In this guide, we'll be showing where you can find all 10 of the Bones of Hefnd within the new Warlord's Ruin Dungeon in Destiny 2. The Bones of Hefnd (or, more simply, the Ahamkara Bones) are a new type of collectable within D2's latest Dungeon and, if you find them all, you'll learn some fascinating Ahamkara lore and boost your Exotic drop rate for the Buried Bloodline.

Destiny 2 | All Bones of Hefnd Locations in Warlord's Ruin (Ahamkara Bones)

Like with most of the Dungeons released over the last few years in Destiny 2, there are a bunch of little hidden secrets within Warlord’s Ruin, the newest Dungeon to join the game. There are the two secret bonus chests which you can find for additional loot (if you want more information on these, you can find our Warlord’s Ruin bonus chest guide here) but there are also several special collectables within the Dark Age castle called the Bones of Hefnd. These are the remains of Hefnd, an Ahamkara who is essential to the story and narrative behind Warlord’s Ruin.

As always with the tricksy Wish Dragons, these collectables aren’t like the others found in previous Dungeons. The main reason for this is that the Ahamkara Bones are locked behind magic doors which need certain levels of dispelling magic to open, magic you can only gain access to if you progress through the Dungeon’s main questline. That’s alongside needing to find the things, which aren’t the easiest to stumble across.

What Are the Bones of Hefnd in Warlord’s Ruin?

Similar to the Memories from Ghosts of the Deep or the Devilish Recordings from Spire of the Watcher, the Bones of Hefnd (also known as the Ahamkara Bones) are a special kind of collectable that Guardians can find inside the Warlord’s Ruin Dungeon in Destiny 2. In total, there are 10 Ahamkara Bones to collect from various areas in the Dungeon. If you can locate them all, you’ll get some interesting lore about how the Dungeon came to be as well as triumph which will increase the drop chance of the Buried Bloodline Exotic Sidearm.

However, there are some major differences between these collectables and those seen in previous Dungeons. The most important thing about the Ahamkara Bones is that they’re tied to the Dungeon quest, In The Shadow of the Mountain. Most of the Bones are locked behind magic doors and you’ll need to dispel the Taken magic infesting these doors to open them.

There are three different tiers of magic binding these doors and you’ll unlock the ability to dispel higher tiers of magic the further you go into the In The Shadow of the Mountain quest:

  • Upon finding the first of Bone of Hefnd (Ahamkara Bone 10 on our list), you need to collect 5 Dark Ether Tinctures from several yellow-bar Screebs throughout the Dungeon. This will take you to step 4 of the In The Shadow of the Mountain Quest and allow you to open Tier 1 doors.
  • After completing all of the requirements in step 4, they’ll enter step 5 (which is mostly the same as the previous step) which lets you open Tier 2 doors.
  • Finally, complete step 5 and reach step 6 to gain the ability to open Tier 3 doors.

It should take you at least 2 or 3 runs before you gain full access to all the doors if you’re going out of your way to complete all of the quest objectives (which includes finding all the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Bones, as well as purposefully chasing down the Dark Tincture Screebs). Either way, you’re going to be running Warlord’s Ruin multiple times to secure all 10 Ahamkara Bones for your collection so get ready.

All Bone of Hefnd Locations in Warlord’s Ruin

We’ll be going through the Bone of Hefnd locations in chronological order for this guide. To complete the various steps of In The Shadow of the Mountain quest, you will have to collect the Bones in the previous tier. For example, before you can unlock access to all Tier 2 Bones, you need to have found and picked up all Tier 1 Bones).

  • Tier 1 Bones of Hefnd: Bone 1, Bone 2, Bone 7
  • Tier 2 Bones of Hefnd: Bone 2, Bone 5, Bone 6
  • Tier 3 Bones of Hefnd: Bone 4, Bone 8, Bone 9

However, it should be noted that, if you’re running the Dungeon with a fireteam member who can dispel the higher-tier doors, you can get the Bones of Hefnd early without needing to progress In The Shadow of the Mountain. As such, if you can only unlock Tier 1 doors but your mate can unlock Tier 3 doors, you can get the Bones early and get the boosted Exotic chance early, as well.

With that out of the way, here’s where you can find all 10 of the Ahamkara Bones in Warlord’s Ruin in Destiny 2

Bones of Hefnd

Bones of Hefnd

Ahamkara Bone 1 (Tier 1)

The first Ahamkara Bone chronologically in the Dungeon can be found right before you enter the first encounter with Rathil, Broken Knight of Fikrul. To reach the first encounter, you will scale the side of the snowy mountains and cross a rope bridge being guarded by a small legion of Scorn.

Once you cross that bridge, you’ll enter a small section of the keep and, if you take the path to the left, you’ll eventually reach Rathil. However, as soon as you enter this structure from the rope bridge, look directly in front of you and you should see a set of stairs that descend a short distance before stopping at a door.

This is the first locked door in Warlord’s Ruin and you’ll need the ability to dispel Tier 1 magic to open it. Once you do, though, you’ll be able to grab the very first Bone of Hefnd in Warlord’s Ruin.

Ahamkara Bone 2 (Tier 1)

The second, third, fourth and fifth Ahamkara Bones are all between the first encounter and the second encounter, following the imprisonment section.

Once you escape the prison, you’ll enter an area called the Kingsbane Rampants. After hopping down through several layers of the broken floor (including a room full of fanatical Scorn worshipping one of the Taken effigies), you’ll be able to progress through a series of linear corridors deeper into the fortress. This is the area where the second sealed door hiding the Bone of Hefnd is.

You’ll find the door after jumping up to a new level of the fortress after leaping over a pit of spikes in the floor. To be more specific, the door is to the right side of the hallway after the first instance of spike traps on the walls.

Ahamkara Bone 3 (Tier 2)

To find the third Bone of Hefnd, continue deeper into the maze after finding the second door. Keep progressing forward until you pass through a large break in the wall to another part of the fortress.

After passing a wall full of traps, turn left and you’ll see the Tier 2 door at the other end of the hallway. Just be wary of the traps lining the floor as you make your way over to it.

Ahamkara Bone 4 (Tier 3)

The last Ahamkara Bone within the maze between encounters 1 and 2 is behind a Tier 3 door near the end of the labyrinth. As such, proceed as normal from the third Ahamkara Bone as if you’re trying to get out normally.

However, after passing both of the secret bonus chest spawn points, you will jump up to another new level in a large circular room surrounded by several locked gates. The only path out of this room will take you to a different corridor where you need to jump back down to a lower level but, if the Bone is your goal, don’t do this.

Instead, jump over the hole in the floor and make your way to the other end of the hallway (which is marked by a bright white light). Here, you’ll find the fourth Bone of Hefnd.

Ahamkara Bone 5 (Tier 2)

The final Bone of Hefnd you can find before the second encounter – which is the boss fight against the Locus of Wailing Grief – comes after the winding maze of corridors.

Upon exiting the labyrinth, you’ll step back into the snow outside. To progress, you must push your way through a moderately sized gathering of Scorn atop the castle’s crumbling walls, with most of the Scorn funnelling out of a large fortress at the other end of a broken bridge. If you want to get to the second encounter, you need to head to the left of this build and enter a broken grate.

However, to find the fifth Bone of Hefnd, head to the right side of the building, instead. There you’ll find a similar broken grate, only this one will lead to a Tier 2 door that you can unlock for your next Ahamkara Bone.

Ahamkara Bone 6 (Tier 2)

The sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth Bones of Hefnd all appear in the space between encounter 2 and the final boss fight.

After passing through the courtyard of mimic bonus chests, you’ll enter an icy cave that you must platform out of. Usually, you would just continue after taking care of a small group of Scorn but, as soon as you exit that icy cave and enter the new one, look to your left for a small break in the rocky walls.

Stepping into this crevasse will take you to a hidden part of the fortress, one which contains the next Tier 2 door and the sixth Bone of Hefnd.

Ahamkara Bone 7 (Tier 1)

The seventh Ahamkara Bone in Warlord’s Ruin is the final one behind a Tier 1 door. It’s also relatively close to where you’ll find the sixth Bone.

Continue on the main path from the sixth Bone until the path splits and you need to head into the mountain’s interior with the massive Taken orb. Instead of going inside, continue straight forward further up the mountain – this is also the path you need to take to reach one of the bonus chest spawn points – and you’ll soon spot a sneaky stone corridor crafted into the left side of the pathway.

As expected, you will find the seventh Bone of Hefnd within, locked behind a Tier 1 door.

Ahamkara Bone 8 (Tier 3)

The eighth Ahamkara Bone is pretty easy to find, mainly because it’s right next to one of the most memorable locals in Warlord’s Ruin: it’s right next to the gigantic floating Taken orb within the innards of the mountain.

Carefully make your way through the debris and take care of any pesky Scorn snipers who come to bother you until you reach a safe area covered in a lot of ice. At this point, instead of continuing upwards to the exit, turn your attention down and you should notice a path of broken rocks leading to a hidden pathway below.

Jump down this path and you’ll be able to get your hands on the eighth Bone of Hefnd from behind a Tier 3 door.

Ahamkara Bone 9 (Tier 3)

Lastly, we come to the final Ahamkara Bone locked behind a door and likely the last Bone most Guardians will find on their search for all of Hefnd’s pieces. This time, continue past the massive Taken orb until you come to the slightly smaller Taken orb surrounded by several broken bits of the mountain.

The cliffs around this second orb are full of little secrets and hidden passageways, including one which leads to the last possible spawn location for the Warlord’s Ruin bonus chest. However, the passage directly across from where you enter this location is where you need to go as that’s where the final Tier 3 door is.

Ahamkara Bone 10

The final Ahamkara Bone in Warlord’s Ruin is at the end of the Dungeon. This is the only Ahamkara Bone not locked behind a door and will be the first set of Bones most Guardians will collect.

Once you defeat the final boss – Hefnd’s Vengeance – you will teleported to the top of a tower to collect your loot. Before you go traipse off to search for secrets or head back to orbit, look to the left of the final loot chest and you should find the last set of Ahamkara Bones staring back at you.
