The scene is set on the pay-per-view event that happens after WrestleMania, and that is WWE Backlash. All the action kicks off in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 6th, 2023. Here are my predictions as to what will go down in the matches on that night.
Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn vs. The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso)
This promises to be the trio’s tag match that we all expect it to be. The Bloodline’s Jimmy and Jey Usos have something to prove after losing their match and tag team titles at WrestleMania 39. With the help of The Bloodline’s enforcer by their side, they will go up against the team of Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. Bad blood is written all over this matchup. Since The Bloodline has more to prove, and Solo Sikoa has only suffered one defeat on the main roster…I’m going with The Bloodline to win by Solo Sikoa pinning Matt Riddle.
Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar made this personal with the cheap shot attack on Cody Rhodes on Raw. With retribution that is only on the mind for Cody Rhodes…It is hard to go against Cody Rhodes in this bout. He has the strong mindset to get his revenge on the beast at Backlash in Puerto Rico. Will he get the job done? If there are no outside shenanigans during the match, I’m going with Cody Rhodes to barely pull out a victory against Brock Lesnar. But it will indeed be a hard-fought match nevertheless.
Rhea Ripley vs. Zelina Vega
Zelina Vega will be facing Rhea Ripley on her home turf. One of the members of the LWO will have her work cut out for her as she fights a member of The Judgment Day. Even though I think that Zelina Vega will be at the top of her game surrounded by the home crowd…I believe that Rhea Ripley will inevitably pick up the win in this match.
Seth “Freakin” Rollins vs. Omos
Another great match is set up at this event, as Seth Rollins will go one on one with Omos. Even though the tall giant Omos has lost his last two big fights as of late…both times it could have easily gone the other way. Even Brock Lesnar was all beaten and worn out after his match against Omos at WrestleMania 39. Seth Rollins is riding a wave of confidence however given to him by the WWE faithful. They have been behind him for months now. So, who do I think will win this match? Although I truly feel that Seth Rollins will win at the end of the night in Puerto Rico…I want to see Omos pick up a victory because I think he is the most in need of a win at this point. How many times can the giant Omos come so close, and yet, lose his matches when it is all said and done?
Austin Theory vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed
Triple H made an announcement on Raw that puts this outcome in the air more so than before. When he introduced the new World Heavyweight Championship. On Raw, Austin Theory was eyeballing the new title as he was in the ring cutting a promo. If you asked me a week ago who would win this match, hands down I would have leaned in Austin Theory’s direction. But with this new championship debuting on Raw, it’s anybody’s guess. It could go either way with the two younger talents in the competition…that being Austin Theory and Bronson Reed. Maybe, this will be the last match before Austin Theory moves on to the main event title, or maybe he might just stay in place. My gut is going with Bronson Reed, but I’m picking the veteran Bobby Lashley to pull out a victory in this matchup. Give him one more championship run.
Bianca Belair vs. Iyo Sky
The EST of the WWE goes head-to-head with Iyo Sky. Bianca Belair is looking good, and I can’t see her losing this match at WWE Backlash against one of the members of Damage Control. That is…if it is a fair bout.
Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest
Hot off the press on the April 24th episode of Raw, Bad Bunny announced that he would be having a match at Backlash against Damian Priest in a street fight. This one promises to be an explosive situation as no doubt Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio will be watching closely. The match will be intense as anything goes…however, the member of The Judgment Day will pick up the three count when it is all said and done.
There you have it, my predictions for WWE Backlash.
