Who Is Kaedehara Kazuha?

‘A wandering samurai who has left his homeland.’ Kaedehara Kazuha Official Bio

Kaedehara Kazuha is a native of Inazuma who you first meet in the prelude to the Inazuma arc of Genshin Impact’s main story. He is a wandering samurai, one who escaped his homeland after being labelled a criminal by the Tenryou Commission.

Now he is a part of Captain Beidou’s crew on The Crux, which is where the Traveller and Paimon first meet him.

Kazuha plays a very important part in a lot of Inazuma’s affairs, including the main Archon quest and important event quests such as the Ittidori Festival or the Summer Odyssey Event. He is a soft-spoken individual, one holding onto a lot of regret and sadness for times past.

How Do You Get Kaedehara Kazuha?

Kaedehara Kazuha is a 5-star Event Wish character, meaning that he can only be pulled for during his own Event Banner using Primogems.

So far, Kazuha has only appeared twice, once on his initial run in Version 1.6 and once more during the start of Version 2.8, with the latter also starring the newest 4-star Anemo character Heizou.

Kaedehara Kazuha Level Up Resources

In order to level up Kazuha, you the following Kazuha Ascension Materials:

  • Sea Ganoderma
  • Vayuda Turqoise Crystals (Anemo Crystals)
  • Treasure Hoarder Insignias
  • Marionette Cores

Sea Ganoderma can be found all over Inazuma, but they only spawn on beaches by the ocean. Kazuha will need 168 Sea Ganoderma to go from Level 1 to Level 90, so make sure to grab everyone you can. The map below is provided by Genshin Impact Interactive World Map and shows the spawn points of all Sea Ganoderma in Inazuma. If you need help finding the exact locations, using Gorou and his passive skill which shows Inazuman specialities does wonders.

Treasure Hoarder Insignias are found when defeating any type of Treasure Hoarder. These enemies settle all over Teyvat in all 3 available regions, so there are a lot of different areas to find and defeat them. Use the enemy tracking tool in your Adventurers Guide to track down each group of Treasure Hoarders to claim your prize. To get Kazuha from Level 1 to Level 90 you will need 18 Treasure Hoarder Insignias, 30 Silver Raven Insignias and 36 Golden Raven Insignia.

Marionette Cores are gained through completing the world boss Maguu Kenki. This boss is a massive puppet samurai who deals Anemo damage, splits himself into clones and has a massive face shield that will protect him against other attacks. Maguu Kenki can be found on Yashinori Island, the resting place of a giant serpent, where it will be alone in a patch of green grass surrounded by Dendrobium. Kazuha will need 46 Marionette Cores to get him to Level 90.

The other materials, the Vayuda Turquoise Gemstone, should come naturally from defeating Maguu Kenki and completing commissions. Like other crystals, you can trade three of one rarity for one of the next rarity (three white rarity crystals for one green rarity crystal for example). You can also use the Dust of Azoth in order to transform other crystal elements into Vayuda Turquoise Crystals if you need to. In total, you will need 1 Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks and 6 Gemstones.

In addition, like all characters in Genshin Impact, you will need 420K Mora and 415 Hero’s Wit EXP Books to get Kaedehara Kazuha to Level 90.

Kazuha Ability Overview

Kazuha is widely considered one of the best characters in the game, mainly due to how diverse and potent his kit is in almost any situation and how he doesn’t require constellations to perform well.

His basic attack is called Normal Attack: Garyuu Bladework and it is a 5-hit combo with rapid strikes, with his charged attack hitting for 2 attacks. While nothing all too special, his basic attack combo is capable of dealing decent damage at high ATK scores, which is one of the stats that many will focus on for Kazuha.

Kazuha’s Elemental Skill is called Chihayabaru. This is a move that can be either pressed or held, sending Kazuha rocketing into the air from a standing position, creating a small wind tunnel that launches opponents around him and deals Anemo AOE dmg upon launching. Kazuha can then descend into a powerful plunging attack, called Midare Ranzan, which transforms the damage dealt into Anemo damage, increases the plunging ATK damage and sucks surrounding enemies into a vortex when hitting the ground. If Chihayabaru is held, the Anemo damage is greater and over a larger AOE than simply pressing it, at the cost of a longer cool down (about 5s compared to 8s). This ability can also be performed mid-air or while gliding.

Chihayabaru Plunging Attack

Chihayabaru Plunging Attack

Finally, Kazuha’s Elemental Burst is called Kazuha Slash, which is a wide range AOE attack that deals Anemo damage and causes the Swirl reaction to occur as Kazuha deals a single slash in front of him. The special part about Kazuha’s Elemental Burst is that it has a unique attribute known as Elemental Absorption, where his Burst will absorb any other elemental type that he Swirls, such as Pyro, Hydro, Cryo or Electro. By absorbing the Element, the Burst will continue to output elemental damage of that type dealing more Swirl reaction damage over the 8-second Burst duration.

Overall, Kazuha just has a very solid and very potent crowd control kit, with near-constant uptime on something powerful each time you swap to him. As such, he can be slotted into any role, but if you were to prioritise his talents for levelling:

  1. Chihayabaru: This Skill is just too good not to focus on. The damage it can deal is absurd, dealing up to Xiao levels of plunging attack damage when Kazuha descends, paired with the Swirl application and vortex makes Kazuha this jack-of-all-trades combination of every Anemo archetype.
  2. Kazuha Slash: Much like his skill, Kazuha’s Burst is an amazing crowd control skill and reaction application tool. It deals good damage, recharges relatively quickly, and allows other characters to shine as opposed to Kazuha being a one-man show (which he can be if you want).
  3. Normal Attack: Simply put, the other two options are just better and more useful. Levelling Normal Attack isn’t bad per se, but it should most certainly be the final thing you level (although the Plunging Attack increase does help Chihayabaru’s damage output).

Kazuha’s talent materials are Guides/Teachings of Diligence, Treasure Hoarder Insignias and Gilded Scales (boss materials from the weekly boss Azdaha).

Best Weapons for Kazuha

Due to the fact that Kazuha can be built for both support and offensive easily, he has a multitude of weapons that suit his needs.

The Ideal Choice

The best in slot weapon for Kazuha, especially if he is going to be playing a largely supportive role in your team, is the Freedom-Sworn 5* Sword.

Freedom-Sworn has an ATK of 608 when fully levelled, alongside native Elemental Mastery scaling that increases as you Ascend the weapon, reaching 198 at Level 90. For every point of elemental mastery, Kazuha’s Swirl reactions will do more damage when they Swirl any different elements, which is something very easily achieved by his Elemental Burst and by Chihayabaru.

As for the main ability on the Freedom-Sworn, it increases all damage dealt by the user by 10%. In addition, when the character wielding this weapon triggers any form of Reaction (Swirl in the case of Kazuha specifically), they will gain a Sigil of Rebellion. Once two Sigils have been collected, the character receives a buff called Millennial Movement: Song of Resistance, which increase all normal attacks (normal, charged and plunging) by 16% and increases the character’s overall ATK by 20%.

Freedom-Sworn is just a great sword for any sword-wielding, but it is incredible on Kazuha due to his ability to quickly cause reactions with his Skill and Burst, and the extra damage earned from the Millennial Movement buff makes him a great sub-DPS and support. If you can get your hands on this sword, definitely put it on Kazuha.

Replacement Options

Not everyone will have the Freedom-Sworn sword, however, so here are some replacement options.

A good rule of thumb is that any 5* weapon is generally better on a character than a 4* one: this is due to the weapon’s unique effect (which is usually more powerful) as well as the high base damage of a 5* weapon at level 90. If you have any 5* swords, it is generally a good call to try them out as they may outperform any listed options.

Three main replacement swords are being used for Kazuha: The Sacrificial Sword, The Iron Sting and the brand new event weapon The Cursed Blade.

The Sacrificial Sword is a pretty basic, but highly effective offering suitable for both DPS and support roles. After using your Elemental Skill, there is a certain percentile chance {40/50/60/70/80 depending on refinement rank} that the skill will automatically be refunded. Kazuha’s Chihayabaru isn’t a skill with a super long cooldown, but having it immediately after using it again is a great boon that will continue to trigger reactions or massive damage with a plunging attack. The Sacrificial Sword can be earned from doing pulls on any Wish banner.

The Sacrificial Sword

The Sacrificial Sword

Meanwhile, The Iron Sting is a very good and very easily obtainable DPS-oriented weapon. Firstly, it increases Elemental Mastery like  Freedom-Sworn, allowing for big damage on Kazuha’s reactions. In addition to this, the main skill simply increases all damage by {6/7.5/9/10.5/12}% for 6 seconds after dealing Elemental Damage. This means that as long as you are keeping track of his Skill and Burst, Kazuha can have a constant damage buff to everything in his kit. What is even better is that The Iron Sting is a craftable weapon, which means that you do not need to go anywhere near the gacha to get your hands on it.

The Iron Sting

The Iron Sting

Finally, there is the newest offering, The Cursed Blade. Do note that this weapon will likely only be around for the duration of the 2.8 Version Update. The Cursed Blade increases ATK as its native substat, up to an additional 41%. The weapon’s ability is that dealing damage with any normal attack (normal, charged or plunging) will cause an AOE explosion equal to 180% of ATK and increase ATK by 16%. Pairing this with Kazuha’s boosted plunging attack after using his Elemental Skill, and Kazuha can have a very high damage output: his Anemo damage on skill cast, the bonus damage from the plunging attack, then the 180% burst of wind from The Cursed Blade will make Kazuha into even more of a DPS monster.

Best Artifact Set for Kazuha

The artifact sets for Kazuha are relatively simple.

  1. Four-Piece Viridescent Venerer

This is hands down the best set for Kazuha. The additional 15% Anemo damage increase is a very nice addition to his already damage heavy kit, but the 4-piece is what makes this set excellent. Firstly it increases Swirl damage by 60%, already an excellent choice for such a Swirl-heavy reaction character like Kazuha. Then Swirling enemies also lower their resistance to the element being Swirled, making Kazuha’s Burst deal even more damage as it becomes infused with whatever element it touches.

Four-Piece Viridescent Venerer is just too strong and if you can get your hands-on good stat rolls for 4 pieces, there is no way that you should put anything else on him.

2. Two-Piece Viridescent Venerer and TwoPiece Gladiator

While the above option is the most preferable, if you want a more pure ATK-oriented Kazuha (such as if he is going to be the main DPS and using his Normal Attack often) or if you are unlucky with artifact drops, then Two-Piece Gladiator is a great backup option. The extra 18% ATK increase on top of the 15% Anemo damage increase from Viridescent makes Kazuha hit really hard while retaining some potential for big Swirl damage.

However, as we said, if you have the option for FourPiece Viridescent, just put that on him: it’s literally the best thing for Kazuha.

Main Artifact Stats for Kazuha

The main stats you want to get for Kazuha are:

  • ATK
  • CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
  • Energy Recharge

Elemental Mastery can also be very useful, as it will increase the amount of damage dealt by Kazuha’s Swirl reactions, but each of these stats is just more useful.

ATK is important because it simply allows Kazuha to do a lot of damage. Many of his skills work off of pure ATK scaling, meaning that you want this to be as high as possible. Having one or two main stat Artifacts as ATK isn’t such a bad idea.

CRIT is useful on almost every character and Kazuha isn’t any different. Both Rate and DMG are obviously useful but are down to personal preference on whether you want to hit harder but less often, or slightly harder way more often. Both are good on Kazuha, who has big moves that can deal insane damage at high CRIT DMG (his enhanced plunging attack for example) or small and more consistent bursts of damage (such as in his Burst).

Energy Recharge means that Kazuha will be getting his Burst back way quicker, which is very good considering how game-changing it can be on a reaction front. Anemo characters already tend to make a lot of elemental orbs, but with high Energy, Recharge Kazuha can just keep going and going with his Burst, dealing massive damage and tons of reactions with very little of a break between.

On another note, due to the high amounts of elemental damage, Kazuha deals with his Elemental Burst and his Elemental Skill, picking a Goblet with Anemo DMG Bonus will drastically increase his damage. This is a given on characters who deal a lot of elemental damage, as the elemental DMG bonus from the goblets far surpasses anything else they could get.

Example Team Compositions for Kazuha

As previously stated, Kazuha works well in basically every kind of team composition due to his nature as a high damage dealer and Swirl applicator.

Here are some example teams to try out with Kazuha, including a Budget Team that does not require any pulls on the Gacha.

Sub DPS Kazuha

Team Comprising of: Kazuha, Yae Miko / Fischl, Hu Tao, Bennett / Jean.

Kazuha Sub-DPS Team

Kazuha Sub-DPS Team

In this team, Kazuha is the sub-DPS to Hu Tao, with his ability to cause Swirl on top of Hu Tao’s Pyro damage making him a great option to swap to while Hu Tao’s Skill is on cooldown. In addition, his Burst is great in this type of team comp because it has multiple options to Swirl and imbues, allowing Kazuha to work well even against enemies immune to Pyro or Electro.

As said, Hu Tao is our main DPS. She does most of the work while in her Skill, dealing very high damage with her charged attack and applying Pyro to enemies. When her skill runs out, switch to Kazuha for some nice chunky Swirl damage.

Yae Miko and Fischl are here both reactions and for off-field additional damage. With Miko, her fox talismans are capable of dealing out pretty high damage while she isn’t on the field, giving Hu Tao access to the Overload Reaction while in her Skill, and Kazuha access to an Electro source for his Swirl and Burst. Fischl provides a similar role with Oz applying Electro and dealing sustained damage throughout the fight. Overall, both work well and it is merely down to personal preference on who to pick.

Bennett and Jean both provide their own benefits to the team. Bennett gives another Pyro character, granting the whole party a bonus a 25% ATK bonus, as well as being a healer and support unit himself. With the bonus ATK and the extra ATK and healing from his Burst, Bennett puts a shot in the arm of the team damage-wise, useful more for raw DPS than actual healing. On the other hand, Jean is another Anemo character granting additional movement speed, stamina reduction and skill cooldown, allowing Hu Tao and Kazuha to go on more rampages. Also, her Burst is a great panic heal and Swirl applicator. Essentially, both Jean and Bennett fill similar enough roles, and it is down to personal preference.

This team revolves around doing massive damage with both the main and sub-DPS, popping several high-power reactions with off-the-field support as you go. Healing and additional damage are bonuses that can be provided, but the heart of the team is that back and forth between Kazuha and Hu Tao, constantly dishing out damage with the aid of their Electro companion.

Support Kazuha

Team Comprising of: Kazuha, Raiden Shogun, Yelan / Xingqui, Jean.

Kazuha Support Team

Kazuha Support Team

In this set-up, Kazuha does provide good damage as a backup, but his role is certainly more of a support.

Shogun acts as a constant source of Electro for Swirl, while also being our main DPS and battery. The Shogun can essentially do it all, with a super powerful Burst and Skill that shred enemies and generate tons of energy, something that she can continuously use with the aid of Kazuha’s reactions and Burst damage.

Yelan and Xingqui may seem odd at first, but they do have a place. Firstly, their Hydro nature allows for some very easy Super-Conduct application alongside the Shogun. Yelan specifically works very well as a sub-DPS, bounding in to do her strings and explode enemies in Hydro before disappearing, allowing for Shogun to swoop in or for Kazuha to cause a massive amount of Swirl. Xingqui, on the other hand, provides bonuses to healing with his water swords, but also another bonus to damage and a source of Elemental energy for Kazuha’s Burst.

Jean can honestly be subbed out for just about anyone if you decide to use Xingqui, but she is here as a healer in case you aren’t using him. The Anemo bonus of extra movement speed, stamina consumption decrease and cooldown reduction all still apply, letting everyone from Yelan to Kazuha cause more and more damage without the risk of death thanks to her heals.

This team comp is certainly heavily revolving around Shogun as the main DPS carry, with Kazuha and Yelan bringing up a joined rear as sub-DPS supports. Kazuha can provide great damage and utility with his Swirl and vacuum that sucks in enemies and launches them, whereas Yelan’s sneaky Skill allows for big damage, Hydro application and positioning potential. Jean or Xinqui provide a nice backup for healing, as well as nice bonuses whether that be in extra raw ATK or the Anemo resonant bonuses.

Budget Team

Team Comprising of: Kazuha, Xiangling, Amber, Xingqui / Barbara.

Kazuha Budget Team

Kazuha Budget Team

This team uses characters that all players should be able to get without the need to turn to the Gacha, making this a relatively safe choice if you don’t have many options.

Here, Kazuha is the star of the show as the main DPS. His Swirl application can be applied through any of his ally’s abilities with Pyro or Hydro, and he will get a good stream of recharge to his Burst through quickly swapping to them while he is on cooldown. He also can deal pretty decent damage with his Normal Attacks once all the buffs from the other party members have been applied.

Xiangling is our sub-DPS, filling in for Kazuha when he needs a moment or for a quick and reliable Pyro damage source. Her Skill is useful for baiting enemies into Kazuha’s Skill, and her Burst deals very respectable damage paired with its ability to do a myriad of reactions.

Amber is here as a ranged option when a bow is required, as well to give us the 25% ATK increase from having 2 Pyro characters. Additionally, Baron Bunny serves as a great distraction tool to allow Kazuha to launch a large group of enemies, as Amber’s Skill taunts enemies.

Xingqui is preferable to Barbara as he is capable of more by healing and buffing attacks, but Barbara is a good choice simply as a reliable healer when compared to Bennett. She also serves a great role in applying Hydro to a target quickly as a Catalyst user. Overall, the Hydro characters serve as a nice additional statement, another reaction to add to the pile for Kazuha and for additionally applying Vapourise alongside the Swirl and damage bonuses.

Despite being a budget team, it is still very potent with Kazuha at the head. He can benefit from so many buffs and bonuses from his allies off-field that it only continues to make him a demon while he is on it, with great potential for Swirl and reactions, great damage from himself and Xingqui’s buffs, and a reliable source of healing for if he ever gets hit… which he likely won’t, as he will take an enemy off its feet before they get to him.
