Destiny 2 | Guardian Games Focus Activity Explained | How to Get Winner’s Packages

Learn everything you need to know about Focus Activities and Winner's Packages, two new systems introduced with Guardian Games All-Stars, in Destiny 2 with this quick and easy guide. Focus Activities are a new part of Guardian Games 2024 and they hope to drive more players into the event's various playlists, with some generous rewards on offer.

Destiny 2 | Guardian Games Focus Activity Explained | How to Get Winner's PackagesThe fifth annual Guardian Games, nicknamed Guardian Games All-Stars, has been live for a few days now in Destiny 2. Alongside the usual arguments of class imbalance, patches to fix various inadequacies, and the constant reminder that Hunters likely outnumber Titans and Warlocks 2:1, many Guardians have been trying to wrap their heads around one of Guardian Games 2024’s newest mechanics: the Focus Activity system. Intended to get players to engage with the four core Guardian Games playlists, this system has instead just resulted in mass confusion for many.

At base, Focus Activities are already pretty baffling and hard to grasp. What makes it worse is that some decent rewards are tied to playing the Focus Activity, including the easiest way to get the Allstar Vector Skimmer, the first (and only) free new vehicle type Bungie has added. As such, many people are clamouring for answers about what the Focus Activity system is and how they can get Winner’s Packages, and we’re here to help with that.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Focus Activity and Winner’s Packages in Destiny 2 Guardian Games All-Stars, two confusing new mechanics added to the event.

What is the Focus Activity mechanic in Destiny 2?

To begin, let’s go over the basics of the Focus Activity system for Destiny 2. Every few hours, one of the four Guardian Games playlists – those being Recreational, Competitive Nightfalls, Supremacy, and Class vs Class Gambit – will become the Focus Activity for the next two to three hours. You can tell which activity is currently the focus based on the white accents underneath that playlist’s icon.

During this two-hour window, players who participate in the playlist will earn points for their class. So, if a Hunter plays Supremacy while that playlist is the Focus Activity, they will earn points for the Hunters. Each of the three classes will be competing against each other during this time, with each class earning a special reward package if they can reach a certain amount of points.

Once the two hours conclude, the class with the most points will be awarded a Focus Activity Winner’s Package, which will go to all players pledged to that class. Your pledged class is the first class you play on during that Focus Activity instance, meaning that you are able to change your allegiance each time the Focus Activity goes live if you so wish.

After the packages have been doled out, the Focus Activity will go dormant for another few hours before kicking off again with a new playlist as the focus. The wait between each Focus Activity instance appears to be about 5 hours, so expect roughly 3 or 4 Focus Activity sessions in a single day.

Focus Activity Standings

Above the four Guardian Games playlists on the Tower map, you’ll find the Focus Activity Standings node. Hovering over this node will either tell you how long you have to wait for the next Focus Activity instance to go live or, if it’s already active, it will inform you of the current points and standings between each of the three classes.

At the bottom of the Focus Activity Standings node will be three coloured bars, each one representing the efforts of one of the classes. The numbers next to these bars tell you how many points each class has, as well as which class is currently in first place and on track to win the Winner’s Package for that session.

In short, the Focus Activity Standings node is one you’ll want to check back on regularly during Guardian Games All-Stars to either see when the next event will go live or which class is currently in the first place position.

What are Focus Activity Winner’s Packages in Destiny 2 and how do I claim them?

As we mentioned in the section above, Focus Activity Winner’s Packages are awarded to any player pledged to the class with the most points at the end of a Focus Activity session. If you are pledged to the class who wins the event, you will be one of the lucky participants to receive one of these packages.

In terms of what the Winner’s Package gets you, you’ll receive a full Medallion Case’s worth of Medals, barring the elusive Diamond Medallions. That means 5 Bronze, 5 Silver, 3 Gold, and 3 Platinum Medallions for just pledging to the winning class. Then, you can bank those Medallions at the winner’s podium for a boatload of rewards.

Focus Activity Winner's Packages

Focus Activity Winner’s Packages

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Focus Activity system is how you can claim Winner’s Packages. Well, you don’t need to visit Eva or the Guardian Games podium like you do with most of the event’s rewards: instead, you just need to hop over to your inventory once the Focus Activity has ended. If you were on the winning team, a Winner’s Package should pop up in your inventory. From there, simply hover over it and then click open to receive your rewards.

If the Winner’s Package doesn’t appear in your inventory, log out of the game or change characters and it should appear the next time you load into orbit. Additionally, before you can claim the Winner’s Package, you need to ensure that your Medallion Case is empty. Otherwise, you won’t be able to open it up.

The Importance of Playing the Focus Activity

So, now that you know what the Focus Activity is in Destiny 2 as well as how to open Winner’s Packages from the event, why is it so important to engage with this system? Of course, free rewards from the Winner’s Packages are always going to be nice, especially when they result in a ton of loot drops, including the new Hullabaloo Grenade Launcher.

However, the biggest reason to engage in the Focus Activity system is to pave an easy path towards getting the Allstar Vector Skimmer. Easily the most exciting part of Guardian Games 2024 is that Bungie have added a brand new vehicle class for the first time in Destiny 2 as an event reward. Skimmers are Destiny’s take on hoverboards, allowing Guardians to zoom around the world at high speeds, performing tricks and grinding on elemental rails as they go. Honestly, they’re a really cool addition to the game and worth playing Guardian Games for all on their own (especially because the only surefire way of getting a Skimmer post Guardian Games will be via Eververse).

The Allstar Vector

After completing the introductory Best in Class questline for Eva, she will give you the Drop In quest. Not only will this give you a Common-tier trial version of the Allstar Vector to use for the duration of the event, allowing you to test out the Skimmer’s capabilities, but it is also your path to obtain a permanent Exotic Allstar Vector. All you need to do to complete the quest is complete one of three objectives. Unfortunately, all three objectives can be frustrating in their own way, either requiring you to bank an absurd amount of medallions or get a super high score in the Competitive Nightfall playlist.

The third and final objective is to open three Focus Activity winner’s packages and, of the three, this is easily the best method for obtaining the Skimmer without much hassle. While it is much slower than the other two methods on average – winning three Focus Activity events in a row will take, at least, 15-20 hours – it is also the easiest to execute, as all you need to do is pledge to the right team three times and boom, the Skimmer is yours.

Drop In Quest Objectives

Of course, you obviously need to know how the Focus Activity system works, as well as how to check who’s winning to ensure that you have the best chance of obtaining the Skimmer quickly. It seems like most players are rallying around the Hunter class for these Focus Activity events, the class with the highest base population, even after a patch from Bungie promises to straighten out the imbalance between classes next week.

As such, if you want to get the Skimmer efficiently, we recommend waiting until the halfway point of each Focus Activity event so that you can check which class is in the lead via the Focus Activity Standings node. In all previous events, the team that has been in first place at the halfway point has also been the team to win the whole thing. With that in mind, you can always ensure that you pledge to the team who has the best chance of winning: just make sure not to enter the Focus Activity by accident before that or else you may pledge to the wrong class.

Easy Skimmer Acquisition

That was everything you needed to know about the somewhat complex and confusing Focus Activity and Winner’s Package systems for Destiny 2’s Guardian Games All-Stars event. Remember that everything in Guardian Games 2024, including the Focus Acitivty system, will disappear on March 26th when the Games come to an end, so get your Skimmer by then or you’ll need to fork over some Silver for one, instead.
