The O.C. (2003)
Pleasantly surprised
I was in my early 30s when this originally aired so I couldn't relate to the teens or the adults. I got desperate for something to binge so I figured what the hell.
Just like any melodrama, there is a lot that is ridiculous but I have laughed out loud more at some of the lines than I do when watching sitcoms that are meant to be nothing but funny. Adam Brody, Peter Gallagher (who I already loved) and Kelly Rowan are the standouts for me. They deliver their lines with such cheekiness. They make every episode so far.
Granted it's still a teen drama and I'm a little old to be watching it, but there is enough adult drama in it to keep me interested.
The Crown: Queen Victoria Syndrome (2022)
These casting changes
It took me a bit to get used to the changes between seasons 2 & 3 so I'm sure the same will be true now but yuck yuck and yuck.
I'm not a Dominic West fan. I don't know why anyone thinks he is in the least bit handsome. 50 when this aired? He looks more like he's 65-70. And bears no resemblance to Charles whatsoever. And the Diana actress? Scrawny and not nearly as attractive as the previous choice. It's going to be a long season. Why don't they just age up the actors when not that much time has passed?

Hacks: Join the Club (2024)
A chance to do something different ruined
I adore Jean Smart and love smart television. I'm definitely not the target audience as I lean a little more toward the conservative side. However, I can watch, laugh and maybe learn something. It's incredibly disappointing that instead of taking in what the men had to say and having a discourse, Deborah instead chose to be offended and run away. Definitely represents a lot of what is wrong with this country and society. Why can't we have intelligent conversations with others that don't think exactly like we do? A missed opportunity and maybe the episode would have been even better if they had chosen to go that way with it.
People Magazine Investigates: Hollywood Horror Story (2016)
Hard to watch
It's tough enough to watch a story about a murder investigation which involves dismemberment but the butchering of the names is painful as well. Here's an idea, have a meeting with the family member who's being interviewed for the story and get the pronunciation right! It definitely shows a lack of respect to the victims of the crime when not only can't they get it right, but each of them were pronouncing the names differently.
The story itself is interesting and frightening. Don't recommend having anything to eat while watching.
Now I just have to keep typing so this is long enough to get posted.
Tell Me You Love Me (2007)
I'm so torn...
Overall, I found it very compelling. The struggles in the relationships were so real and you could feel the pain. However, a lot of the dialogue and delivery of it was so bad. I'm not sure if it was the actors, the writing or what. Especially the Katie character. She drove me nuts. I wanted to reach through and strangle her. All of the female characters seemed nuts and definitely needed the therapy. Not sure how effective that was for any of them though. Also, why so porny? I'm all for a little titillation but this went way beyond. I wonder if any of the actors who became more well-known regret being this exposed. I saw lot more of all of them than I wanted or needed to.
Tell Me You Love Me: Episode #1.3 (2007)
Did a professional write this?
I find it tough to believe that in all of Hollywood, better writers could not be found. Why would David take his daughter to find an anniversary gift? Furthermore, why didn't he just make an excuse to NOT buy sexy lingerie while being accompanied by his 10 year old daughter? Then to top it off, he brings it with him to dinner with his 2 children present?? What in holy hell?
There was so much more wrong but that was the most painful. The dialogue is so cringe. I know these couples are all in troubled relationships, but I don't understand most of the lines that are written. Who talks like that??
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Punch or Be Punched (2023)
What in the world
The series and this episode are entertaining enough and I know that's what my review should be covering but I can't help myself.
Michael Barnett should count his lucky stars that very little of the important information that jurors needed was allowed to be presented.
And could he be more dramatic. Watching him was painful. I can't believe he found another woman to marry him. If I was witnessing those histrionics, I would have been so embarrassed to be associated with him at all.
Regardless of Natalia's age, she had special needs. How could someone who was an adoptive parent not be found guilty of abandonment even given 1/10th of the facts. Just unbelievable!
Me Hereafter: First She Stole My Baby (2024)
Sets itself apart in the genre
I'm one of those people who loves true crime. I read all the books, watch all the Investigation Discovery shows, etc.
At first I thought the narration by someone acting like the victim was going to be hokey but it works.
This first episode was such a gut punch. That's when you know the story was told in an effective way. The cruelty of the perpetrators is astounding. How could you do that someone? And not all of a sudden but meticulously planning it out? Furthermore, it's shocking that after 3 searches, they didn't hear the baby and didn't notice a big trash bag in the closet or the drawers to a dresser being nailed shut!
Thank goodness the baby survived and is bringing the victim's parents joy and some peace.
You're the Worst (2014)
So good and addictive!
I never heard of this show while it aired. Came across info about it from a BuzzFeed post on Facebook of all places. I binge watched and then was super sad when I finished it.
Many times during the series I was up in the air about who was actually the worst. They all could be considered mentally ill, toxic and incredibly self-absorbed. Yet you find yourself rooting for them. Great casting!
Only a couple of things I could have done without. I'm a TV watcher and largely not your typical networks so I like and am used to edgy but some of the scenes maaaaybe take things a bit too far and not for any good reason IMO.
Also I am 100% all for everyone not looking the same and for women to not be stick figures. Very happy to see real looking women in the shows I'm watching. However Kether Donohue's weight gain was very significant between seasons 3 & 4. She was (and is) beautiful and curvy to begin with but she simply got fat. And it was totally ignored. There should have been some dialogue that addressed it. If a character changed in almost any other way, the script would have covered it. If weight gain and being significantly overweight is so ok, then why completely ignore it?
Loved how they wrapped up the series! It was so well done and satisfying!
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
Worth the watch
After the first 20 minutes, I said aloud (and I was alone), oh my God, let's go already! It moved along so painfully slowly and you had little idea what was going on because of the switching between timelines.
After it gets moving it does keep your attention. Interesting casting choice in John C. Reilly but he was good. Also appreciated that it didn't get too gory...left a lot up to the imagination when it came to the main incident.
If you can be patient through the beginning, it's definitely worth the watch although I am thankful I waited many years after its release to watch or I may have questioned having a child. The young actor playing Kevin portrayed being the spawn of Satan quite well.
ER: Blackout (2007)
Watch if you want to see Abby falling apart and babies crying
It's bad enough watching this episode streaming at my leisure. I feel bad for those who saw it when it originally aired. Parents finally sitting down to relax after putting their kids to bed and having to listen to the endless sounds of kids crying and screaming. Why would anyone think this was a good idea? I'm not one to skip episodes if they further the story but I highly suggest putting the closed captioning on for this one or you may go out of your mind.
Now for the part that makes little sense to me. When Abby wakes up at Moretti's apartment, she may still be a little drunk but you'd think she'd go home and crash. What would make her take her kid to the airport in the middle of the night to try to get a flight? It seems she would know, even if not completely with it, that she wouldn't be able to just immediately hop on a flight.
Watch but have your finger on that mute button.
Suits (2011)
Would have rated higher but for the overuse of one word
I'm in the middle of the fourth season and am enjoying the drama. Really enjoy so many of the characters and the funny banter that gets sprinkled in. I don't care about the use of profanity at all but when it makes NO sense and just seems to be a contest of how many times can they say goddamn in one episode it makes me cringe. I'm hoping that it lessens as I move forward through the seasons but I'm assuming that won't happen.
That being said, I'm not sure what made me wait so long to watch. It is very good and is filling the giant gap left in me by the end of Succession. Glad I found it on Netflix.
Evil Lives Here: Momma Made Me Help (2020)
The worst episode
I knew as soon as this episode started that it probably wasn't going to be worth watching but I did. Everyone handles their trauma in different ways and I can't imagine what this woman dealt with but this never should have aired. The episode that aired before this one was about a woman whose husband killed their children. She was poised and able to tell her story. This woman's trauma had happened at least 30 years prior and she just seemed to lose it during the interview way too many times. She repeated herself a lot and it was super slow and kind of boring. It bordered on cheesy which I know sounds horrible as it's true crime but save yourself the hour and skip this one.
Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
Brilliant and original
Did it take a while to adjust my thinking and understand what was happening here? Yes. And damn I'm glad I gave it a chance. Watching this was an experience. All I could think the whole 2nd season was what a shame it was that this brilliance was wasted on the general public who weren't able to broaden their horizons and try to understand what it was that was going on. Annie was absolutely amazing along with the entire cast. They really pulled off something special. The finale was stunning and so emotional. I hope that the producers and writers keep plugging away and there will be more originality like this in the future. I'm going to make sure I tell all of my friends to take the time and check KCFH out because it deserves to be seen!
Singles (1992)
What's with all the good reviews?
I was impressed with the many great reviews both here and on Amazon. I was hoping the pace would pick up and / or we would see more time in the clubs with live performances. Early appearances by Pearl Jam, Layne Staley and Chris Cornell are the only good things about this movie. Otherwise slow and so boring. Kyra Sedgwick is the only worthwhile of the actors' performances. Bridget Fonda's character is annoying and desperate. Which is generally how I find her to be as well. Definitely reminiscent of Melrose Place apartment house but one episode of MP was far more entertaining and interesting than this.
The Orville: Midnight Blue (2022)
Oh my God, enough already
How many times are we going to have an episode about Topa?? Who cares anymore?
Let's move on, please. Makes me think this is going to be the last season of they've already run out of idea.
Unrelated, but who's Dolly's plastic surgeon?
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Definitely original!
Too funny. I was cracking up at the sex scene and fight scene 😂. Kristin Bell was probably the opportunity to act like Veronica Mars in this nutty role. How do people not get it?? The absurdity starts with the title!
The Ranch (2016)
Cracking me up
I'm only 8 episodes in and I laugh so much and few TV shows make me laugh out loud. So glad I gave it a shot. Sure, some jokes are predictable and it takes an episode or two to appreciate but it's definitely worth a watch if you want something light and funny.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
What was that??
This may very well be one of the worst "films" I've ever seen. The only good thing I can say about it is that Dakota Johnson looked lovely. Other than that, it was a gigantic pile of poo.
The Bold Type (2017)
Kat ugh
Cannot stand the Kat character. She literally does whatever she wants, creates her own rules and then gets all pouty and pissy when things don't go her way.
Episodes have gone downhill.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Great series
So good...a must watch! I thought Kate Winslet and the rest of the cast did a great job especially with the accent. The one and only thing I did not like... i'm from the area, about 20 minutes west and grew up not much further away than that. You can be a little rough around the edges without being a pig. The feet up on the table while eating and talking with a mouthful, etc? It was a little much especially for someone who's middle class, has been married and still looks beautiful (obviously cares sometimes about her appearance), when she wants to.
The Orville (2017)
Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek
Watching a live action show created by MacFarlane and getting annoyed or turned off because it contains his brand of humor is akin to being annoyed when a band releases an album and still sounds like themselves.
Having been a huge ST Next Gen fan, I really like this homage. Some of the jokes fall a little flat but overall, I'm finding it pretty entertaining. My favorite character is Isaac. It's astounding how much the voice sounds like Brent Spiner.
Watch if you like MacFarlane, Star Trek and spoofs.
Disappeared: American Gothic (2017)
A little odd
Like the other reviewer said, the family members are way too dramatic in their interviews. Was super weird.
Safe (2018)
It's worth a watch if you have nothing else on your list
Everyone who left a review must be a critic, an actor, director or some member of the industry because these reviews are rough. It wasn't THAT bad. Sure there were a few things that didn't make sense thrown in but overall, it was pretty entertaining.
Knives Out (2019)
Don't bother
I felt like Daniel Craig was supposed to take the place of the excommunicated Kevin Spacey. What a stupid accent for Craig.
Overall, meh...Pretty boring. Not sure who's watching this movie and saying it's great. Their bar must be set pretty low.
