Location of Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong

This Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong is located wandering around near the Forest of Wolves, just off of “Outside the Forest Shrine.” From that shrine, take every opportunity to turn right, drop the wolves blocking the path, cross a bridge, and look for a clearing. The Wandering Wight is the tall, blue figure walking around this open area, lowly guarding a cave leading deeper into the chapter. You’ll be able to visibly spot him well before you decide to fight or move past him.

Preparing for the Wandering Wight

Facing the Wandering Wight early on can be challenging due to limited stats, skills, and spells at that stage. If you encounter him without unlocking your first Transformation spell, the battle will be even harder.

Instead, head left from the Forest Shrine and cross the upper bridge to fight the first main boss, Guangzhi. Defeating him grants the Red Tides Transformation, giving you a second health bar when transformed, which greatly boosts your chances against the Wandering Wight.

Keep in mind, that the Wandering Wight roams the area, so you can bypass him and return later when you’re stronger. His Spirit summon becomes available later in Chapter 1. The fight is tough, as he deals heavy damage, so learning his move set is essential.

How to Defeat the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong

Defeating the Wandering Wight involves recognizing its attacks and dodging them. While this might sound simple, it’s not always easy, but the good news is that its most powerful moves are clearly signaled in advance.

Running Clap Attack by Wandering Wight

  • Swipe and Shuffle Combo: This is the Wight’s primary attack, wherein it lowers itself and shuffles towards you with its hands. Surprisingly, the range is wide and the boss circles. The best approach here is to either back away or dodge behind him to avoid damage.
  • Palm Earthquake Attack: This is one of the most dangerous moves; Wight slams his palm into the ground, which causes an eruption where it strikes. Sometimes, the attack may continue onward, radiating out three or four more shockwaves, each larger than the last.
      • This is an AoE attack, so you should ideally run away the moment his hand goes down. If you’re feeling confident in your timing, you can dodge through each of the shockwaves for an opportunity to attack.
  • Stomp Combo: The Wight will also use a stomp attack, which has some considerable windup as it lifts its foot high before coming down. The second you see this, back away; the area of effect is large and deals considerable damage.
      • Sometimes, after that, it may do more stomps, or it may even do a head slam; be very careful when re-engaging.
  • Jumping Stomp: The Wandering Wight will jump in the air and attempt to squash you. Pretty fast, though it’s predictable by his feet leaving the ground. Dodging to the side upon his descent will keep you safe.
  • Hand Blast: It is the most vicious of the three because of the swift wind-up and high damage. Wight pulls his hand back and swiftly propels it forward to send a wide line of energy toward you. The best way to handle this is by side-dodging or at least rolling through at just the right time.
  • Running Clap: The Wight will crouch and set its hands to its sides in a running clap attack. You can either run away right away or if you want to take some more time, wait until he gets close to you and dodges. Sometimes he’ll also begin running with wiggly arms and slam the ground, but the way to not take any damage is the exact same.
  • Headbutt: Sometimes, the Wight will slam his head into the ground quick move that requires fast reaction time. If you see him pull his head back slightly, dodge back immediately for the hit wouldn’t connect.

Key Strategies for Victory

To win this fight, focus on avoiding as many hits as possible, as the Wandering Wight’s attacks deal significant damage, often requiring several heals to recover. It’s safer to back away from attacks rather than dodge them to increase your survival chances.

Your best tools in this battle are Transformation and Immobilize. Use Red Tides right at the start to gain an extra health bar and boost your damage. While transformed, rely on heavy attacks to set the Wandering Wight on fire, causing damage over time. Immobilize is also useful, allowing you to deal damage safely and possibly stagger the boss with strong hits.

To destabilize the Wight, use focus-powered heavy strikes to knock him off balance, creating opportunities for further attacks. Sometimes, you can trick him into charging into the stone poles in the area, briefly stunning him, though this isn’t always reliable, as he can destroy them with his earthquake attack.

The key is finding the right distance—close enough to prevent constant charges, but far enough to dodge major attacks. Learn his patterns, and you’ll know when to strike and when to retreat.

Rewards for Defeating the Wandering Wight

When you defeat the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll be rewarded with the Cat’s Eye Beads Curio, crafting materials, and the Wandering Wight Spirit. Once you unlock Spirit absorption later in Chapter 1, you can briefly transform into the Wandering Wight, using his head slam for heavy damage. Equipping his Spirit also grants a significant defense boost, which is especially useful in the early stages of the game.
