Astro Bot | What A Trip! Trophy Guide (How to Defeat Seven Enemies With the Tripcaster)

In this quick and easy-to-follow guide, we'll show you how to defeat seven enemies with the Tripcaster and earn the rare What A Trip! trophy in Astro Bot. Machine Learning is a Horizon-themed level featuring Aloy and her machine adversaries, but it also features a hidden trophy for taking down seven opponents with the Tripcaster.

Alongside being an amazing platformer, Astro Bot is also a loving tribute to the history of Sony, with five iconic PlayStation properties in particular being celebrated with their own themed levels. This includes the likes of Sony juggernauts Kratos and Atreus from God of War to aged mascot Spike from Ape Escape, but the freshest face in the roster is Aloy, the leading lady of the Horizon series. Her level, Machine Learning, comes at the end of the Astro Bot’s fifth galaxy, the Feather Cluster and, like with most of the other PlayStation-themed levels, there’s a secret trophy to be earned within it.

What A Trip! is a Bronze Trophy which requires you to defeat seven enemies with the Tripcaster during Machine Learning. While fans of Horizon: Zero Dawn or Horizon: Forbidden West may understand immediately what to do, people less familiar with the game may find themselves a bit lost, especially because Astro is only able to use Aloy’s bow during this level. Well, fortunately, we’re here to give you a hand.

Here’s how to earn the What A Trip! trophy during the Machine Learning level in Astro Bot.

What is a Tripcaster?

In the Horizon series of games, the Tripcaster is a specialised stealth tool Aloy can use to string up a variety of tripwires and lines around the map. These wires are primarily used to snag larger machines, stunning or immobilising them for a moment.

Meanwhile, in Astro Bot, the Tripcaster isn’t a weapon Astro can wield inside of Machine Learning, the Horizon-themed planet: only Aloy’s trusty bow makes the jump over to chibi form. Instead, located in certain parts of the level you’ll find these electrified purple tripwires. These are the Tripcaster lines mentioned in What A Trip!

These Tripcaster lines will damage Astro, as well as enemies when they come into direct contact with them. You can also sever the Tripcaster lines by hovering over them, snapping them in half with your lasers and rendering their power useless.

How to Defeat Seven Enemies With the Tripcaster in Astro Bot

Now that you know what the Tripcaster is in Astro Bot, how can you use them to defeat seven enemies to obtain the What A Trip! trophy?

After your first encounter with the purple Tripcaster lines, you’ll jump up to a small clearing where a cluster of three Tripcaster lines are separating a group of enemies. In total, there are seven opponents in this area, giving you exactly enough adversaries for your trophy. The tricky part is making them walk into the lines as they’re smart enough not to just wander into them randomly.

Instead, you need to carefully hop over each wire and get within striking distance of the enemies. Once you’re close enough to them, they’ll begin charging toward you, at which point you just need to jump back over the wire and they’ll run right into it. If you’re too careless, they will knock you into the Tripcaste. Also, when hopping over the wires, be sure not to trigger your hover jump. Destroying or two of the Tripcaster shots with your lasers isn’t disastrous but it does make it way harder.

Additionally, make sure not to defeat any of these opponents with something other than the Tripcaster: aside from this group, there aren’t any extra robots for you to lure into the Tripcatser, so if you accidentally destroy one with your bow or even your fists, What A Trip! will slip between your fingers. If you do accidentally destroy one (which will most commonly happen when hovering), just jump off the edge of the nearby cliff to restart the checkpoint

Once you have lured all seven of the robots to their electric doom, the What A Trip! trophy will pop, bringing you one step closer to Astro Bot’s coveted Platinum Trophy.
