The Sims 4 Reaper’s Rewards Event Week 4 Guide

This guide will walk you through Week 4 of The Sims 4's Reaper's Rewards Event, where things aren't getting any easier as you have to procure a Death Flower, something that will challenge your Gardening skills that you've been honing these past weeks.

The Sims 4 Reaper's Rewards Event Week 4 Guide

We’re now halfway through the Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4, and this week (Week 4), things are getting a little trickier. We’ve got the first ingredient for Ambrosia, the Angelfish, but now we need to obtain the second ingredient: the Death Flower. If you had a hard time catching an Angelfish, that’s nothing compared to getting a Death Flower. Your Gardening skills are really going to be put to the test this week. Plus, you won’t be neglecting your Cooking skills any time soon, including Gourmet Cooking. Remember that you’ll need them at level 10 before you can even think about making Ambrosia. You may have all the ingredients gathered, but without the right skills, Ambrosia will still be out of reach. This description of Week 4 of The Sims 4‘s Reaper’s Rewards Event may seem daunting, but we’re here to take you through this week’s list of tasks in the two quests.

If you’d like a reminder of the first three weeks of the Reaper’s Rewards Event, we have you covered:

Death’s Favorite Flower Quest Walkthrough

Total Quest Event Points: 500

As you might have guessed from the title, this quest is all about producing the Death Flower. I won’t lie to you when I say that this is a tricky task. It’s not impossible, but it is time consuming (especially if you’re working with Seasons), as well as fiddly. However, saying that, The Sims 4 has been extremely generous and understanding in that not everyone wants to slog away trying to produce a Death Flower. If you really don’t want to go through all that hassle and just want to get on with it, there is an alternate option. I’ll divulge in this later. For now, here’s the first quest of Week 4 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event.

Research Ambrosia on Your Phone, Tablet, or Computer

Event Points: +25

Now being four weeks into the Reaper’s Rewards Event, it seems likely that you’ll want a reminder on Ambrosia. For this first task then, you’ll need to Research Ambrosia on either your Sim’s phone, a tablet, or a computer.

  • On the phone, the Research Ambrosia option is found under the blue Home app.
  • On the tablet, Research Ambrosia will come up as an option along with all the other interactions.
  • On the computer, Research Ambrosia appears alone instead of in one of the computer’s sub-menus.
Do some research on Ambrosia on any device.

Do some research on Ambrosia on any device.

Whichever means of doing this interaction is entirely up to you, but when you do, a pop-up notification with information appears in the top corner of your screen. It says that the Death Flower is the Grim Reaper’s favorite flower. If offered to him when a Sim has died, he will allow the Sim to continue living. The Death Flower is indeed a very powerful item to have, but it is also very rare. On a final note, your Sim’s research tells you that a Death Flower can be obtained by grafting a Pomegranate to an Orchid. All this gives you a lot to take away, especially that last part, so make a note of it!

Obtain a Death Flower

Event Points: +65

The Reaper’s Rewards Event certainly isn’t wasting any time this week! Right after researching Ambrosia, your next task is to obtain a Death Flower. Okaaay…

Things have been cruising along quite nicely these past few weeks, but now things are getting real. Getting a Death Flower is no easy feat. It’s not downright impossible, but it’s no picnic either. Things are especially difficult if you have The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack installed.

To give you a brief, Death Flowers are one of the rarest plants you can get in The Sims 4. There are a few ways to get one, but we’ll explain the classic route that The Sims 4 encourages you to go on first. Death Flowers have to be procured in a special way: by grafting! Grafting is an action you unlock with the Gardening skill at level 5. Hopefully by this point, your Sim is a level 5 Gardener, so you’ve already ticked one requirement off.

You’ll have already played around with grafting in last week of the Reaper’s Rewards Event, but here’s a quick reminder of how it works. Grafting is actually quite straightforward. You take a cutting from a plant with the Take Cutting action, then splice it onto another plant with the Graft action. This creates a unique hybrid plant, where the two different harvestables grow depending on what you grafted the plant onto. If you graft two specific plants, they may produce a unique plant not normally available. By grafting, you can obtain rare plants.

You can take a cutting from any plant and then graft it onto another to produce a hybrid plant.

You can take a cutting from any plant and then graft it onto another to produce a hybrid plant.

There are a few things you need to know about grafting though. You can only take a cutting from a fully mature plant, aka it needs to be grown to the stage where it can produce harvestables. It’s the same story for grafting onto a plant. The target plant must also be fully mature. Additionally, with Seasons, things get a little more complicated. You can only take cuttings from and graft onto plants that are in season. That’s why this particular task of the Reaper’s Rewards Event is so difficult: the different plants you need to graft to eventually get a Death Flower is in season at different times. We’ll show you what times of year the different plants you need come into harvest:

  • Lily: Summer
  • Snapdragon: Spring and Fall
  • Apple: Fall
  • Cherry: Summer
  • Orchid: Spring and Winter
  • Pomegranate: Winter
  • Death Flower: Winter
Having Seasons makes it more difficult to manage plants. You may have to grow them indoors.

Having Seasons makes it more difficult to manage plants. You may have to grow them indoors.

Getting a Death Flower the Hard Way

To get a Death Flower via grafting, this is what you need to do. You need to be growing four different plants: an apple tree, cherry tree, lily flower, and snapdragon flower. You can either plant these outside, or you can plant them indoors. If you do the latter, you need to plant each plant in a planter. With trees, you also need to make sure the planter isn’t against a wall, and that there are no overhead hanging objects or lights. The tree won’t grow otherwise, so if you are going to grow plants indoors, make sure you have a big space for it. Be aware that “Sheltered” plants take longer to grow and produce harvest, and they don’t produce as many harvestables as an outdoor-growing plant.

It also doesn’t hurt to have more than one of each plant, in case a plant dies or you want to graft multiple plants. It’s best to be prepared.

By researching a plant, you can find out what hybrids you get from grafting.

By researching a plant, you can find out what hybrids you get from grafting.

Now you have the four plants, this is what you need to do:

  1. Wait for the lily, snapdragon, apple, and cherry plants to fully mature.
  2. Take a cutting from an apple tree, then graft it onto a cherry tree.
  3. Take a cutting from a lily plant, then graft it onto a snapdragon plant.
  4. Wait for the two plants to fully mature and produce harvestables.
  5. Once harvestables appear on the plants, hover over the Harvest Harvestables to see what the plant has produced. You should harvest the plant regardless, but it may produce either a pomegranate or orchid, respectively.
  6. Once you’ve procured a pomegranate and orchid, harvest them and keep them safe in your Sim’s Inventory. It’s a good idea to get more of each plant as well, just in case.
  7. Plant at least one orchid and one pomegranate, but having more doesn’t hurt.
  8. Do everything you need to in order to fully mature them and keep them healthy. Make sure you water them, weed them, spray for bugs. Other tasks like talking to the plant and researching them is good too. Just make sure they fully mature and don’t die!
  9. As soon as the pomegranate and orchid have fully matured, take a cutting from the pomegranate and graft it onto the orchid. If you have more than one of both pomegranate and orchid, do the same for these in case something happens to the first plant.
  10. Wait for the grafted pomegranate/orchid hybrid plant to fully mature. With any luck, you should get a Death Flower harvestable!

Phew! It sounds a lot of work, doesn’t it? All this growing and grafting! But it is doable. You just need skills, time, and patience. Eventually, you’ll get yourself that Death Flower. The minute you’ve got one in your Sim’s Inventory, this task will be done, plus, you’ve got a Death Flower ready to be used for Ambrosia!

BUT…

Getting a Death Flower the Easy Way

What if you don’t want to go through all that hassle of growing and grafting to get a Death Flower? You can’t be blamed for not wanting to go to all that trouble. Maybe you’ve tried to get a Death Flower and it just isn’t working out, or you haven’t got the patience?

Fortunately, The Sims 4 has you covered. If you’re having a really hard time getting a Death Flower the hard way, there is another option: you can just order one via your Sim’s phone. Available just this once, you can order a Death Flower under the Home app. However, don’t think you’re getting it for free. It’ll cost you 1,300 Simoleons. It isn’t cheap, but it’s not outrageously expensive either (not like 10,000 Simoleons, for example). Unless you want to work the hard way to get a Death Flower, just save yourself the trouble and order it. However, watch out as this option isn’t always available. This is where doing this event in a multi-occupancy household is useful; if it’s not available for one Sim, it may be for another.

If you're finding it too difficult to graft a Death Flower or can't obtain it any other way, you can just order one on the phone for a hefty price.

Doing It Both Ways?

Whatever you choose to do, whether you get a Death Flower through grafting or just order it over the phone, is entirely up to you. We’re not judging you! One suggestion is that you can just order the Death Flower via the phone for the sake of completing this task (and the quest as a whole), then, if you wish, you can still go ahead and go through the process of grafting plants to get another Death Flower that way. This way, you’ll still complete the task but get the chance to try the grafting route anyway. And if you are successful, you should hopefully have a bunch of Death Flowers as back up. You can never have too many Death Flowers after all!

Whichever way you choose to do it, the key to this week is obtaining a Death Flower.

Other Ways to Get a Death Flower

If none of the options above appeal to you, there are a few other ways to get that elusive Death Flower.

If you have The Sims 4 Realm of Magic Game Pack, you might be lucky enough to find one at the alchemy supplies stall in The Magic Realm. It’ll cost you 1,200 Simoleons per flower.

Another option, if you don’t mind using cheats, is by using bb.showhiddenobjects in Build Mode. The Death Flower can be obtainable from there.

If you have level 10 Gardening skill, you can also purchase a rare plants seed packet, which might contain a Death Flower. This is a bit of a lottery though, and each packet costs 1,000 Simoleons, but if you’ve got money to burn, you can give this a try. You may get an orchid and pomegranate in this packet as well.

Talk to 3 Plants

Event Points: +25

This task is easy-peasy compared to getting the Death Flower. You just need to talk to 3 plants. It sounds a bit odd, but this is good for the plant and your Sim, as it boosts their Social Need.

The Talk to Plant interaction becomes available at level 4 Gardening skill.

Death’s Favorite Flower Quest Conclusion

Wow! This certainly was a big quest, what with getting that Death Flower. Whatever method you went with in obtaining a Death Flower, you now have one ready and waiting to be used for making Ambrosia, alongside your Angelfish.

Flirting With Death Quest Walkthrough

Total Quest Event Points: 500

The second quest of Week 4 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4 focuses on other aspects of making Ambrosia. The first quest was about getting the Death Flower, but this one gets your Sim’s Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills up to speed, as well as maintaining your relationship with the Grim Reaper and keeping your Satisfaction Points stacked up.

Wait for the Ambrosia Society Newsletter

Event Points: +15

Yep, this quest starts with this very same task. Just wait for the ASN to arrive in your Sim’s post. It should only take a few in-game hours, but if you want it right now, you can use the Expedite Mail Delivery option on your Sim’s phone under Home, if you don’t mind shelling out 103 Simoleons.

If you don't want to wait for the post, pay for a fast delivery.

Read the Ambrosia Society Newsletter

Event Points: +25

As soon as the ASN arrives in the post, the Wait task changes to Read. You first need to retrieve the newsletter from the mailbox, where it then appears in your Sim’s Inventory, then select it and choose Read. Look out for the pop-up notification to find out what’s in the newsletter this week.

The ASN talks about getting the Death Flower, but suggests that while you’re waiting to get it, you should work on your Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills.

Make sure to check the post for the latest edition of the Ambrosia Society Newsletter.

Cook a Recipe While Level 7 or Higher

Event Points: +35

This isn’t really a hard task, per se, but you do need to get your Cooking skill to at least level 7 to complete this task. Hopefully you’ve been building up your Cooking skill to get to this point. If not, get your Sims into the kitchen and get them busy cooking. Watching the cooking channel on TV and reading skill books doesn’t hurt either.

Cook a Gourmet Cooking Recipe While Level 4 or Higher

Event Points: +45

Your Sim isn’t quite done in the kitchen yet. This time, the event asks you to cook any gourmet meal while your Sim has a Gourmet Cooking skill of level 4 or higher. The only way to increase Gourmet Cooking skill is by either doing it or reading the skill books. I would suggest getting cooking because it builds the skill faster. Getting your Sim into the Inspired Mood is a good idea too, as this will boost GC skill gain faster.

The best way for your Sims to improve their Cooking skills is by actually doing it.

Flirt or Socialize With the Grim Reaper

Event Points: +25

This is an easy task. Providing you still have The Grimophone, use it to Summon the Grim Reaper. You can either be friendly with him, or even get flirty. A simple interaction will do, ticking off another task on your list.

Why not invite the Grim Reaper around to your place? This event is all about him after all.

Fulfil an Aspiration Goal

Event Points: +35

This task appeared in Week 3 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event, and it reappears this week. You just need to complete any task in your Sim’s Aspiration. If the list of tasks you have is a little difficult or time consuming to do, just switch the Aspiration out for something easy. You can always switch them back again after.

Flirting With Death Quest Conclusion

That’s another quest all done for the Reaper’s Rewards Event. As the game suggests, make sure you keep working on your Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills. I’ll be very surprised if they don’t come up in tasks the next week.

Reaper’s Rewards Event Week 4 Unlockable Rewards

Week 4 is certainly a challenge, but you’ll get rewarded handsomely for it. Check out all the available rewards you can get, including a spooky tattoo and an even spookier painting that might be haunted:

  • Metallic Freezer Boney (Inventory)
  • Life and Death Tattoo (Create-A-Sim)

Week 4 of Reaper’s Rewards Event Conclusion

What a week! That Death Flower task probably kept you busiest of all (depending on the method you used to obtain it). To summarize where you should be at this point, you should have an Angelfish and a Death Flower set aside for making Ambrosia, plus you need to keep building up your Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills. To make Ambrosia, they’ll need to be at level 10, so don’t rest on your laurels!

We’ll see you next time for Week 5 of the Reaper’s Rewards Event in The Sims 4, which commences on October 22nd. We’re getting closer to the end!
