Married to a Stranger (1997)
A Satisfying Drama with Excellent Performances......
Having Sidney J. Furie as the director of the this film is probably the biggest surprise of this film. Furie, more famous in directing action blockbuster movies, managed the direction swellingly.
Although the story becomes tiring in the last quarter of the film, Jaclyn Smith manages to sustain the dramatic resonance of the film. Smith is a capable performer and when handle by good directors and good scripts, exudes excellence. This is probably her best performance of late.
The only thing is she really looks too beautiful for everyone. I think, she's not being appreciated with her acting talent that much because the camera loves her face so much, that you can't help adoring her "angelic sexy" look while watching the movie.
Hollywood Wives: The New Generation (2003)
The WORST TV MOVIE of ALL TIME !!..and Farrah..ohhh. goddd!!!
Although, I must say that I enjoyed the first HOLLYWOOD WIVES, this new tv movie, based on Jackie Collins' novel, is definitely, the WORST tv movie I've ever seen in my whole life!
And what happened to Farrah Fawcett? Her face is too tight, she can't even smile. Her expressions are the same in all her emotions! It is very sad to see her like this. I wonder what actor Jack Scalia felt during those kissing scenes......she looks like a puppet. Watching her are so stressing cause, you don't know if she will be able to open her mouth and her cheeks are all swollen, like she's got some golf balls inside her mouth!
If she's thinking that starring in this type of movie will resurrect her acting carreer..well, i'm afraid, this movie ruined her flagging career as an actress. Her love scenes in the movie gave me goosebumps, actually. I thought for a second that I am watching a Stephen King movie! It's scarey!!!!
Ditto, with her co-stars. How did Robin Givens ended up getting a role in this movie? Please explain....and Melissa Gilbert..oh god...she's one tv's worst actresses and she's still is after all these years. Why these actresses ended up starring in this movie was a big insult to those fans of these genre(imagine that?!!!).
Avoid this stinker.......
The Rape of Doctor Willis (1991)
An excellent performance from the Queen of TV Movies....
This movie is one of my faves. Although, there was a mixed reviews when the movie was shown years ago, I believe that this is one of Smith best tv movies to date. Bugger me, if I'm wrong, but I think, this a wonderfully acted and well executed drama/thriller.
Although, the ending, I must say, is like your typical soap opera, as a whole, this one is nail biter.
Jaclyn Smith, inspite of other's negative re-action, is indeed delivers one of her best performances. The rape scene was done in good taste without over-reacting and the interogation scene in the police department is an excellent piece for Smith.
It's a pity because Smith is so beautiful on screen and that's why some people cannot take the fact that she's a credible actress, too.
Windmills of the Gods (1988)
Fast, exciting...thriller a'la Sheldon's books....
This is one of the best adaptation of Sidney Sheldon's books. It's fast, exciting, great locales, appealing characters and enjoyable from start to finish.
This is Smith's first foray in this genre. Her on-screen chemistry with "Mr.Cool" himself, Robert Wagner is one of the reasons why this miniseries works.
An all star cast miniseries.
Charlie's Angels (1976)
One of the Best of the '70s!
One of the reasons why this show is still big and popular after all these years, can be attributed to the Angels themselves. I can't think of any other stars in the history of television who can actually enticed the viewing public more than the Angels, especially the MAGIC FOUR namely, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Jaclyn Smith, and Cheryl Ladd (Of course, the other two angels, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts created a sensation too, but the "Magic Four" are the ones who started it all).
I didn't had a chance to see the first season when it was first broadcast, as I was very "young" then, but lucky me, it was a huge success and was re-played again and again, every year. Funny, because a lot of people thought the series lasted until 1983 or 1985 because it was like being re-played forever!
I must say, that the first season is the best of the rest and the chemistry of the original three are just wonderful. The second series with Cheryl Ladd was excellent too, but everyone knows that Jackson and Ladd were not in good terms, so, I guess, it affects the way the people look at them.
I started as a fan of Kate Jackson, I reckon, for she's the only known star before the series started. But the two other lovely angels are hard to ignore. Fawcett is so bubbly and appealing while Smith is the most beautiful angel you can think of. But,I am still surprised up to now, why Fawcett became the more popular angel during her time on the show.
She was even dubbed the sexiest of all the angels, where in fact, I believe, it is Jaclyn Smith, who's got the most curvaeous body of the three and looks great in that famous "white bikini" on the show. Even, in the hair department, I believe that Smith's hair is actually more flouncy and sexier than Fawcett. But then, I guess, Fawcett's popularity came right up with the released of her poster which was very timely for the show. But all in all, the original three are just wonderful.
Then came, Cheryl Ladd. She's a welcome addition to the show. She's sexy, beautiful and very charming. Her introduction to the show with ANGELS IN PARADISE is one of my fave episodes and one the best of the series. Who can forget the scene when they're about to rescue Charlie in the yacht? Ladd came out from the water in a bikini with Jaclyn Smith (in her tiniest in a "green" bikini). No wonder the second season became more popular than the first one. I called this, the BIKINI FEVER!
Then, Jackson, left the show. I believe, that Shelley Hack, did a wonderful job as the next angel, actually. Her characer speaks for her action in the show. Remember, the scene with Bosley in "LoveBoat Angels," when she told him that she's a bit scared to be part of the group because of what they have started already? Well, maybe her portrayal of her character was just too classy for the show but she's actually a stand out in the show. I also think that she's one of the two best-dressed angels on the show --the other one is Jaclyn Smith.
Smith and Hack are in they're best when they're together. I like their chemistry on the show. It's a pity, she only lasted one season.
The last of the Angels, Tanya Roberts is a fave, too. She's got this fabulous body and sexy eyes. Roberts, actually became more popular overseas and the bikini fever is back again. She was, obviously, given all the bikini scenes on the show. With Smith wanting to leave and Ladd, just happy to go along with the show, Roberts was given the responsibility to carry the show. Alas, the chemistry, didn't work out.
The show opened a lot of things to women on television. Sad, to say, none has the charisma of the angels. I think, that's one of the reasons, why television is not as exciting as before in the '70s!
Nightkill (1980)
A High-bending Suspense Thriller!
This is supposed to be Jaclyn Smith's first major feature after declining to star in the James Bond movie "Moonraker." But the film was largely unreleased in the cinemas. It did get a major cinema released though, internationally and created a following (at least, for people who loves this kind of genre).
Inspite of some inept direction, (one example is when Smith is trying to explain to her friend, played by Sybil Danning, what happened the night before and why her friend's husband came to see Smith --the dubbing was so bad), this movie is one of my favourite thrillers of all time.
The story is very original and will keep you guessing up to the last minute. Very satisfying and the performances are superb.
Jaclyn Smith is absolutely gorgeous and delivers the best performance in this film. James Franciscus, who starred with Smith in JACQUELINE BOUVIER KENNEDY movie, is also marvelous in a very short memorable role. They both look great on screen and of course, veteran actor Robert Mitchum is at his best. Except for some "blah" performances of the supporting cast, the movie will keep you on your seat.
The shower scene is probably the best thriller "shower" scene I've seen in the movies (well, of course, aside from Janet Leigh in "Psycho" )and it was executed excellently.
I can't wait to see a re-make of this film, why?, because, this is what a thriller should be! Paging hollywood!!!!
Rage of Angels (1983)
Here's to the Best of the 80's!!!
I kinda miss the '80s actually, when it comes to television! They don't make miniseries anymore like they used to. This is a perfect example of why the '80s are so huge and bigger than the movies.
This major tv-miniseries based from the bestselling novel by Sidney Sheldon, catapulted Jaclyn Smith as the undisputed QUEEN OF TV MINISERIES. If I'm not mistaken, there was no other actress before her that was dubbed as the Queen. Yes, Richard Chamberlain, was the King of TV-Miniseries but no actress claimed the title of the Queen and you can see why critics and the viewing public bestowed the title to her. A big major event when it was released and ratings blockbuster, that the producers wanted to create a tv-series after it became the toast of tv town. Smith, did star in a sequel three years after and most hollywood stars wants to star in any Sheldon based movies right after!
This movie is full of exciting characters, shot in beautiful locales, wonderful performance by the players and seductively appealing performance by Jaclyn Smith. This is basically like reading Sheldon's books. If you're going to start watching it, make sure you don't do anything or you're not working the following day because you won't be able to stop. It's like an addiction.
I can't think of any actress in TV Hollywood, who can really glued viewers to their television like Smith does to her fans. Smith and Armand Assante should do more movies together.
Jaclyn Smith is at her best in this outstanding miniseries and this one is worth adding in your collection.
Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
Loud...animated version of the series!!!
I had trouble seeing this movie in the cinema. The music is too loud especially the "bike" scene.
ONE REASON WHY SEE IT OR BUY THE DVD : JACLYN SMITH....my goodness, this woman hasn't aged a bit. It would have been a lot better though if she was given an action scenes. After all, her character Kelley Garrett is the most adept among the original angels in martial arts. And please in the next movie, put her in a bathing suit!
Florence Nightingale (1985)
One of the Best TVMovies of the 80s
This movie created a lot of stir during the filming of the movie, with Jaclyn Smith playing the legendary British nurse and Anthony Richmond (Smith's husband-then) producing the film. But all in all, this is an outstanding production. From costume, cinematography, dialogues, setting and acting by all the cast.
Jaclyn Smith, I reckon, delivers a very moving performance and she's wonderful in a period costume. Her on camera scenes with Timothy Dalton are absolutely exquisite (it's a pity, producers of the miniseries' "Scarlett" probably missed this film and didnt cast the two instead.)
Bootleggers (1974)
Highly Entertaining....
Saw this movie many years ago and got interested when Jaclyn Smith became popular, so popular in fact, that the producers decided to re-titled the movie as "Bootlegger's Angel," to capitalized Smith's later stardom.
There's nothing extra special about the film but it's highly entertaining with excellent performances from all the cast. Smith is a revelation -- she's really born to play Charlie's angel and boy, oh, boy, she can hold a gun with poise and style!
