The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Why Playing as Tommy Could Be Interesting

No Return mode in The Last of Us Part II Remastered brings the opportunity to play as Tommy. The series deserves to have a spin-off focusing on what Tommy did in both Part I and Part II. As a result, to get ready for fighting with enemies and revealing Tommy's mysteries, now is a good time to get to know him better.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Why Playing as Tommy Could Be Interesting

Naughty Dog recently released The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation. Fans are now delighted to rejoin the deadly and dangerous zombie-based world, but this time with an advanced version of the game bringing more features and levels to experience. Despite the significant advancements Naughty Dog has implemented for The Last of Us lovers, there is a new survival mode that takes players to the heart of a battlefield to endure and survive as long as they can. This mode owns an interesting feature.

While in the main story, the lead protagonists are only Ellie and Abby, having a chance to take control of other characters could be exciting. Naughty Dog had planned for this desire, and they introduced No Return. The mode gives players the control of many characters. You can play as Dina, Jesse, Lev, and even the beloved Joel. Each character, based on their abilities, has starting weapons and some limitations in the first place.

Among all playable characters, there is one person whose control is delightful: Joel’s brother, Tommy. In order to unlock Tommy, you have to complete three encounters with Jesse. The starting weapons are a military pistol and a custom sniper rifle. Having a sniper rifle totally makes sense. The Last of Us Part II already showed that he has incredible sniper rifle skills. In a mission while playing as Abby, you have to take cover from his long shots. The rifle is a great advantage against Runners and Clickers as you can even one-shot them. However, he can’t dodge attacks. The Dodging skill was a useful tool in Part II, and it’s strange that he can’t rely on it. Since the gameplay of the actual game was allocated to Ellie and Abby, playing as Tommy has the same feeling as Abby, such as the way he stealth kills the enemies.

The Last of Us Spin-off Potential

Tommy has had a considerable impact on The Last of Us story. As he was involved in both Part I and, specifically, Part II, it is highly expected to see a spin-off story exploring the secrets his life keeps. Since the spin-off is in high demand, and if created, fans would then have the opportunity to control Tommy, engaging in fights with hunters and the infected, and preparing players for future unexpected incidents will be advantageous.

Tommy’s Untold in TLOU 1 & 2

In both Part I and II, Joel’s younger brother left some unknowns. These ambiguous gaps have made players question his tale. How did he manage to survive and build up a large community in the Jackson city upon splitting from Joel in Part I? And in Part II, as he invited Ellie to join him on the journey of revenge, and Ellie rejected, what actually happened to him? Did he reach Abby and eventually leave her to remain tied up as she already was? Such missing portions of The Last of Us story could be filled making a detailed spin-off, not only unfolding the secrets, but also showcasing Tommy’s possible new combat abilities, particularly his hunting rifle skill.
