All Starter Locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disc

One of the biggest selling points of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disc is how it gives trainers the ability to catch beloved Pokemon from the series’ past. From a host of returning Pokemon who haven’t been in a game in forever, such as the fan-favourite Minior, to almost every single Legendary and Mythical in Pokemon history, there are plenty of fun things for trainers to find in the Terrarium. Perhaps the most enticing of these additions for veteran trainers is the fact that you can catch all of the starters from Generations 1 to 8 in the Terrarium.

Whether your favourite is Charmander or Squirtle, Treeko or Torchic, Turtwig or Piplup, you can find them out in the Terrarium of Blueberry Academy. However, it isn’t as simple as wandering out into one of the game’s four Biomes and instantly finding your chosen starter: as special, elusive Pokemon, you’ll need to find a way to make each of Biomes interesting enough to attract these special creatures and that will involve a ton of BP grinding.

Here’s how to unlock previous Generation starter Pokemon spawns in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disc, as well as where to find all of the starters from Generation 1 to 8.

How to Find Past Starters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disc

To make the previous Generation Starter Pokémon appear in the Terrarium, you need to increase the biodiversity of each of its four biomes. The way to do this is by donating Blueberry Points… and you’ll need a lot of BP if you’re looking to catch ’em all.

To donate BP, you’ll need to have progressed through the Indigo Disc main story to the point where you meet up with Carmine and Drayden. They’ll bring you to the League Club Room and introduce you to the Support Board, which you can access via a computer inside of the Club Room.

At the bottom of the Support Board, you’ll find four requests from the Terrarium Club, all asking you to donate BP so that they may raise the biodiversity of the Pokemon within each of the Terrarium’s four biomes – Coastal, Canyon, Polar and Savanna – and, if you do so, certain starter Pokemon will begin appearing in those regions. However, it’s a very costly service, as each biome requires 3000 BP to raise the biodiversity, totalling 12,000 BP if you want all of the starters

Best Way to Get BP

If you’re eager to get starter hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disc and want to get as much BP as possible as quickly as possible, there are a few ways to do so.

The main way to get BP is by completing quests inside the Terrarium and there are three kinds of quests: Regular Quests (blue), Strong Quests (red), and Group Quests (yellow). The harder the quest, the more BP they award and you’ll only unlock the more difficult quests by completing lower difficulty ones. For example, every 10 Regular Quests completions you’ll get a new Strong Quest.

If you want to farm BP most efficiently, join a Union Circle with some friends. You can do it with just one but the more the merrier as it will speed up the process dramatically. When there is more than one player in the same world, you’ll each get your own Quest list but, most importantly, you can contribute to each other’s quests. This will allow you to get through them at a much faster pace than if you were on your own. You’ll also be able to get access to Group Quests, which are unlocked every 3 Strong Quests, which award a staggering 500 BP per.

With two people in the same world just dedicated to completing quests, we managed to get about 6000 BP in under an hour and that would’ve gone even faster if there were three or four of us. Completing Group Quests is the most lucrative source of BP gains and, with up to four people contributing to Quests at the same time, playing co-op is easily the best way to earn BP in The Indigo Disc.

Starter Pokémon Locations in The Terrarium

Once you’ve saved up enough BP, you can head back to the League Club Room and donate to the Terrarium Club to get access to some nostalgic old friends.

With its biodiversity raised, each Biome in the Terrarium has six possible starters which can spawn within them. If you want all of the starters, you will need to increase the biodiversity of every single Biome. For example, Charmander can only spawn in the improved Savanna Biome and nowhere else.

As such, if there’s a specific starter on your mind, check the list of where they will spawn before putting down your hard-earned BP.

Savanna Biome Starters

In the improved version of the Savanna Biome in The Indigo Disc, you can find the following starter Pokémon:

  • Charmander (Generation 1)
  • Totodile (Generation 2)
  • Snivy (Generation 5)
  • Fennekin (Generation 6)
  • Rowlet (Generation 7)
  • Sobble (Generation 8)

As with most Pokémon spawns in these games, look for the Starters near areas which fit their nature. In the Savanna region, Water-type starters are most commonly found by the Biome’s muddy pools, whereas Fire-type ones are more likely to spawn near large open plains and Grass-type ones can spawn near any large patch of fresh grass.

Coastal Biome Starters

Meanwhile, in the northeastern Coastal Biome, you’ll find the following starter Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disc

  • Bulbasaur (Generation 1)
  • Chikorita (Generation 2)
  • Mudkip (Generation 3)
  • Froakie (Generation 6)
  • Popplio (Generation 7)
  • Grookey (Generation 8)

Like before, seek out key areas and pieces of geography to pinpoint the starter’s locations. Water-type starters are easy to find in the Coastal region as you just need to head to the coastline and the large stretches of open water. On the other hand, Grass-types would likely remain further inland on one of the Biome’s many grass-covered islands. As a result of the Biome’s unique layout and proximity to the sea, Fire-type starters don’t appear in the Coastal Biome.

Canyon Biome Starters

Next on the list is the Canyon Biome, which can be found in the southwestern portion of the Terrarium. Here, you’ll find the following starters in The Indigo Disc DLC:

  • Squirtle (Generation 1)
  • Treeko (Generation 3)
  • Turtwig (Generation 4)
  • Tepig (Generation 5)
  • Chespin (Generation 6)
  • Litten (Generation 7)

Fire types reign supreme here, lording over the long stretches of craggy mountains and stony gorges. Meanwhile, Grass-type starters will stick to the few bits of foliage, predominately those to the south of the Biome, whereas Water-types can be found near the open sources of water on the canyon floor.

Polar Biome Starters

Last, but certainly not least, is the Polar Biome to the northwest. This chilly area is home to the following Pokémon Starters in The Indigo Disc

  • Cyndaquil (Generation 2)
  • Torchic (Generation 3)
  • Chimchar (Generation 4)
  • Piplup (Generation 4)
  • Oshawott (Generation 5)
  • Scorbunny (Generation 8)

If Water types like Oshawott and Piplup are your main goal, the cold, ice-laden water to the north of the Biome will be your best bet. On the other hand, the Fire-type starters are far more likely to be found in the cold mountainous ranges which cover most of the Biome’s southern half. As for Grass type starters… there aren’t any in the Polar Biome, likely due to the lack of any actual plants on account of all the snow: so, if you have a green thumb, avoid investing in the Polar Biome until later.
