8 Games to Look Out for in September (2024)

Here is a selection of eight games releasing in September 2024 that you should look out for. Play a game of Quidditch, dive into a hardcore detective experience or take a trip into the world of Warhammer 40,000. September seems to be continuing the spree of exciting game releases. Take a look at our picks down below.

8 Games to Look Out for in SeptemberWelcome back to another list of upcoming games we think you should look out for next month. August provided a few interesting titles that either made a splash or a small whisper in the gaming space. One major release was the highly anticipated Black Myth Wukong which had us engaging with thrilling bosses all inspired by Chinese mythology. We also were greeted with the charming puzzle game Thank Goodness Your Here which had us explore a northern English town. To end August we got to finally play Ubisoft’s open-world Sci-Fi adventure, Star Wars Outlaws, providing a more scoundrel experience to the usual Star Wars formula.

August was a fantastic month though that doesn’t mean we didn’t have some disappointments along the way. The biggest one was the Sci-Fi multiplayer Concord that provided a hero shooter experience. However, the charm that was advertised wasn’t enough for many gamers to commit their time with only 697 concurrent players at launch on Steam. Hopefully, Concord can somehow dig themselves out of the early grave they’ve wound up in.

With that August has come to a close and September seems to be continuing the trend of exciting game releases. We have some highly anticipated releases from AAA games, remasters, games leaving early access, and more. We’ve got exciting multiplayer experiences, gruesome cinematic horrors, and the next big console exclusive from PlayStation. Well let’s not delay any further, here are eight games to look out for in September (2024).

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions

To start our list for September is another game set in the magical world of Harry Potter. Developed by Unbroken Studios, Harry Potter Quidditch Champions focuses on the wonderful sport that took place throughout the series. You’ll fly around on your own magic broom, competing in Quidditch against numerous teams. Back when Hogwarts Legacy was released, Quidditch was a missing feature that many players wanted. Now, we have a new game that’ll hopefully scratch that itch. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions releases on September 3rd for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

The next chapter in the world of wizards and witches is here. This time it’s all about the thrilling sport of Quidditch, the game that has wizards and witches competing for the gold. Pick your position from Chaser, Seeker, Keeper, and Beater. Each one has their role to play within the team, accompanied by unique play styles. Play in Career Mode where you’ll start from the bottom competing in backyard battles in the Weasley Burrow to the high-stakes showdowns at the Quidditch World Cup. Rise up the ranks solo or with up to three friends cooperatively.

Outside of Career Mode, play in both PvE and PvP game modes. Set up Exhibition Matches that allow you to set up your teams, map, and difficulty. Play against bots solo or again with up to three players in online co-op. Alternatively, if you’d rather play against real players, you can test your skills in competitive online matches with other Quidditch teams. Customise your team with a bunch of different options or you can play as iconic Harry Potter characters.

The Casting of Frank Stone

Next, we have a game from the developers that brought us Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology. Developed by Supermassive Games, The Casting of Frank Stone is a new tale of horror. Can you survive the horrors of that hide in the shadows?

In this horrific tale, explore the town of Cedar Hills where the dark shadow of Frank Stone looms over. Play as a group of young friends who stumble upon the gruesome crimes of Frank Stone. Take control of their fates as they explore the steel mill where his despicable acts took place. Unlike Supermassive’s other games, The Casting of Frank Stone is based in the same universe as Dead by Daylight. In this collaboration, expect to see new and already-established lore regarding the Entity and its connections with Frank Stone. Filled with spine-chilling twists, this dark original tale is certain to haunt you long after it’s over.

Although Supermassive is creating a game based in the Dead by Daylight universe, that doesn’t mean it’ll play the same. The Casting of Frank Stone will play similarly to Supermassive’s other games where the goal is to keep your cast of characters alive. Every decision made shapes the story and impacts the fate of each character. The Casting of Frank Stone is played in a third-person perspective and features various quick-time events and dialogue options. For those who find comfort in the unknown, The Casting of Frank Stone promises to bring new levels of emotion, immersion, and intensity to this darkly rich universe.

The Wild Bastards were taken down by a posse from the puritanical magnate Jebediah Chaste, who eliminated one outlaw after another. Now, the two remaining members team up with the Drifter, a mysterious sentient spacecraft, to resurrect the dead gang members as they flee to the mythical Homestead. After completing the main campaign, a challenge mode unlocks to offer a sequence of challenge sectors with increasingly difficult levels and mutators to modify the play experience.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

For fans of Zombie games, one of the best is getting a remaster next month. Developed by Capcom, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster brings the classic zombie slasher to modern hardware. This Deluxe Remaster is a full graphical overhaul of the original Dead Rising with new updated features and changes. Take on large hordes of zombies and use whatever you can find to take them out

The story of Dead Rising takes place in the peaceful town of Willamette, Colorado. Sadly things have gotten less peaceful, with the sudden outbreak of zombies. With the town quarantined, Frank West, a freelance journalist enters the picture on the trail for a hot scoop. He arrives at the only shopping mall in town though discovers quickly he’s arrived in a living hell. Countless zombies have infested the mall with many survivors trapped inside. Frank will need to save as many survivors as he can before help arrives in 72 hours. Alongside rescuing survivors Frank and his newly found comrades will investigate the truth behind the incident before it’s covered up.

Returning with a complete overhaul, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster runs on Capcom’s RE Engine. This brings all the gorgeous visuals we see in the recent Resident Evil games to Dead Rising‘s characters and environments. This remaster has also been fully voiced, supports auto-saves, and has various other quality-of-life features. Luckily the most important part of Dead Rising, the core gameplay remains intact, with some revamped controls and improved UI. To fend off zombies you’ll use regular weapons like guns, baseball bats or daily household objects. Anything goes when it comes to survival!

Frostpunk 2

Our next pick is for fans of city builders and survival games who also like challenging experiences. Frostpunk 2, developed by 11-bit Studios is the sequel to their hardcore management game set in a winter apocalypse. Set 30 years after an apocalyptic blizzard ravaged the Earth and left humanity struggling in an unending winter. Play as the Steward in charge of New London a city built around a massive furnace. You hold dominion over its citizens and their overall well-being. Deal with the well-being of your city and try to stay in power as long as you can. Decide how you deal with rebellions, random acts of anarchy and anything threatening to tip the balance of your careful micromanagement. Bicker with the city’s council and their faction leaders on what laws you’ll want to pass. As factional power rises it falls to you to mediate between competing interests and steer your city toward stability. Frostpunk 2 provides two ways to play whether in story mode witnessing numerous linear events or in sandbox mode experimenting with what you can do with your city.

Like the first game, you’ll build a city around a massive furnace that delivers heat to various workstations and gathering zones. The size of what you’ll be building has increased, instead of just individual buildings, you’ll create entire districts for resources and housing. Things may seem easy at first but will increasingly get difficult once the freezing winds get colder and your resources eventually run out. You’ll constantly make decisions regarding your citizens’ happiness and the city’s survival against the bitter cold. Other than dealing with riots, coups, and other human-made problems, grapple with harsh weather, deadly diseases and starvation.
