Genshin Impact Childe Best Build Guide

Today, we will discuss the best builds guide for Childe, the Eleventh of the Fatui Harbingers, including his best weapons, his best team compositions, and artifacts.

Childe is a high-ranking 5-star character that comes from Snezhnaya. He currently resides in Liyue for his missions, however, we might come across him on other occasions, which Genshin Impact players must be ready for.

His role on the team is the Main DPS role. Not just that, but he also brings a unique way of gameplay, since his Elemental Skill allows him to switch between Bow and Sword stance. Let’s begin.

Who is Childe from Genshin Impact?

Childe is a 5-star character, and he’s the newest addition to the Fatui Harbingers, being their 11th, with Tartaglia as his name.

Your brother has just been taking care of some trivial matters here, really. But Tonia, rest assured… The future the Tsaritsa desires… The future the people of Snezhnaya desire… It will be had.

Childe: A Letter to Snezhnaya

Childe is battle hungry and physically strong, to the point where he was recruited into the Fatui Harbingers. Nevertheless, he also has a soft spot for his younger brother and is also a lovely person to hang out with… unless you are on his bad side.

How to Get Childe

Since Childe is a unique 5-star character, he can only appear on the Event Wish Banner. Unfortunately, that also means that he’s unavailable outside of his banners.

Ever since his appearance back in Version 1.1, Childe has been featured four times:

  • Farewell of Snezhnaya (Childe’s Banner, first iteration): November 11, 2020 – December 1, 2020.
  • Farewell of Snezhnaya (Childe’s Banner, second iteration): April 6, 2021 – April 27, 2021.
  • Farewell of Snezhnaya (Childe’s Banner, third iteration): October 13, 2021 – November 2, 2021.
  • Farewell of Snezhnaya (Childe’s Banner, fourth iteration): November 18, 2022 – December 6, 2022.

Childe Level-Up Resources

To build your Childe to Level 90, you must prepare these Ascension Materials:

  • Varunada Lazurite (Hydro)
  • Starconch (Liyue Specialty)
  • Fatui Insignias (Enemy Drop)
  • Cleansing Heart (World Boss)

Varunada Lazurite is the gemstone crucial for Childe’s ascension. Lazurite is the Hydro variant of the Gemstone, and you usually find them after you defeat Hydro-based Bosses, such as the Oceanid, the Hydro Hypostasis, and one of the Weekly Bosses, Scaramouche. In total, Childe will need 1 Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks, and 6 Gemstones.

For Childe’s next material, we have Starconch. This conch is part of Liyue’s specialty, and you can find them in the Yaoguang Shoal area. Moreover, an NPC in Liyue Harbor, Bolai, also sells this conch, and you can buy 5 Starconch every 3 days from him. To level up your Childe to 90, you’ll need a minimum of 168 Starconches. The Teyvat Interactive Map can help you locate Starconch faster.

Moving on to the next material, we have Fatui Insignias, which you can get from most of the Fatui enemy variants, like the Fatui Pyro Agent, the Fatui Skirmisher – Anemoboxer Vanguard, and the Fatui Cicin Mage. Overall, Childe needs 18 Recruit’s Insignias, 30 Sergeant’s Insignias, and 36 Lieutenant’s Insignias.

And lastly, we have the Cleansing Heart. This is a World Boss material that you can earn from the Oceanid in Liyue. You can find this boss in the Wuwang Hill area, near the Qingce Village. This boss does not fight you directly, however, they use water projections to attack you. It’s recommended to bring Pyro and Electro characters when you tackle this World Boss. You will need 46 Cleansing Heart for Childe to raise him to Level 90.

As always, you’ll need to prepare 420 Thousand Mora and 416 Hero’s Wit EXP Books to fully ascend your Childe.

Childe’s Abilities Overview

As a Hydro Bow character, Childe relies on his ranged attacks and melee stances to take down his enemies. Childe’s role for the team is a Main DPS, where he’s the one who deals the most pain against the enemies.

His Normal Attack is called Cutting Torrent, where he unleashes 6 consecutive attacks with his bow. And his Charged Attack allows him to deal Hydro DMG and apply the Riptide status, which is an effect unique to Childe.

Normal Attack.

Childe’s Elemental Skill is Foul Legacy: Raging Tide. This skill enables Childe to switch to melee weaponry made of pure water, dealing Hydro DMG to surrounding enemies.

While Childe uses his Elemental Skill, he has 30 seconds window to unleash his might. If he slashes enemies who have the Riptide effect, Childe unleashes a Riptide Slash that deals AoE Hydro DMG. DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Skill DMG, and can only occur once every 1.5s.

Finally, we have Childe’s Elemental Burst, Havoc: Obliteration. Depending on his stance, his Burst will have two different versions: Flash of Havoc for the Ranged stance and Light of Obliteration for the Melee stance.

When the obliterating waters hit an opponent affected by Riptide, it clears their Riptide status and triggers a Hydro Explosion that deals AoE Hydro DMG.
DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Burst DMG.

Childe’s Passives

As for Childe’s Passive abilities, he has the following:

  • Never Ending gives more duration to Childe’s Riptide effect, by 8 seconds.
  • Sword of Torrents makes it so that when Childe is in the Melee stance of Foul Legacy: Raging Tide, when he deals CRIT hit, Normal and Charged Attacks of Childe apply the Riptide status effects to opponents.
  • Master of Weaponry grants 1 bonus level to all party members’ Normal Attack. Childe needs to be in your current active party for this effect to apply.

Talent Priority

After you get to know Childe’s set of skills, it’s time to look at the priority you should go for regarding his Talents:

  1. Foul Legacy: Raging Tide: Childe’s main source of damage and presence. Leveling up this Talent is crucial so that your Childe can have more flexibility about his Elemental Skill usage.
  2. Havoc: Obliteration: Childe’s Elemental Burst serves as insurance after you’re dealing damage with his Elemental Skill and after rotating with other characters.
  3. Cutting Torrent: Childe is not dependent on his Normal Attack since he dishes damage through his Elemental Skill and Burst, so you should prioritize the other two Talents first before leveling this one up.

Childe’s Ascension Materials are Freedom Series (Teachings of Freedom, Guide to Freedom, and Philosophies of Freedom), Fatui Insignias, and Shard of a Foul Legacy (Childe/Enter the Golden House Weekly Boss material).

Best Weapons

Now that you know Childe’s talents and role, it’s time to talk about his builds. As a main DPS Bow user, Childe can use several weapons.

The Ideal Choice

The best weapon choice for Childe is the Polar Star bow.

Polar Star is a 5-star bow that you can get from Epitome Invocation Wish. This weapon increases the CRIT Rate by 33.1% and has 608 ATK at Level 90. The weapon has a unique skill named Daylight’s Augury, which increases the user’s Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG by 12%, as well as increasing the user’s ATK when certain conditions are met.

This weapon suits Childe well since the bonuses to the Elemental Skill and Burst will give Childe a great edge in battles. Not to mention, an ATK bonus when Childe hits his enemies is a cherry on top, perfect for your Childe build.

Substitute Options

What if you don’t have Polar Star? Don’t worry! Childe has many substitute weapons for his build in Genshin Impact.

Although Polar Star is his Best in Slot weapon, others can replace the bow, such as Thundering Pulse and The Stringless.

Thundering Pulse is a 5-star bow that you can get from Epitome Invocation Wish, just like Polar Star. It gives 66.2% CRIT DMG and has 608 ATK at Level 90, making it a great weapon for Childe thanks to its substantial CRIT DMG bonus. The weapon’s unique skill is Rule by Thunder, which grants the user a 20% ATK bonus, as well as an additional Normal Attack DMG bonus if certain conditions are met.

Another pick for your Childe build is The Stringless, a 4-star bow you can obtain from gacha. It provides Elemental Mastery as its substat, as well as the unique skill Arrowless Song. The bow’s skill increases Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG by 24%. This is also a great bow for Childe, who needs his Elemental Skill and Burst DMG as big as he can.

Best Artifact for Childe

When it comes to Childe, his artifact choices are quite diverse. However, there’s one Artifact Set that suits him the most: Heart of Depth.

Childe can utilize this set’s bonuses well. For starters, Heart of Depth’s 2-piece bonus will net him a 15% Hydro DMG Bonus, giving his arsenal more damage.

For the 4-piece bonus, Heart of Depth increases Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG by 30% for 15s after the equipping character unleashes their Elemental Skill. This synergizes well with Childe since he’s a character who needs his Skill most of the time. Not only that, since Foul Legacy: Raging Tide’s Melee Stance is considered a Normal Attack, the 4-piece bonus gives him ample damage to help finish off his enemies faster.

Overall, the Heart of Depth artifact set gives the best payout to your Childe build. However, if you’re looking for alternative sets for him, then go for 2-piece Heart of Depth and 2-piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, which grants a 15% Hydro DMG Bonus and an 18% ATK Bonus for Childe.

Desirable Stats

To make Childe someone befits his title as the Eleventh of the Harbingers, here are the stats you must look out for when creating a build for Childe:

  • CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
  • Hydro DMG
  • ATK%

As the main DPS, Childe must have a great amount of CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG. You should aim for a minimum 55%/150% ratio of CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG for your Childe. To help with this objective, you must have one of these stats as your main stat in the Circlet artifact.

The next stat that’s also important for Childe is Hydro DMG. This stat is also crucial since Childe dishes out his damage as Hydro DMG most of the time, through his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.

And last, but not least, try to find as much ATK% as you can for Childe’s artifacts. While the other two take priority over this stat, as the main DPS, Childe also needs a high ATK stat to truly shine on the battlefield.

Best Childe Team Compositions

These team compositions will have Childe as the main DPS for the team. We will provide several team options, and one of them will be a Budget Team, which is a F2P-friendly team (of course, Childe excluded).

Intergrassional Team

This team consists of Childe, Nahida, Bennett, and Xiangling.

Nahida will act as a Support and Dendro applier for this team. Her Elemental Skill, All Schemes to Know, is amazing to apply Dendro to the enemies, and her Elemental Burst, Illusory Heart, can grant the active character 25% of the Elemental Mastery of the party member with the highest Elemental Mastery, giving Childe bonus damage when he triggers Bloom reaction.

Next up, we have Bennett. He’s acting as a Support that can heal up your characters, as well as giving bonus ATK when standing inside his Elemental Burst, Fantastic Voyage.

And then, we have Xiangling. She’s here as a Sub-DPS and Pyro applier for the team. Thanks to her Elemental Burst, Pyronado, there will be enough Pyro presence on-field for Childe to enjoy.

Lastly, Childe will be the spearhead of this team. With the other three characters to support him, Childe can unleash his might on-field easily, since he can also deal Vaporize or Bloom reactions.

Freeze Team

This team consists of Childe, Yelan, Rosaria, and Kaeya.

For this team, Kaeya and Rosaria will act as Cryo Supports and appliers, thanks to their Elemental Bursts, Rites of Termination, and Glacial Waltz, respectively. These two are important since Childe relies on them so that he can trigger a Frozen reaction easily.

Yelan will act as the Hydro Sub-DPS, giving Childe some damage boost through her Elemental Burst, Depth-Clarion Dice, which unleashes a coordinated attack when your active character uses a Normal Attack.

Finally, Childe will do the heavy lifting after the other three provide him with Frozen reactions and a damage bonus. Since his Elemental Burst has a good range, try to apply Cryo to as many enemies as you can before you unleash Childe’s Burst.

Budget Team

This team consists of Childe, Xinqiu, Sucrose, and Bennett.

This team is relatively easier to gather than the previous two teams, since this one (excluding Childe), involves three 4-star characters.

Bennett will serve a similar purpose as he is in the Intergrassional Team: A Support who heals and buffs his teammates. Meanwhile, Xinqiu acts as the Sub-DPS and Hydro applier, providing a stable on-field Hydro presence.

Meanwhile, Sucrose is here since her Elemental Burst, Forbidden Creation – Isomer 75 / Type II, synergizes well with Childe, since it can absorb Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro into its vortex. Make sure that Bennett is the one who activates Sucrose’s Elemental Absorption, this in turn allows Childe to finish the enemies off with Vaporize reaction.
