Destiny 2 | All Crota’s End Secret Bonus Chest Locations (Spoils of Conquest Triumph Guide)

This guide will show you the location of every single secret bonus chest in the reprised edition of the Crota's End Raid in Destiny 2. Secret chests are a staple of every D2 Raid and Crota's End is no exception, with these hidden chests having the chance to reward adventurous players with Red Borders, Raid Mods and more sweet Raid loot.

Destiny 2 | All Crota's End Secret Bonus Chest Locations (Spoils of Conquest Triumph Guide)

Like all previous Raids in Destiny 2, the reprised edition of Crota’s End contains a series of hidden triumphs to complete and secrets to unearth. The most important secrets are, of course, the locations of the Raid’s hidden bonus chests. Concealed in hard-to-reach places in different areas of Crota’s End, these bonus chests will award players will additional pieces of Raid loot and exclusive Raid mods once per week on each character, giving Guardians another source of Deepsight weapons or godly armour rolls.  Up until this week, though, nobody could complete the Spoils of Conquest triumph or find all the chests on account of a sneaky bug.

In update 7.2.0.5 of Destiny 2, Bungie confirmed that the Spoils of Conquest Triumph has been glitched since the beginning of the season, showing a mysterious third secret chest to collect in Crota’s End. Now that it’s been confirmed that there are, in fact, only two chests like all of the other D2 Raids, players can easily acquire both the triumph and exclusive Warped Rachis Shader to complete the Crota’s End Badge, getting you ever closer to the Swordbearer Title.

Here’s where you can find all of the secret bonus chest locations in the reprised edition of Crota’s End in Destiny 2

All Hidden Chest Locations in Crota’s End

Secret Chest 1 Location

The first secret chest in Crota’s End can be found in the Raid’s very first encounter, the Abyss. This chest can be found by exploring the darkness of the Abyss for a certain door which is hiding the chest within. If you played the original Crota’s End in Destiny, this may sound very familiar to you.

Back in Destiny 1, the location of this secret chest would change week to week, moving locations to one of seven different doors. Those doors are still in Destiny 2 – they even still open when approached – but Bungie has done away with the randomness in favour of a fixed spawn point for the first secret chest. In Destiny 2, the first bonus chest in Crota’s End will always spawn in the fifth optional door.

Go Towards the Light

Go Towards the Light

To easily reach this location, you can take two methods. At the start of the Abyss encounter, instead of taking the Chalice and heading to the first Preservation point, head to the left until you reach the massive wall. From here, follow the wall all the way down the main route of the encounter, avoiding any holes or Thralls which may come to bother you. Continue doing this until the wall rounds a corner: from here, you should be able to see a door lit up in the distance which will contain the first secret chest.

If you’re a bit more patient or simply want to progress the encounter while also getting the chest, simply follow the encounter until you reach the Hive Lantern right before the first large upward slope: this Lantern has a massive hole in front of which spawns a yellow-bar Thrall. Instead of going up the slope, head to the left where the door containing the chest should be visible and easy to collect. Just watch out for some nearby holes which can kill you if you aren’t careful.

Secret Chest 2 Location

The second Crota’s End secret chest is between the Bridge encounter and the Deathsinger encounter. Unlike most secret chests in Destiny 2, this one isn’t just sitting around, waiting for you to pillage it: instead, you’ll need to complete a small timed combat section to unlock access to it.

Directly after the Bridge encounter, you’ll enter a room with a Chalice of Light on a podium and a single corridor leading deeper within. As soon as you pick up the Chalice, enemies will begin to spawn in the hallway, including two Shrikers locked behind green barriers. These Shriekers need to be killed to drop the barrier and allow your teammates through. This short section is supposed to teach and prime you with the information required for the Deathsinger encounter, as it teaches you that only Enlightened players can pass through those green barriers.

To get to the chest, you need to make it to the end of the corridor and Preserve the Chalice before the doors at the other end close. Do it too slowly or forget to Preserve the Chalice and the chest will not spawn.

The best way to ensure that you get this chest is to decide who in your fireteam is going to take the Chalice and kill the Shriekers before picking it up. Preferably, you’d want your first and second Chalice-holders to equip a Rocket Launcher so they can kill the Shrieker in a single hit, whereas the third player should be a character with high mobility such as an Icarus Dash Warlock or someone with access to a Strand Grapple to ensure that they reach the Preserve point in time. You need to be really quick in this section and all three Chalice-holders need to be ready

Manage it, though, and the second secret chest, and the Spoils of Conquest triumph, will be yours.

Bonus Chest Loot

Now that you know where to find each of the chests, what will you actually get from them? Well, if you’ve collected any secret chests from previous Destiny 2 Dungeons or Raids, you already know the score.

These chests will only drop loot you’ve previously acquired from the Raid already: they do not drop any new loot you haven’t had before aside from Raid mods. So, for example, if I only have the Word of Crota and the Warlock Chest Piece unlocked, the bonus chests have a 50/50 chance of giving me either the Hand Cannon or the Chest armour. The more loot you obtain from the ordinary chests, the more options you unlock from the bonus chest. Also, weapons which drop from the secret chest have a chance to drop as a Red Border, giving you another source of potential pattern acquisition.

Additionally, your first few visits to the secret chests will award Crota’s End exclusive Raid Mods as another reward alongside actual loot. Only Crota’s End Raid armour can take these mods and they will provide very specific benefits while inside the Raid. Some of these Mods generate additional Orbs (such as the Violent Pour Mod) whereas others directly relate to Raid mechanics (Benevolent Overflow). While nothing too impactful, these mods can be very helpful when tackling some of the Raid Triumphs or Raid Challenges.

Lastly, it’s worth noting that you can only open these chests once per week per character. If you have three different characters, you can unlock a total of 6 secret Crota’s End bonus chests per week, giving you 6 additional sources of loot. Any extra loot sources are always going to be beneficial, especially if you’re still searching for a God Roll or more Red Borders.
