The Casting of Frank Stone combines the lore of DBD with the story-telling prowess of Supermassive.

Overview

The Casting of Frank Stone takes the lore of horror behemoth Dead by Daylight and merges it with the storytelling prowess of Supermassive Games. This collaboration is not only perfect for avid fans of the Dead by Daylight universe, but also for those who have always been intrigued by the evil within, only to be scared away by the asymmetrical multiplayer aspect. The player directs a group of young filmmakers as they set out to create their own scary movie, only to have filming rudely interrupted by the cosmic horror of Dead by Daylight. In true Supermassive style, the narrative can be altered based on players decisions – or the fatal miss of a QTE.

Supermassive have also incorporated new features which seem to address flaws in their earlier games. Plunderer’s Instinct will aid with the tracking of collectibles, and the Cutting Room Floor allows the player to rewind, change their choices, and explore different outcomes. This will be a nice change in pace to the slightly tedious replaying required in Supermassive titles if you wish to see all the gruesome deaths. I mean, save everyone. The handy features unlock upon completing the game, however players who opt for the deluxe edition of The Casting of Frank Stone can use them during their first playthrough.

Hollowbody releases on 12th September and will be available on Steam.

Overview

The idea of the future is horrifying, as is the reality of a stereotypical British city. These two gritty ingredients help set the precedent for the story of Hollowbody. In the Hollowbody Kickstarter, solo developer Nathan Hamley mentions his influence comes from early 2000s survival horror titles, specifically Silent Hill, Rule of Rose and Kuon.

Combining gameplay elements of these old school classics with a world brought to ruin by a futuristic dystopian narrative, Hollowbody plans to place an emphasis on story and exploration. Following a crash landing, you will need to solve some environmental puzzles and gun down some monstrosities in order to evacuate the hostile town.

Psycho Fear will include a ‘butterfly effect’ style karma system too. Throughout the game you can gain and lose karma points based on your actions while inside the escape room; your choices can have karmic influence on overall difficulty, change the narrative, and when playing in co-op, impact the outcome for your friends.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster releases on 19th September and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Overview

The only journalist gamers respect returns in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Frank West and his camera must once again survive a mall swarming with the undead, with 72 in-game hours to kill until help arrives. The timed elements will still be a part of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, however the option to turn the timer off has been introduced, allowing players to explore at their leisure.

Despite the original voice actor for Frank not making a return, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be fully voiced alongside its graphical overhaul, which improves character animations, creates more tactile looking materials and makes the gore all the more unpleasant. Gameplay has received an upgrade too, with the ability to now move and shoot as well as a modernised control system promising for a smoother experience than the original.

Zoochosis

Zoochosis releases on 23rd September and will be available on Steam.

Overview

Zoochosis is a mental illness developed when animals in captivity aren’t having their care needs met to a satisfying standard. It is also the title of indie studio Clapperheads’ new horror game, which places you in charge of meeting the aforementioned care standards. As zookeeper, you will tend to the feeding, cleaning and enrichment of the creatures in your care.

However, the goal of this demented zoo tycoon is not to bring in a crowd. Instead you must find the root of the infection which is taking hold of the furry lil’ guys and mutating them into grotesque freaks of nature. Blending together simulation style gameplay with suspiciously techy zoo equipment and bodycam footage, Zoochosis is undeniably an odd but intriguing premise, which will hopefully be successful in its execution.
