Miami Vice (2006)
worst mann film ever
Don't bother seeing this picture. Its the worst Michael Mann film ever made. Michael Mann is a great artist, but this falls short. I don't know if he was responsible for the two leads, but it was a fatal error. Although Foxx was good in Collateral, he and Farrell are a disaster in this film. I would have gone with unknowns or semi stars. Gary Oldman in Farrells role would have been interesting. Or Oldman in the Castillo role. Towles does a nice job as Coleman. Most of the other roles in the film are forgettable. I've seen many of Manns films multiples of times. HEAT is his masterpiece. What a great film. In My Top 100 of all time. I would follow this with Manhunter at two, Thief at three, The Insider at four, and Last Of The Mohicans at five. Hopefully Mr. Mann isn't finished making great films. I've enjoyed his work for many years.

Hawaii Five-O: 'V' for Vashon: The Father (1972)
A must see for any fan of television history
This show, the only three-parter of the series, is one of, if not the best of the entire series. This three parter could have been on the big screen. The major actors (Harold Gould, Luther Adler, Robert Drivas, Don Knight) all give excellent performances, and many of the Five-O stock performers (Arthur Hee, Moki Palacio, Yankee Chang, David Espinda, Galen Kam, Robert Costa, Beau Vanden Ecker) are on hand as well. There are freeze-frames employed during a courtroom sequence in part one, and when McGarrett looks out his office to the building across the street in part two. Robert Luck plays Sullivan, who was "pushing junk to high school kids." During the final show, lawyer Harvey Mathieson Drew (John Stalker) is being blackmailed by the elder Vashon. Kwan Hi Lim plays the Vashons' very slimy henchman Tosaki.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
Eastwood has gone senile
What a shame that Hollywood has to spit on the graves of World War II Vets. According to this film, the vets were bumbling racist idiots who felt that they did nothing for this world. We would now be speaking Japanese and/or German if it had not been for these fine people. The Jew (or any other minority for that matter) would be as extinct as an dinosaur. The film flashes back and forth from present day to World War II so much that your head spins. This a B movie with cutting room floor battle scenes from Saving Private Ryan. The script writers and editor obviously hate America. Every 20 minutes the film flashes to the present day with a vet declaring "I'M NO HERO". Let me tell you something Eastwood, THESE MEN WERE HEROES...
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Pretty strong meat there from Sam Peckinpah...
First of all, how did this film ever make an R rating? If your not old enough to drink, you shouldn't be allowed to see this film. That said, this modern Western is a great visual treat. It has style and then some. The only problem is that the violence has little or no impact after a while. This film begins to resemble an Monty Python blood bath sketch. After a while you don't care who or what is being slaughtered. Its still one of the best films I've seen in 2003. Tennis anyone?
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
EVER FEEL YOU'VE BEEN CHEATED?
To best explain the feeling after viewing the Matrix Reloaded is to quote Johnny Rotten at the Pistols final performance... The Matrix Reloaded is insulting on many levels. I would have rather ran my $9 (CA prices) through a paper shredder. The second film reveals nothing new accept for Larrys' motivational speaking prowess, Keanus' Jesus-like healing powers, Zion loves The Soul Train, & "The Man" is evil (my bad, that's the unwritten narrative in the original Matrix as well). The film then has the yarbols to hit the brakes and tell us "To Be Continued"... What? You've got to be kidding me? They want another $9 so I can see the end of this fluff? You wouldn't catch my cold in the next Matrix. Some movies muddy their waters to make them appear deep. Don't dive in, this film goes up to your ankles.
