She is in for one hell of a night

She is in for one hell of a night

Synopsis:

Last Straw follows a waitress working the late shift who has to fight for her life when a group of killers attempt to invade the diner she works at.

Overview:

Last Straw sort of gives a Strangers or You’re Next vibe but in a much smaller location. The film has already some positive buzz coming out of it from film festivals. The trailer piqued my interest and the tight runtime is sure to be a benefit to the movie. It will probably hit the ground running and hopefully not outstay it’s welcome.

The Front Room

Release Date September 6th
Director Max Eggers, Sam Eggers
Main Cast Brandy Norwood, Andrew Burnap, Kathryn Hunter
Duration 94 minutes
This is sure to be an awkward dinner

This is sure to be an awkward dinner

Synopsis

Newly pregnant Melinda’s life slips into madness as her estranged mother-in-law moves into her home. The mother quickly begins to display strange behavior raising tensions in the couple’s once-peaceful home.

Overview

The Front Room makes the list for biggest horror movies in September based on how strange the trailer was. The premise itself doesn’t sound too terrifying, but the mother-in-law’s beliefs and how she presents herself is downright creepy. Based on the trailer, the film looks like it’s shaping up to be a great psychological horror film. It doesn’t hurt that A24 is the studio behind The Front Room. They always know how to pick winners.

Never Let Go

Release Date September 20
Director Alexandre Aja
Main Cast Halle Berry
Duration 101 minutes
Don't wander too far

Don’t wander too far

Synopsis

An evil has taken over the world leading a mother and her two sons to carefully navigate it, going so far as to tie themselves to one another with rope. But their safety is jeopardized when one of the boys questions if the evil is actually real.

Overview

Besides the intriguing premise shown off in the trailer for Never Let Go, Halle Berry and Director Alexandre Aja’s attachment to the project is promising. Aja has previously directed the well-known disturbing horror film The Hill Have Eyes. He has also recently worked on the very well-received Crawl, proving he makes great use of space and tension. With his long history of directing and producing horror films, Never Let Go is shaping up to be a great time.

Speak No Evil

Release Date  September 13
Director James Watkins
Main Cast James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis
Duration 110 Minutes

Synopsis

An American family is invited to a British country home by a family they met while on vacation. This excitement quickly turns to regret as they get wrapped up in a nightmare.

Overview:

Speak No Evil is a remake of a 2022 Danish film by the same name. It’s hard to say how well this remake will be received compared to the original. The main draw of this upcoming film however is 100% James McAvoy. I’m most excited to see his performance here. As Split has shown, McAvoy has a knack for playing these bizarre characters and it looks like he will bring that here. Blumhouse is behind this one and although their movies are more divisive, they are often full of fun premises and scares.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Release Date September 6th
Director Tim Burton
Main Cast Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega
Duration 104 minutes

Synopsis

Lydia’s nonbelieving daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens up a portal to the afterlife. Beetlejuice is brought back once again, unleashing mayhem, and maybe helping save Astrid in the process.

Overview

A sequel 36 years after the first, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a film that has been long anticipated. Although it probably won’t be the scariest movie on this list, it will certainly be the biggest on this list. The trailer’s bizarre visuals and scenarios give off that classic Halloween vibe. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is finally coming in September and what makes this film special is just about everyone is returning.

Director Tim Burton is back at the helm once again. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and the rest of the gang make a return. All signs are pointing to a worthy sequel to the 1988 classic and the biggest horror movie in September.
