Destiny 2: Spire of the Watcher Secret Bonus Chest Locations

Like all other Dungeons, Spire of the Watcher contains a few hidden chests that will award adventurous Guardians with bonus loot and this guide tells you exactly where to find them.

Destiny 2: Spire of the Watcher Secret Bonus Chest Locations

The new Destiny 2 Dungeon, Spire of the Watcher, has just launched in Destiny 2. It tasks Guardians with venturing into a Golden Age Warmind Bunker to stop data from falling into the villainous hands of the Vex. If you want to learn how to conquer this new Dungeon, you can find our guide on all the encounters here on KeenGamer.

Spire of the Watcher also continues the tradition of having several secret chests for players to find. These will drop players repeated drops of any loot they have previously obtained from the Dungeon once per week on each character.

These chests can be a bit tricky to find, however. They’re hidden in jumping puzzles, behind hard-to-reach places and in other miscellaneous locations. Bungie is going to make you work for that bonus loot.

Here’s where to find all of the bonus secret chests in the Spire of the Watcher Dungeon in Destiny 2

Chest 1: Begin the Ascent

The first secret chest can be found in the Begin the Ascent jumping puzzle. This is a massive open room filled with Hydras and Harpies who take the utmost glee in striking you down from the sky. You will have to platform around suspended metal platforms and pieces of loose scaffolding to reach the end.

The secret chest is located in the middle of this wide-open room. At one point, you have to take a leap of faith and jump down onto a piece of metal sticking out a wall. Then, you use a nearby bit of scaffolding to climb up and continue onwards.

To get to the first chest, you need to get through a small jumping puzzle - Destiny 2 Spire of the Watcher Bonus Chests

When you reach the top of said scaffolding, turn around and look about. You’ll find a platform that connects you back to a previous walkway. On the walkway will be one of the Devilish Recordings you need for the Devil in the Details Triumph, but push a bit further past that and you will see a piece of the wall poking out over a long drop.

If you manage to make it to said outcrop, you can open up your first secret chest.

Chest 2: Going Further In

The second of bonus secret chest in Spire of the Watcher can be located after the 2nd major encounter. Once you defeat the mega Harpy Akelous and claim your loot, you have to crawl down into the guts of the structure. Down there you will pass through several layers of machinery and metal infested by new units of Vex as you race to the bottom.

You will also learn the next of the Dungeon’s major mechanics, the red-cabled Arc Nodes. Like the previous Arc Nodes, these can only be shot while you have the Arctician buff but unlike the yellow-cabled Nodes, they can be shot in any order within a strict time limit. Several rooms are teaching this mechanic to you before you reach the final boss.

The room where the second secret chest is located is the third and final of these ‘teaching’ rooms. You and your fireteam will fall into the middle of a square-shaped platform. You will be surrounded by electric traps that exit out into a diamond-shaped room full of enemies and some more red-cabled Arc Nodes to complete.

Poking around this area you will notice that some of the platforms have stairs with gaps underneath them. Have a peek below and you will find that each one has a grate that you can shoot and destroy. Look under every set of stairs until you find a grate that leads into a long deep passage.

Hop down the hole and you will come face to face with the final secret bonus chest in Spire of the Watcher.

Bonus Chest Loot

These chests act differently from some of the other chests in Spire of the Watcher.

First, they will only drop loot that you have previously acquired. If you haven’t gotten a weapon or a piece of armour before opening the chest, you’ll only be given some upgrade materials in return. Make sure that, before you open the chest, you have a gun or item you want multiple rolls of before opening each chest.

Secondly, while Spire of the Watcher is the pinnacle Dungeon it can be farmed over and over for new loot. That loot won’t be pinnacle level, of course, but you do have the chance to acquire new weapons and gear you previously couldn’t get. The secret chests, though, can only be claimed once per week per character. Even if you can farm the rest of the Dungeon, the secret chests only give up their bounty once per week.

Aside from that, you have a chance at getting any of the new Dungeon armour or weapons to drop from these secret chests. This includes the new Tex Mechanica Legendary weapons and the Cowboy-themed armour.
