Destiny 2: The Final Shape | How to Unlock the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X (All Traveler Vision Locations)

Discover how to unlock the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X Auto Rifle in Destiny 2: The Final Shape with this quick and easy guide. After you unlock the Legendary Khvostov 7G-02, you can start working towards unlocking the Khvostov 7G-0X, the Exotic variant which comes with some killer perks and a slick new design based off of Old Russia.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape | How to Unlock the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X Destiny 2: The Final Shape is a love letter to Destiny fans old and new. With incredible story payoffs, some of the best environment designs we’ve ever seen from Bungie, and some amazing loot, The Final Shape has achieved its goal of being one of Destiny’s best expansions. One of the most exciting things in the expansion, though, is the return of the Khvostov, the first weapon we got to wield as Guardians when we awoke for the first time.

The Khvostov has been reintroduced before – most notably as an Exotic back in Rise of Iron – but the versions introduced in The Final Shape are the most interesting. We’ve previously covered how to get the Legendary version of the Khvostov, the 7G-02, but now it’s time to showcase how you can get your hands on the shiny new Exotic variant of the weapon, the Khvostov 7G-0X. While it’s based on the same frame as the original Khvostov, it has a new suite of Exotic perks and a new appearance inspired by the lands where we found it.

How to Unlock the Exotic Khvostov in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

There are three main components to unlocking the final form of the Khvostov in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. First, and most importantly, you need to get your hands on the Legendary Khvostov. To do so, you’ll have to find all 15 hidden Encryption Bits around the Pale Heart: these collectables will combine into a special Encryption Key which can used to obtain the 7G-02. If you’re wondering where to go and where all of the Bits are, check out our Khvostov 7G-02 guide here for more information

Once you have the Khvostov 7G-02, you can begin the second step which is collecting all 8 Visions of the Traveler. These are essentially tiny facsimile versions of the Traveler which are hidden in the Pale Hearts’ eight main areas (the Lost City, the Landing, the Refraction, the Blooming, the Seclusion, the Divide, the Impasse, and the Transgression).

Upon finding all of the Visions, you can return them to their rightful place in the Speaker’s old room in the Lost Tower. There, you’ll find eight tiny models of the Last City which will each slot their own Visions, creating a small diorama of the Traveler above the Lost City. Once all eight Visions have been placed, a special golden chest will spawn in the middle of the room.

The Traveler Returned

The Traveler Returned

However, you will be unable to pry it open until you scoop up all 17 Motes of Light. Motes drop from two main sources: the Visions of the Traveler, and the final bosses from Overthrow. Each Overthrow location – the Landing, the Blooming, and the Impasse – has three unique bosses associated with them. Defeating a boss for the first time will drop their Mote of Light as a Legendary engram from their body (subsequent defeats will drop nothing) and you’ll need to beat all nine bosses to claim their Motes as your own.

With the eight Motes from the Visions and the nine Motes from Overthrow, your final Mote drop will instead be the Exotic Mote of Primordial Light. Finally, after a lot of work, you can take this back to the chest in the Speaker’s Room and claim the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X for yourself.

You Lack Something...

You Lack Something…

All Visions of the Traveler Locations

The first main step of this hidden quest chain is to find the eight Visions of the Traveler. As we mentioned, one Vision will appear in each of the Pale Heart’s major zones. It will appear as a tiny version of the Traveler and you can get a hint to each of the Visions locations by walking up to the Lost City dioramas in the Speaker’s Room.

Upon picking up a Vision, you will be given an Enhancement Core, some Ghost reputation, and a Mote of Light.

The Lost City Outskirts Traveler Vision Location

The first Vision of the Traveler you can find in Destiny 2: The Final Shape is in the Lost City Outskirts, the area you first battled through when you initially entered the Pale Heart.

To reach the Vision efficiently, touch down in the Lost Tower and then exit towards the Lost City Outskirts. As soon as you leave the safety of the Tower, turn right and head over to the outcropping of buildings in that direction. Eventually, you’ll find yourself in a small area of deserted highrises that’s infested by Dread.

At the back of this location is a tranquil view with two flowing waterfalls. The left-most waterfall is falling into a massive tree stump, one you can safely jump into. This is where the first Vision of the Traveler will be. Pick it up, listen to Micah-10’s insightful exposition, and you can continue.

The Landing Traveler Vision Location

The second Vision is in the Landing, the grassy land right outside the Lost Tower’s gates which is infested with Lucent Hive. As for the clue given out in the Speaker’s room, it reads as such:

“At the edge of the Landing, it basks by a shallow pool.”

The Landing Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

The Landing Vision is possibly the easiest Vision to find in all of The Final Shape. Transmat to The Landing Landing Zone and, once you touch down, immediately turn left. There, you should see another waterfall, and, hidden within the surging stream, you will find another Traveler Vision.

The Refraction Traveler Vision Location

Next up is The Refraction, the winding cliffside passageways which connect The Landing and The Blooming. The hint for this Vision is:

“Climbing down a cliffside path, it splashes in a watery nook.”

The Refraction Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Despite being relatively early on, The Refraction’s Vision is hidden in a pretty tricky spot. Proceed into The Refraction from The Landing and make your way through normally until you exit the crystalline chamber with the Prismatic Chest challenge. You’ll know you’re in the right spot because a Hive Shrieker will immediately begin firing at you

Deal with the Shrieker and jump over the cliff towards where the Shrieker is. Below, you should see a small hidden path leading deeper into the mountain. Follow this path and the next Traveler Vision will make itself known to you.

The Blooming Traveler Vision Location

The Blooming is the second major area within the Pale Heart where the Overthrow activity can take place. It’s a strange land, one of simultaneous growth and decay with the Tree of Silver Wings standing proudly at its core. The hint for the Blooming Vision is:

“It admires an aureate sigil from a lofty vantage point.”

The Blooming Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Fortunately, this is another relatively easy one to find. Once you land in The Blooming, head towards where you exit the Blooming into the Seclusion, the next area on our list. Before you hop the ledge and begin making your down there, though, look to the sky and towards the tall, dead trees which litter the area.

Right at the exit point of The Blooming is a particularly large withered tree, one which holds the Vision of the Traveler within its branches. All you need to do is clamber up to it and the Vision is yours, along with some juicy lore by Micah-10.

The Seclusion Traveler Vision Location

The Seclusion connects the Blooming to the Divide and it’s also where the recreation of Zavala’s old home rests. The clue given to us by the Speaker’s Room in regards to the Seclusion is:

“Look behind waterfalls – and up – to its cozy little nook.”

The Seclusion Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

This Vision is a bit different from all the rest because it’s actually located within a Cyst, a new type of activity within the Pale Heart. The easiest Cyst to activate for our task is the Searing Light Cyst, which you can enter by unlocking a Hive Runic door behind a waterfall near Zavala’s home

Once you breach the Cyst, continue forth but stop before entering the main chamber. Instead, turn around and you should see a big hole which you can clamber into. Inside, shoved into a dark corner, is the Seclusion Vision.

The Divide Traveler Vision Location

Next on our list is the Divide, the area representing our memories of Old Russia, the land where we woke for the first time as a Guardian. The majority of this area is blanketed in ice and snow, with cars and motorways distorted into odd shapes. As for the hint, it reads as such:

“It hides from the icy winds behind a satellite dish.”

The Divide Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Prepare for a long trek to find this Vision, no matter whether you enter from the Seclusion or the Impasse. Your main destination is the area at the very top of the Divide, the location where the Darkness Vision Prismatic Chest will sometimes spawn. This is right before you enter the Old Russia recreation.

Once you finally arrive at this area, look around for a satellite dish. Behind it will be the sixth Vision of the Traveler.

The Impasse Traveler Vision Location

The third, and final, major location in the Pale Heart is the Impasse, the darkest zone within the Traveler and one constantly blanketed by dust storms and waves of unfathomable darkness. The hint for the Impasse Vision in Destiny 2: The Final Shape is:

“Wandering through pyramidal structures, it stops to rest in a ring.”

The Impasse Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

This is luckily another relatively easy one to track down. Upon landing in the Impasse, turn left and, a short ways off in the distance, you should see a familiar-looking Pyramid structure. Wander over to it and then look north to find another bit of Pyramid architecture, this time fashioned into something like a shrine. At the heart of that shrine will be the second-to-last Vision, sitting delicately atop a ring.

The Transgression Traveler Vision Location

The final Vision of the Traveler in Destiny 2: The Final Shape is lost within the Transgression, the last location before you arrive at the Witness’ monolith. Like the Impasse, this area is completely dead and withered, with continuous storms blocking your vision at all times as Dread stalks you from the shadows. For the Transgression, the Speaker’s hint reads as follows:

“Battered by storms, it shelters beneath a dead tree.”

The Transgression Vision Hint, Destiny 2: The Final Shape

There are a lot of dead trees within the Transgression, but the one we’re specifically on the hunt for is relatively late into the Transgression: in fact, it’s right at the end of the area before you arrive at the Pyramid architecture you discovered during the Dissent mission

Battle your way through the sand storms and, once you arrive, look around for a dead tree atop a ledge. Behind this tree is the last Traveler Vision.

Defeat All Overthrow Bosses in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

With the eight Motes taken from the Visions of the Traveler, the last step to unlocking the Khvostov 7G-0X is to defeat all nine bosses in Overthrow. As we mentioned earlier, there are three possible bosses in each Overthrow location, and you’ll need to best all of them if you want to reunite properly with the Khvostov.

In The Landing, the three final bosses of Overthrow take the form of Hive Lightbearers. The main mechanic of the Landing’s Overthrow boss fights is that you’ll need to utilise Hive Swords to destroy bundles of Hive Energy whenever the boss shields itself. These three bosses are:

  • Nolakh, Star-Eater (Hive Titan)
  • Ir Okmarr, Devoted to Savathun (Hive Warlock)
  • Mharuk, Sky-Stealer (Hive Hunter)

Meanwhile, the three bosses in The Blooming are all Taken entities. The Blooming’s primary boss mechanic is similar to the Overflowing Light mechanic from the Golgorth Raid Encounter: when the boss raises a shield, you need to kill a nearby Cursed Thrall and absorb its energy, allowing you to run at the boss and detonate that energy to destroy its protective barrier. The Taken enemies you’ll need to defeat are:

  • Voxelos, Taken by the Witness (Taken Minotaur)
  • Kholon, Taken by the Witness (Taken Ogre)
  • Koftiks, Taken by the Witness (Taken Chimera)
    Bosses of Overthrow

    Bosses of Overthrow

Finally, at The Impasse, you’ll be facing off against the Witness’ elite guard, all of whom are Dread. Fitting the theme of the bosses, the main mechanic here is similar to Vow of the Disciple, asking you to pick up small Resonances whenever the boss shields itself to shred the shield and continue damage. The final three bosses you must defeat to claim the Exotic Khvostov in Destiny 2: The Final Shape are:

  • Rhuna, Subjugator of Chasms (Stasis Subjugator)
  • Rhaska, Subjugator of Thresholds (Strand Subjugator)
  • Araaxen, Reverent of the Witness (Tormentor)

A word of warning about this step of the quest as of writing. If you leave the Taken Chimera boss, Koftiks, as your final boss to kill, you run the risk of losing all of your currently acquired Motes of Light, with no way of getting them back. Bungie has addressed this issue and promises to fix it in a future update but its worth knowing about. Additionally, sometimes, a boss will drop a Mote of Light but fling it away from its body, making it look like it didn’t drop anything. As such, make sure to scourer the area after each kill.

Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X Weapon Overview

While the Legendary Khvostov 7G-02 may feel like the perfect end point of our original weapon from Destiny 1, the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X feels like the weapon was reborn in the Light, granting it incredible new power as a result.

The Khvostov 7G-0X has two main Exotic traits. The first is The Right Choice which causes every seventh bullet fired from this weapon to deal additional damage and ricochet to nearby targets. Meanwhile, Eyes Up, Guardian strengthens your next several ricochet shots whenever you collect an Orb of Power. To aid in your Orb collecting endeavours, the Khvostov 7G-0X also has Shoot to Loot as an additional perk.

In terms of gameplay, the Khvostov 7G-0X is an incredibly strong weapon for add-clear. The ricochet bullets allow it to excel in clearing rooms of adds and even deal considerable damage to stronger targets like Majors, barring that there are weaker targets around to ricochet from. Additionally, it has an incredibly high ease of use and really reliable stats which make it feel incredible to use. Furthermore, it’s a perfect option for Prismatic as Kinetic weapons fill both the Light and Dark bars for Transcendence.

The Khvostov 7G-0X

The Khvostov 7G-0X

Overall, both versions of the Khvostov – the Legendary and the Exotic variants – have a place in the current meta, with the Exotic version inching out in terms of destructive potential. Between the low barrier to entry, the easy-to-understand Exotic perks, and the immense amount of nostalgia attached to the weapon, the Exotic Khvostov is a weapon all players should definitely get in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

That was how to unlock the new Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X in Destiny 2: The Final Shape
