Unlocking this Spirit takes a bit of legwork, though, especially because it also involves collecting several Rice Cocoons, another oddity from the Webbed Hollow.

Here’s how to use the Proto-Amourworm and Rice Cocoons to obtain the Elder Amourworm Spirit in Black Myth: Wukong.

How to Obtain the Proto-Amourworm in Black Myth: Wukong

The first Key Item you’ll need to obtain is the Proto-Amourworm, which you can find within the Webbed Hollow. This material drops as a reward for defeating the Elder Amourworm boss, which you’ll find by The Verdure Bridge sub-area within the Webbed Hollow.

Starting from the Keeper’s Shrine, make your way across the bridge and then head left from where the Grasshopper Guai emerges. Keep going down this path until you find an odd room to the right of the path. This dark chamber contains five chests to open, all of which contain a variety of goodies, including a new Gourd and a new Medicine recipe. However, your goal lies on the other side of this room as, through a wall of webs, you’ll arrive at the Elder Amourworm boss fight.

This boss is essentially just a large version of the Amourworms you’ve fought up to this point, with the added ability to spray poison all over the arena. At this point in Black Myth: Wukong, the Elder Amourworm won’t be anything too serious, especially if you just spam your Transformation abilities over and over. At the end of the fight, you’ll be awarded a decent amount of Will as well as the Proto-Amourworm.

How to Obtain Rice Cocoons in Black Myth: Wukong

The second material you’ll need to get your hands on is Rice Cocoons, which you can also find within the depths of the Webbed Hollow. These strange white and blue orbs are said to be offerings to the Silkworm Deity and, unlike most other Key Items, you’re able to sell them for a small amount of Will, which most players likely ended up doing to any they stumbled across. Do not sell your Rice Cocoons.

You’ll need a total of three Rice Cocoons in order to complete the Elder Amourworm Quest in Black Myth: Wukong and, fortunately, they’re relatively simple to go out and collect. To obtain Rice Cocoons, you simply need to destroy the various webbed cocoons in Chapter 4 until one drops. The larger and more bulbous cocoons seem to have a higher chance of dropping them.

The best place in Chapter 4 to find these webbed cocoons is the Bonevault. The path after the Centipede Guai boss battle is full to bursting with these creepy cocoons, giving you ample access to the cocoons. Once you obtain, and use, three of the Rice Cocoons, they will stop spawning.

Elder Amourworm Spirit Quest Guide

Once you have the Proto-Amourworm and three Rice Cocoons on hand, you can begin the Elder Amourworm Quest in Black Myth: Wukong. However, before that, you must unlock the Ruyi Scroll Secret Area, a special hub location where all of the merchants and vendors you meet across the game gather. Unlocking the Ruyi Scroll is tied to Chen Loong’s questline.

If you’d like to learn more about how to start and complete that quest, you can find our guide to unlocking the Ruyi Scroll here on KeenGamer

Give Chen Loong the Proto-Amourworm

Give Chen Loong the Proto-Amourworm

With the Ruyi Scroll unlocked and the items in hand, visit Chen Loong within the sanctuary. If you have the Proto-Amourworm in your inventory, he’ll ask to take it off of your hands, hoping that his expertise may enlighten the situation. At this point, rest at a Keeper’s Shrine or travel somewhere else; when you return to the Ruyi Scroll, a new friend will be waiting for you.

To the right of the baskets where you can claim Chen Loong’s ingredients, you will find the Proto-Amourworm. Unlike the ones you fought in the Webbed Hollow, this Amourworm is tiny and harmless but it won’t stay that way for long. At this point, you must feed the Proto-Amourworm three Rice Cocoons. Once it has devoured all three cocoons, rest at the Keeper’s Shrine once more.

This time, when you return to feed the Amourworm, you’ll only be able to find a purple Spirit. Absorbing this Spirit into your Gourd will unlock the Elder Amourworm Spirit.

So, in short:

  1. Give Chen Loong the Proto-Amourworm in the Ruyi Scroll
  2. Rest or travel somewhere else
  3. Return to the Ruyi Scroll and feed the baby Amourworm three Rice Cocoons
  4. Rest or travel somewhere else again
  5. Claim the Elder Amourworm Spirit from where you fed the baby Amourworm

Elder Amourworm Spirit Overview

The Elder Amourworm Spirit transforms you into the massive, hulking form of a giant Elder Amourworm, the same kind you fought down in the Webbed Hollow. This is one of the required Spirits you need to unlock for the Fickle Forms achievement or trophy.

The main attack of the Elder Amourworm Spirit is Foul Spray. You take the form of the Elder Amourworm and spray venom from your tail to form poisonous pools on the ground around you, stacking Poison Bane on any foes who tread upon them. This attack creates a lot of these poison pools which persist for a rather long time, greatly increasing the chance of your foes being Poisoned. As for the Elder Amourworm’s Equipped Effect, it will slightly increase your Critical Hit Chance whenever you’re in the Poisoned state.

While it isn’t the strongest overall Spirit, the Elder Amourworm is a great fit for certain niche builds, such as ones focused on Poison Bane. With a long Spirit Attack animation and an easy way to Poison stationary targets over a large radius, the Elder Amourworm has a lot of potential, especially in conjunction with its Unique Effect. Run the Elder Amourworm with either the Spider Celestial Staff or the Visionary Centipede Staff and you have a rather potent combo when it comes to inflicting and benefitting from Poison.

That was how to unlock the Elder Amourworm Spirit and how to use the Proto-Amourworm and Rice Cocoon Key Items in Black Myth: Wukong
