Indika
Indika releases on 2nd May 2024 to PC, with a console release planned for later in the month.
First on our list of the biggest horror games releasing this May is Indika. The developers describe it as a third person story-driven game that explores themes of religion and authority. The trailers depict some fantastic visuals, with the story following a nun with an unusual companion.
Set in 19th century Russia, the story follows Indika, a young nun who goes on a journey of self-discovery, venturing beyond the walls of her convent with her companion the Devil himself. The great visuals and intriguing concept land Indika on our list of the biggest horror games coming out this May.
Autopsy Simulator
Autopsy Simulator launches on 9th May 2024 to PC.
If medical horror makes you squeamish then avoid this title, but if it interests you then check out Autopsy Simulator. This game was created in collaboration with forensic doctors to make it as anatomically accurate as possible. You will need to examine case files and dissect bodies to uncover the truth about your subjects, and yourself. The game mixes sim elements with horror moments as you delve into the story.
The games synopsis on the steam pages states ‘you play a middle-aged pathologist whose life has taken a turn for the worse. After a career downfall and the loss of your beloved wife, you live each day shattered and exhausted. One day during a routine post-mortem, you find a relic of your past hidden inside a body. Now, it feels like something just won’t let go…’
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 releases on 21st May 2024 on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the multi award-winning game from 2017. The game was praised for its story, gameplay and representation of psychosis. Developers Ninja Theory bring us back to Viking Iceland with the latest chapter of Senua’s story. It’s one of the biggest games of the year, with a more action-adventure focus with some horror elements. Ninja Theory have reworked the combat to make it more dynamic and realistic, whilst keeping elements such as the puzzles and runes used to advance.
The story continues to explore Senua’s mind, with her survival and conflict with Norse Mythology continuing. She aims to save those facing the horror of tyranny whilst battling darkness, both from within, and without.
Skald: Against the Black Priory
Skald: Against the Black Priory releases on 30th May 2024 on PC.
For those looking for a retro horror experience, consider the soon to be released Skald: Against the Black Priory. The game is an old school 8-bit party-based RPG. The setting takes inspiration from Lovecraftian horror and pits tragic heroes against a grim-dark fantasy setting. Gather your party, engage in tactical combat and fight, sneak or blast your way past enemies.
You play as a mercenary in Freymark and the Outer Isles, part of the vast Gallian Empire. Lead your damaged and broken heroes as you explore the world and make your way to the Black Priory and unravel the eldritch mysteries there.
The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication
The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication releases on 9th May 2024 on PC with a console release planned for a later date.
First-person Survival horror The Bridge 2: The Extrication is the final entry on our list of the biggest horror games releasing this May. Developed by SOFTSTAR Entertainment, the game has you solve puzzles as you play through the eyes of four different characters. It’s the sequel to The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation that was itself an adaptation of the horror movie. The protagonists are 3 university students and a news reporter caught up in a haunting ghostly tale with mind bending puzzles.
Set in Wen Hua University, a place renowned in Taiwan for its ghost stories and myths. A group of students set up a ‘carnival of horror’ in the allegedly haunted ‘Da Ren’ building. There plan to film a horror movie Is plunged into chaos when the line between reality and fiction blurs and they find themselves face to face with horror.
