 36% respectively after hitting a weak point. Once again, as a Charged Attack-focused character hitting weak points is very important for both damage and upkeep, so even more damage will never go amiss.
Finally, The Stringless focuses on a different part of Tighnari’s kit. It boosts Elemental Mastery (good for any Dendro character) and increases both Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG by 24%. Tighnari’s Skill is a great way to Taunt enemies, but his Burst can deal insanely high damage when paired with the right effects and reactions such as Aggravate and Quicken. Stringless boosts that already high damage.
The Stringless
Best Artifact Set for Tighnari
The best Genshin Impact artifact sets for Tighnari are pretty straightforward. There are only 3 suitable options.
- 2-Piece Deepwood Memories and 2-Piece Gilded Dreams / 2-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe
These are the two new artifact sets introduced with Sumeru and both work wonders on Tighnari. The two-piece Deepwood set increases Dendro Damage by 15% and the two-piece Gilded increases Elemental Mastery by 80 points. Gilded Dreams can be substituted for Wanderer’s Troupe as they do cover the same effects. Together they make Tighnari a very potent attacker without much need for any additional or complicated effects.
2. 4-Piece Deepwood Memories
This set is another great buff for Tighnari, but it requires a little more follow-through than the previous set. Alongside the 15% Dendro bonus from a two-piece, after hitting a target with Elemental Skills or Bursts, the targets’ Dendro RES will be decreased by 30% for 8s. If Tighnari is your main DPS unit, most of your damage will be Dendro so decreasing Dendro RES on enemies is a massive boon.
3. 4-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe
If you want to focus more on raw DPS, the four-piece Wanderer’s Troupe is the way to go. The four-piece bonus here increased Charged Attack damage by 35% on a Catalyst or Bow. For Tighnari this should boost his already good Charged Attack damage even higher, allowing for him to work even better as the main DPS.
Artifacts
Main Stats You Need
The main stats that you will want for Tighnari, they are:
- ATK
- Elemental Mastery
- CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
As the main DPS, Tighnari’s high ATK is very important. As such, making sure he has a few pieces that buff his ATK will massively increase your damage output
Elemental Mastery is a very important stat on all Dendro characters, but it’s even more crucial on Tighnari. His passive Scholarly Blade increases his damage by 0.06% for each point of EM he has. Having more EM just means even more damage for Tighnari, as well as a massive boost to his Elemental Reactions like Quicken and Aggravate.
Finally, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are always good. Tighnari will always want more CRIT Rate because he fires a lot of arrows with his Charged Attack, meaning that he will deal high damage on average with CRIT Rate. Both are very good though.
If you can, get a good Dendro DMG bonus goblet to increase his Charged Attack and Elemental Burst DMG. This is a staple part of his kit and works alongside Tighnari’s Ascension stat, which is Dendro DMG.
Best Team Compositions
Tighnari wants to be the main DPS unit of the team, but whether you focus on high raw DPS or Reaction focused DPS is up to you. This will also include a budget team which doesn’t require any gacha pulls and focuses only on free-to-earn characters.
Main DPS Team 1
The first team consists of Tighnari, Yae Miko, Shinobu and Zhongli.
Main DPS 1
In this team, Tighnari focuses on using the Electro generated by Yae Miko and Shinobu to get off Aggravate. Tighnari’s high damage on his own is great, but it’s better with the reactions given by Aggravate and Quicken.
Yae Miko is the nexty best part of this compisition. As a very good sub-DPS, her damage is a very nice addition to Tighnari’s but it also serves another purpose. By pairing these two together, Yae Miko’s Electro hits will continuously generate Aggravate which will lead to Quicken, buffing both of their damage outputs.
Shinobu provides the team with healing as well as continuous Electro damage through her Skill. While her damage isn’t great, she is good support especially for Tighnari considering that she works with Dendro.
Zhongli is here for survivability. His shield means that you can stay in the fight for longer with Tighnari, and his Burst is a great big burst of damage on enemies – petrifying them can help Tighnari land his Charged Shots too.
Main DPS Team 2
The second team consists of Tighnari, Collei, Fischl and Bennett.
Main DPS 2
This team makes use of the Dendro team resonance alongside a similar Quicken/Aggravate strategy as the first team, but with a bit of extra utility. Tighnari continues to be the main DPS and he will continue to utilise Quicken, Aggravate and Spread.
Collei allows our team access to the Dendro Elemental Resonance. This increases EM by 50 and you will get a percentile Elemental Mastery bonus depending on what Dendro reaction you perform. Also, Collei can deal some very nice off-field damage, making Tighnari’s damage output even better.
Fischl serves as the Electro applicator but also a sub-DPS. Like Yae Miko in the previous team, Fischl will do a lot of great damage alongside giving Tighnari and Collei access to Dendro’s reactions. She gets even better if you get her at C6, which makes Oz attack alongside your current character. Fischl could be switched out for another Electro character like Yae Miko if you prefer.
Bennett does what he does best: heal and give a damage boost. His Burst will boost your ATK while you’re stood in it as well as continuously heal you, keeping you tip-top while you fight. In addition, Pyro reacts with Dendro to cause Burn so if you happen to trigger it, this will do even more damage.
This team is a lot more straightforward with buffs and bonuses augmenting Tighnari’s damage a lot. He can trigger reactions from Collei, Bennett and Fischl but most of his damage will come from himself and the buffs he gets.
Budget Team
The budget team consist of Tighnari, Lisa, Traveller (Dendro) and Barbara.
Tighnari Budget Team
Just like with Collei, Dendro Traveller gives the team the Dendro Resonance, boosting Tighnari’s Elemental Mastery and his reaction damage by a big amount. Traveller themselves is also a great damage dealer with an instant Dendro applicator in their Skill and a large AoE in their Burst. Both are strong tools to use alongside Tighnari.
Lisa can use her position as a Catalyst to instantly cause Dendro reactions. Her Burst is a fire-and-forget kind of ultimate, too, acting as a decent substitute for characters like Yae Miko or Fischl.
Barbara is our healer and she too can cause Dendro reactions, specifically Bloom. This gives your team access to Dendro Seeds which can trigger other reactions like Hyperbloom for bonus damage. In this team, Barbara can keep your team healthy and give it the ability for more damage.
Every team that Tighnari is in revolves very heavily around improving his damage and allowing him to shine. While not as strong as other teams, this budget team is still very good and will take you far with the main DPS Tighnari.
