Oppenheimer (2023)
Mixed Bag
OH man, I know I'm going to get thumbs down but I kept checking my watch after the 2 hour, this film really was an auditory assault of tediousness, I think this is an example of a movie that is soooo overhyped, while it was a very good movie, acting great, visuals spectacular, I definitely recommend reading up on who's who, as Nolan goes right into it without giving much of an explanation I think probably about 30 minutes could have been trimmed and it would be fine, also I was lost as these characters breeze right through the dialogue with a LOUD soundtrack playing over them a la Aaron Sorkin (first scene of Social Network) Lastly, also be aware that the black and white scenes are the future while the color scenes are the past.
Reality (2023)
That's It??
If you're thinking it's going to be anything like Snowden, it's not- the acting isn't very good, because none of the characters have chemistry together, Sydney seems to be phoning in her performance, which is understandable since she's not given much to work with, this was like watching a play, since it's only set in one place, the distortion effects they did when they wanted to edit out information by making the actor disappear temporarily was so cheesy LOL, there are many movies out there like this one that do a better job, it's disappointing because I like Sydney Sweeny but this movie leaves you with more questions than answers.
Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023)
Disgusting
This was such an unfunny show, constant screaming and bad language does not equal funny, dave chappelle is so much bad at delivering quality comedy and in a calm and in control manner, here you could tell the audience was uncomfortable and forcing their laughter, terrible sex jokes about elon musk, pitting republicans vs. Democrats, also the whole bit with the abortion was just completely wrong and terrible, dave chappelle has mentioned aborition in his act but does so with much more tact, so sad to see this is what comedy has devolved into, gone are the days of quality comedians like george carlin and robin williams.
Outer Banks (2020)
This Show should have ended after season 1
Let's be real it's not exactly riveting television, however the first season was quite enjoyable, I liked the storylines and the different characters and how they interacted with each other, season 2 was kind of ridiculous and was just annoyed with how most of the characters acted and the decisions they made, (looking at you, Kiara) season 3 like others have said is just a bunch of running around for the most part, and I really don't have any connection with any of the characters even JJ who I liked in season 1 has become unlikeable,- the boy that plays Rafe, now he can act!! He def. Has a bright future ahead of him, but yea this season 3 just isn't exciting, and if it ended after season 1 I would have been fine with that.
That '90s Show (2023)
Thanks goodness for the OG cast
Netflix continues its streak of ruining most every thing it touches. To start it doesn't even feel like they're in the 90s, the set design and clothing is not quite right for this time period, the show doesn't even have a good soundtrack, also, the new characters are just plain ol unlikeable especially 'Leia' she just bugs the heck out of me everytime she speaks lol,,, the asian boy is decent, he's probably the only one that's not too bad- all i'm saying is thank goodness that the producers were able to get the original cast back, because the writing for the most part is terrible but at least they can sell it with their acting.
The Silent Twins (2022)
More suited to a documentary
First the good, the acting is great, I think everyone gives strong performances, no weak links here, also the cinematography is great, some really nice shots and coloring, kudos to the technical team, unfortunately what good is all of this if the story isn't compelling enough, i've seen short films where the acting is less than stellar but great plots that pull you in and make up for weak acting, the problem is these sisters just aren't that interesting, simple as that, or maybe they are, but the writing oddly made this film one dimensional and linear with its plot. We fail to connect with the characters ultimately, and the film just plods along. Honestly the Wikipedia entry is more interesting.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
I don't get the bad reviews
It's not a perfect show, but from the first 3 episodes that have been released it's intriguing- there's an overall uneasy feeling, the acting is very good for the most part (the scenes between Melissa Mcarthy and Bobby Cannavale's characters steal the show) and the scenery is beautiful!! I definitely will be watching the other episodes as they are released.
Young Royals (2021)
Minority View
Obviously I'm in the minority here but, I found the show as a whole rather uninteresting. It has a 99% on Rotten tomatoes and 8.6 here, so after watching the series I ended up watching it again to make sure I wasn't crazy,,, It's not a terrible show by any means- the acting was very good, cinematography excellent, but most of the plots were half baked or just downright boring, I believe this show would have worked better as a movie rather than a mini series.
Dark Places, Deadly Illusions (2021)
365 Days Was More Entertaining Than This
I read the reviews on IMDB before watching and so I knew this wasn't going to be racking up the Academy Awards, but I try to approach any movie with an open mind,,, the first half was actually ok, the tension was building and you could tell something crazy was going to happen, however it was a complete let down, this movie is the Walmart version of 50 Shades of Grey.
Hamilton (2020)
VASTLY Overrated
Maybe 2 songs are memorable that you might be humming the next day, but the rest are completely unforgettable, and VERY long
The costumes and set design are awesome, if you like rapid fire rap throughout the whole show then this is for you, the King George character is really the star of the show...
Élite (2018)
Wasn't in to Season 3
Season 2 was wild and crazy and fun, I liked the new characters, storylines and direction, Season 3 was very boring, I couldn't wait for it to be over tbh
Gisaengchung (2019)
My God People, Really?? Get Your heads out of the sand
After reading all the glowing reviews, especially about how this film is one of the best of the decade I had to see it for myself- the plot it self wasn't anything ground breaking, and while the technical aspect of the film were flawless and i enjoyed it for the first hour, the ending was a total let down (lots of plot holes that I won't get into here) I agree with some other reviewers, the Park family weren't your typical rich snobs, the father worked for his money and came home home and was always there for his children and polite to the domestics, the problem was the family was just too darn naive and foolish, but not terrible people by any means, all in all just a mixed bag, Shoplifters was a much more engaging and heart felt piece of foreign cinema, and I highly recommend watching that!!
Ad Astra (2019)
best part were the first 10 minutes
First 10 minutes best part, then turns into a slow movie
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Blurry camera, geography errors, and plot holes
I had high hopes of this movie, the critics and general audiences have given it really good reviews, however there are some things that didn't work,
The camera work was really blurry, so bad a lot of the time the actors' faces were blurred, maybe to do with the 20,000 dollar budget??
Also, being from North Carolina and familiar with the Outer Banks it is a thin strip of land with sounds on one side and the Atlantic ocean on the other, not marshland as this movie portrays, I looked it up and see it was filmed in Savannah GA, that could have been passable if the movie took place in another place in N.C. however not the OBX
Lastly, you mean to tell me the employee from the nursing home just randomly finds them randomly?? also the people that are pursuing Zac and Tyler just happen to find them in the backwoods during a wrestling match?? LOL
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
kept checking the time
Can't believe this is anywhere close to the IMDB top 250 (at #148!!) I can't spoil anything b/c there's nothing to spoil with no plot, although I will say the last 30 minutes are Tarantino, but this is by far my least favorite film of his, I can't believe this is the same man who gave us Pulp Fiction and True Romance
Frankenstein's Monster's Monster, Frankenstein (2019)
Not the Niece: Low budget fun
While part of me was questioning why this was even made, I just couldn't look away. The whole plot was rather absurd and seemed like it was written by two high school boys for a short film project, however I was intrigued by the plot twists and obvious hommages to The Room. All in all, if you can appreciate low brow humor, then this 32 won't be a waste of your time
Toy Story 4 (2019)
let's call it for what it is, a cash grab
This movie didn't need to be made, should have stopped after the third, which was pretty near perfect
Kinky Boots: The Musical (2019)
Fun
Wonderful production, I can't believe i'm going to say this but I think I prefer watching these musical events on the big screen rather than live
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
A tepid look at a true monster
Let's be real, the movie trailer made it seem like was going to be a bloody gore fest, but in reality this movie was more of a character study, similar to the 2017 movie My Friend Dahmer, thats not to say the movie isn't enjoyable, because it is, as Zac Efron gives a good performance, however if you're looking for something less paint by the numbers then you might want to check out the Ted Bundy tapes, also on Netflix
The Mustang (2019)
Bring a pillow for this one, folks
This movie is dull as dish water, none of the characters are likeable, and the movie just leaves a bad taste in your mouth, somehow it moves pretty fast, but if you must watch this drivel wait until it's on cable tv
Us (2019)
over hyped, fails to deliver
This has absolutely so much going for it - beautifully filmed, with a magnificent, heart pounding score and a stunning performance from Lupita- but crashes and burns in plot holes, confusion, and cartoon supporting acts,,,Winston Duke, not his finest two hours- don't be surprised if he's nominated for a Razzie award
People need to be more objective and not let anybody mess with your head (media, etc.) and let you think that depraved and dark histories are work of art.
Leaving Neverland (2019)
disturbing truth
In this story there is plenty of guilt to go around. Michael clearly was a disturbed person who to a large degree was cultivated into what he became as a result of his upbringing and abuse at the hands of his parents especially his father Joe who was mean-spirited and regularly beat and smacked Micheal around if he didn't directly follow his demands. This does not absolve Micheal from the terrible things he did, but his situation did cultivate Michael to have a "separate" world or personality in his mind that only he could get to. This is a survival mechanism of our minds that often happens to mind control victims, so this is a reasoning for his strange psychological behavior. In his new personality HE was in control, and he realized this and once he became rich and famous he and his secret personality could get away with just about anything, and having been conditioned to being so secret to himself as to avoid abuse from his father is how he became so "strange" because NOW he didn't have to listen to anyone, and everyone suddenly had to listen to him. I believe that's how Michael became so disturbed, and anyone who suggested he needed help or was weird was fired. He now was under control, and was conditioned to being sneaky and in a way I think the fact that people were "concerned" about his strangeness only encouraged him to be more strange or as strange as he wanted to be almost as a sub-conscious punishment to those who caused him to be so unnatural. His story is a sad cautionary lesson for humanity in the future to recognize these traits and behaviors and to intervene somehow to get help for everyone involved. If there is a big villian in this story Michael's father is just as big or worse than Michael because his motivation was MONEY, and he collected massively from Michael, and Michael probably just wanted to be a normal kid, but was prevented from that, and I hope as witnesses we all learned something from that story.
Why else would he want to sleep in the same bed as pre-teen boys so often? His staff say that none of them ever saw him show any kind of physical intimacy with a woman, even his two wives, and the mother of his children whom he was married to has said that they never once had sex together. He had a full staff around him his entire life, including security everywhere he went, yet in his entire life he was never interested in a single woman, but instead chose to sleep with young boys without anyone around and alarms throughout the hallway leading to his bedroom, although he had extreme security and that hall was the only part of his house that he went to extreme measures. He could have had security outside his door if he was worried about anyone getting that close to him at night, but the alarms were set to only alert him in his bedroom without being heard from the hall.
American Crime Story (2016)
People vs Oj simpson: LOVED ----- Versace: BORING
I absolutely enjoyed the first season,,,, even though the OJ simpson case has been played out to death, the writers found a way to keep it fresh, and Sarah paulson absolutely deserved all the awards... But versace is just not as engaging- the acting is exceptional but the story is told in achronoglical order and it's a little confusing to follow at first- the first episode and last episode were good, but everything in between was meh
The Boys Are Back - Bandstand: The Broadway Musical (2018)
Great show
Great show, seeing these musicals on screen through Fathom events just as good than seeing it live, because you can see the facial expressions up close and can understand all the lyrics
Sadly, this show was completely overshadowed by Dear Evan Hansen at the Tony's, which is also another great musical, but Corey and Laura should have been at least nominated for tony's for best acting
Here's hoping the show will embark on a national tour
Every Day (2018)
I thought it was cute lol
This stuff is as deep as a bird bath, so just sit back and enjoy for what it is. It's only It's only an hour and a half so it's a perfect Movie pass date night.
