Learn where to find both of the new Fontaine Shrine of Depths in the Sea of Bygone Eras region, as well as two new Fontaine Shrine Keys, in Genshin Impact Version 4.6 with this quick and easy guide. The last major expansion to Fontaine has arrived, bringing with it a new subarea and two new Shrine of Depths which award a huge amount of Primogems for finding them.

Genshin Impact: All Sea of Bygone Eras Shrine of the Depths Locations | New Fontaine Shrines 4.6The Version 4.6 update for Genshin Impact has introduced a lot to the game, including the addition of playable Harbinger Arlecchino. However, likely the most substantial update for most players will be the addition of a new Fontaine region, the Nostoi Region, which is set to be the final major expansion to the Land of Hydro before we move onto Natlan in 5.0. As is tradition, a new area means a new set of Shrine of the Depths, specifically Fontaine ones which require Fontaine Shrine Keys so that you can plunder their impressive bounty. However, between the new area being complicated to navigate and the fact that you need to complete a quest to even unlock it, finding the two new Shrines in the Sea of Bygone Eras can be a tricky task.

Here are the two new Fontaine Shrine of Depths locations in the Sea of Bygone Eras, as well as how to get the last two Shrine Keys, in Genshin Impact Version 4.6.

Fontaine Shrine of Depths Keys

Shrine of Depths are special mausoleums hidden around Teyvat which each contain a Luxurious Chest, the highest rarity chest type which will award adventurous Travelers 20 Primogems as well as a batch of other goodies and rewards. However, they do not give up their secrets so easily, requiring Shrine Keys associated with that region. For example, Shrines in Fontaine require Fontaine Shrine Keys, with both being that signature Hydro blue, whereas Liyue Shrines and Shrine Keys are both that iconic Geo orange.

There are often two main ways to obtain Shrine Keys in a new region. The first is to level up that nation’s Statue of the Seven by feeding it copious amounts of Oculi. Alternatively, the other method is to rank up the region’s Sakura Tree equivalent (if they have one). Fortunately for you, Fontaine has both, with the latter being the beautiful and solemn Fountain of Lucine outside the infamous Fontaine Opera House. This is where you can trade your Hydro Sigils for various rewards, including several Shrine Keys and Wishes. Do note that, to unlock access to the Fountain of Lucine, you must beat the first act of the Fontaine Archon Quest (Chapter IV).

Lastly, while Shrines require region-specific keys, the Shrine Keys themselves aren’t attached to any specific Shrine. No matter the source, you can unlock any Shrine with any Shrine Key, so long as the colour of the two match, of course. As such, any Shrine Keys you’ve obtained before 4.6 can be used to unlock the two new Shrines added in the new region, and vice-versa.

How to Get More Fontaine Shrine Keys in Version 4.6

Now that you know about Shrine of the Depths and how to obtain Fontaine Shrine Keys, how do you obtain the new Shrine Keys added with Version 4.6? This version added two new Shrine of Depths, meaning that there are two new available sources for Fontaine Shrine Keys.

In Version 4.6, Hoyoverse has finally added the last batch of Hydroculi to the Fontaine map, allowing Travelers to fully level up their Fontaine Statue of the Seven. And you’ll need to do just that if you wish to obtain the final two Fontaine Shrine Keys as they are rewards for reaching Level 9 and Level 10 on the Statue, respectively.

A total of 255 Hydorculi are now available in Genshin Impact, with the last 39 having been added with Version 4.6. The new Hydroculi will primarily be in the new Sea of Bygone Eras location, but many more can be found scattered about the town of Petrichor in the Nostoi Region. Just like with all previous nations, you will have one single Hydroucli spare once you’ve found them all – likely intended for some future puzzle when we make it to Celestia – so keep searching, use the Hydro Resonance Stones, and, eventually, you’ll find enough to grab the last two Shrine Keys.

How to Unlock the Sea of Bygone Eras

However, before we go exploring the new area to find Shrines, you’ll first need to unlock access to it. Similar to previous area expansions like The Chasm or Enkanomiya, the Sea of Bygone Eras is a separate map from Teyvat which you must access from a specific point on the overworld. To make things more complicated, you’ll also need to progress a specific World Quest a significant amount to unlock both of the areas you need to access the Shrines.

The quest you’ll need to progress is the World Quest Canticles of Harmony, the main quest attached to the new region. You can pick up this quest as soon as you enter Petrichor by wandering near the Adventurers Guild members obsessing about a Stone Golem on the shoreline. This interaction will start a cutscene which will then automatically put the Canticles of Harmony World Quest – specifically, Prelude – Petrichorror Dream – in your quest log.

From there, follow the quest steps until you gain access to the Faded Castle beneath Petrichor during the quest First Movement – In the Halls of the Sea King. This is how you’ll enter the Sea of Bygone Eras, a new underwater space where the vast majority of the last Hydroculi, as well as the final two Fontaine Shrine of Depths, are located.

However, you’ll also need to progress the quest chain even further once you reach the first part of the Sea of Bygone Eras. You must break the shackles holding down Scylla during the quest Second Movement – Prisoner in Shackles to proceed further. This is because Scylla is your only way of reaching the second part of the Sea of Bygone Eras, the location where the second new Shrine of Depths is located.

Sea of Bygone Eras Shrine 1 Location

The first Sea of Bygone Eras Shrine of Depths is located in the starting area of the Sea, Initum Lani. This is the area which becomes immediately accessible to you as soon as you gain access to the Sea of Bygone Eras, allowing you to hunt for the first Shrine far earlier.

There are a total of four Teleport Waypoints in this area of the Sea of Bygone Eras and, to most efficiently reach the Shrine, travel to the eastern-most Waypoint (the Teleport Waypoint just above the Hortus Euergetis area signifier on the map). Once you’re at the Waypoint, which happens to be right next to one of Scylla’s shackles, swim directly up and around the encroaching cliff face.

Soon enough, the first Sea of Bygone Eras Shrine will make itself known, nestled proudly on the top of the underwater cliff and surrounded by a school of beautiful fish. If you have a Fontaine Shrine of Depths Key on you already, simply swim over and claim the treasure within, instantly netting yourself 20 Primogems as well as several other important items, including some Fontaine Talent Books.

For the second Fontaine Shrine in the Sea of Bygone Eras, you must progress the Canticles of Harmony quest until you reach the second, deeper half of the Sea where the sunken Palace of the Rumeria Empire now rests.

From the Teleport Waypoint at the start of the area, make yourself south towards the Collegium Phonascorum portion of the map, swimming up as you do to get around the tall rock faces. After passing by some of the broken golden pipes which litter this area of the Sea, you’ll reach Collegium Phonascorum, an area of the map mainly populated by massive purple mushrooms.

Hidden amongst these towering underwater fungi is the next, and last, Fontaine Shrine of Depths. This Shrine is a lot harder to spot than the first because a lot of foliage covers it, but it does give a nice view of the Clivus Capitolinus section of the map in the distance. If you’re having trouble finding it, swim up as high as you can and look directly down the Shrine’s distinctly shaped roof.

Like before, if you’ve reached max Statue of the Seven ranks in Fontaine, or if you’ve been hoarding Shrine Keys from previous versions, you can immediately open it for some plentiful rewards and 20 Primogems. Opening both Shrine of the Depths in the Sea of Bygone Eras will also award you the Sanctuary Pilgrim: Rhapsodia in the Ancient Sea Ancient for 10 additional Primogems. This achievement is required to complete the Rhapsodia in the Ancient Sea Achievement tab, which will give you the Fontaine: Attunement Name Card.

That was where you could find both of the new Fontaine Shrine of Depths in the Sea of Bygone Eras locations in Genshin Impact Version 4.6.
