Journey Back to Oz (1972)
well, I liked it anyway.
I haven't seen this film for years, but I remember loving it when I was about six years old - the main thing I remember about it was the song 'an elephant never forgets' which I thought was amazing and went around singing for weeks which drove my parents mad because they didn't like the movie very much. I'm glad Liza played Dorothy - it's only right that Judy Garland's daughter played her character in this cartoon sequel. *goes to dig out the video* I know it's the same character, and played by Judy's daughter who looks and sounds a lot like her, but No comparison can really be drawn from Journey Back to Oz and The Wizard of Oz as they are two completely different things - each with their merits and their weaknesses - but both (in my opinion) are brilliant and well worth a watch!
Hjælp! Jeg er en fisk (2000)
Fishtastic? I'm not convinced.
Not sure I would go so far as to say this film is 'fishtastic'. The only highlight for me was Terry Jones providing the voice for Professor MacKrill, and the interview with him in the DVD extras.
The rest of the film, I thought, was unremarkable - of course, there are 'cute' moments as there are in any children's films (usually in the shape of Sasha the seahorse and Stella the Starfish), and also occasionally funny moments. However, the 'baddies' were unconvincing (they just weren't mean enough - the guard crab was about as menacing as a sea slug.) and the colours were washed out.
It just seemed to me that this film was cheap (and poor) attempt at a Disney imitation.
I would have to say that the only part of this film that is worth watching more than once is the song 'Fishtastic, but true' as it is incredibly catchy - I found myself humming it for the rest of the day. The rest of the film really isn't up to much.
Erik the Viking (1989)
Definitely well worth a watch... or several!!!!
This movie contains every ounce of Terry Jones' wonderful, even if slightly warped sense of humour!
I have to admit that that the first time I watched it, I spent most of the time wondering what on earth was going on, but after brushing up on my Norse mythology, it was a lot more clear the second time around.
As with Jonesy's Python stuff, I found that every time I watch this movie, I notice something different, which just keeps adding to the enjoyment!
The DVD extras are also very good: The interviews with the actual stars, I thought was a bit brief; however, the interviews with Jonesy himself were very interesting and insightful; as are the 'making of' clips.
This film is definitely well worth a watch... or several!!!
