I watched this as one of the pilots on Amazon Prime. I get that the yoga "scene", particularly as it exists in LA, is ripe for satire. This attempt at skewering the ersatz enlightened is, however, too broad. The characters, other than the lead actor, are all stock sitcom cutouts. There is the wacky, slutty instructor who lives in a drug rehab halfway house. There is the guy buddy who is a therapist, you know the wacky kind of therapist friend. There is the Topanga Canyon hippie father, played by Kris Kristofferson, (who really looks bad by the way) who used to grow pot but has been run out of business by Medical Marijuana. There is the "totes" cool dude actor/yoga instructor and the whiny yoga instructor. You get the picture.
It's too bad, because it could be a decent show.

Great show! More please!!! Looove the lead, the locale, Paget Brewsterr whom I adored on HUFF and the writing is really witty and funny. YAY! Something to watch that I really like in between binging on seasons of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. Robin Schiff, who created the show wrote ROMY AND MICHELLE which I loved as a movie and loved as a stage show. And the complete innocence and cluelessness of the guy and Kris Kristofferson as his day are kind of inspired and most entertaining. Also love the diabolical masseuse/manager of the yoga studio and, well everything about it. The insecurities of the guys on the show is refreshing--a different perspective that's good for men and women alike. So keep 'em coming!

Can't wait to see what happens next. Will our handsome man-child wake up to reality and actually become a responsible person and stop treating women as objects without losing his good natured and kind hearted soul? Or will he become dragged down by real life's ups and downs now that he is responsible for others besides himself? Loved the satirical take on L.A. and on the Yoga Culture. Some very clever funny writing. I've lived in L.A. for many years so I can tell you truthfully, not all of Down Dog is satire! I'm very interested to see how the characters change and develop over the course of the show, as well as seeing what other satirical takes on the L.A. Scene the writer, Ms. Schiff, has up her sleeve.
This air headed series seems like not only is it aimed at trying to push teen-agers into sexual excitement but it seems like it was written by teen-ager sin the midst of sexual excitement ... which might sound kind of fun except the whole thing seems to be one oral sex innuendo after the other.
These actors might as well be puppets which is what they look like plastic and stylized ... and about as intelligent and real as puppets. Absolutely awful ... the first Amazon series pilot I have really not liked at all. Hope this one is dropped.
