FIFA 23 Player Career Mode Guide

FIFA 23 has brought some new features to the Player Career Mode such as player personalities and investing decisions. This guide will help you adapt quickly to these new additions, as well as give you tips about the features that FIFA 23 Career Mode has retained from its predecessor. Let's kickstart your career as a professional footballer!

FIFA 23 Player Career Mode Guide

Much like its predecessors, FIFA 23 won’t instantly put your created player into the top tier of world-class talent. You’ll have to slowly work your way from a bench player to a starter and eventually a legendary status by the twilight of your career. How to do this effectively? My FIFA 23 Player Career Mode Guide should hopefully help you breeze through the long journey ahead.

Manager Rating

Apart from the obvious need to start from a smaller club to get as many minutes as possible, you need to be very focused on your Manager Rating. This represents your manager’s opinion of your recent performance. If you don’t maintain a high level, you could see yourself dropping to the bench, subbed out quickly, or even loaned out to another club! This will significantly hamper your development as a player. So make sure to keep that bar nice and green with the upcoming tips!

Player Personality Types

A new feature added to FIFA 23 Player Career Mode is the Player Personality types. Essentially, this categorizes your player into one of three prominent personalities; Maverick, Heartbeat, and Virtuoso. Mavericks are individualistic players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Heartbeats are team players like Toni Kroos, and Virtuoso are balanced between the two like Keven de Bruyne. Your player will have elements of all three personality types but will be dominated by one depending on in and off-field actions.

Each Personality Type offers a boost to specific attributes, so be sure to focus on the one that gives you the most significant increase in the qualities you prefer. For the first 50% constituent of your personality, each 10% unlocks a boost to a single attribute, but from 50% onwards, it will boost all attributes for that category. I advise keeping your preferred personality type at over 50% to unlock all the boosts of that category, keeping the other two in the 20s.

The Personality System is divided into Tiers 1,2 and 3. At Tier 1, each 10% constituent of a personality will give growth in a particular attribute by 1+. This rises to 3+ on Tier 2 and 5+ on Tier 3. To get to Tier 2, you need 20,000 personality points and a total of 75,000 for Tier 3. Sounds like a lot of numbers, right? But don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it. Now I will guide you on how to get those Personality Points.

Match Objectives

One way is to successfully complete the 3 Match Objectives assigned to you every match according to your role, position, and importance to the team. These include but are not limited to scoring a given number of goals, maintaining a successful tackle percentage, making a certain number of assists, etc. If you do well, you’ll not only receive Personality Points relevant to your action, but you will also improve the Manager Rating leading to more minutes on the pitch and XP, which I’ll get to soon.

Training Sessions

The second way to gain Personality Points, as well as XP, is through the Training sessions you have between games, and the higher your grade, the more Personality Points and XP you will earn. The trick here is not to waste your time repeatedly playing through entire sessions but rather achieve a high grade once and then simulate it the next time. Different training routines give you different types of points. For instance, penalty practice will provide you with Maverick Points, while passing drills may give you Virtuoso or Heartbeat points.

On Pitch Actions

Thirdly, your individual actions on the pitch also give you specific personality points. For instance, if you create a tap-in goal for your teammate instead of shooting yourself, you will get Virtuoso or Heartbeat points. If you try to dribble past the entire defense, you will attain Maverick Points. So keep these things in mind before taking an impossible shot on!

Off Pitch Actions

Finally, your off-field actions go a long way in determining your Personality Type. FIFA 23 has added activities such as Visiting an injured teammate at the hospital, praising yourself at a press conference, etc. You will also have some investment decisions to make, such as buying a mansion or giving money to a charity. Depending on the nature of the action or investment, you will gain Personality Points in one of three types. So think this through, don’t just randomly make decisions! Keep your desired personality traits in mind and make your choices accordingly.

Upgrade Your Attributes With Skill Points

Next up in this FIFA 23 Player Career Mode Guide is cashing in on the XP you gained through Match Objectives and Training Sessions! XP raises your level, and you accumulate a certain number of Skill Points with each level. Use these Skill points in the different skill trees for attributes such as shooting, passing, defending, etc., to steadily level up your player. If you are a fullback, I would advise you to focus on the skills most suited to your position, such as Defending and Pace. Alternatively, if you are a striker, concentrate on the Shooting and Pace Skill Trees. As a midfielder, you will want to improve your passing stats.

Your Skill Tree will look somewhat like this at the start

In general, the most crucial Skill Tree, no matter what position you play, is pace because, in FIFA, pace is King. Once you reach the end of a particular skill tree, you will receive a significant boost to your attributes in the form of an archetype, although this usually requires a lot of skill points which you could have invested in other skill trees instead.

Conclusion

In essence, these are the steps you have to take.

  1. Maintain Manager Rating to get more minutes
  2. Make on-pitch and off-pitch decisions based on your personality, and invest personality points carefully
  3. Complete training sessions to get XP, personality points and skill points
  4. Upgrade your attributes with the skill points

Follow the steps in this FIFA 23 Player Career Mode Guide and watch as your player steadily rises to stardom. If you feel like it’s taking too much time, you can even dial down the difficulty level in order to make it easier to complete match objectives and level up faster.
