Tony Todd, the prolific actor who brought an evil presence to the horror movie franchises Candyman and Final Destination, has died at the age of 69.
Todd’s rep confirmed the actor’s death to Variety, adding that he died Wednesday at his home in Marina Del Rey, California. No cause of death was provided.
Over a career that spanned five decades, Todd accrued hundreds of on-screen and voice-acting credits, beginning with a role in the 1986 Vietnam War classic Platoon. Following a leading turn in the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead,...

The premise of Glen A. Larson's 1978 sci-fi series "Battlestar Galactica" was high-concept and complex. It took place far from Earth, at the end of humanity's millennium-long war with a species of robots called the Cylons. The Cylons themselves were built by a long-extinct race of humanoid reptiles, and they seem poised to offer the same fate to humankind. Feeling that the writing was on the wall, a human named Count Baltar (John Colicos) betrayed humanity and sided with the Cylons, putting the robots hot on the trail of the Battlestar Galactica, a massive starship carrying most of the galaxy's last-known humans. Their goal is to find a long-lost "thirteenth tribe," a human colony that was said to have settled on a distant planet called Earth.
The assumption for viewers was that "Battlestar Galactica" was set in the distant future, but at the end of the 24th episode of its only season,...

For this writer, it has been really cool to see actor David Dastmalchian’s career take off ever since we saw him portray one of Joker’s henchmen in The Dark Knight. Since then, he’s appeared in the Ant-Man films and several of Denis Villeneuve’s previous projects (Prisoners and Blade Runner 2049), he’s co-starred in several television series, and genre fans should recognize Dastmalchian from his work in films like Sushi Girl and The Belko Experiment. David even thrilled horror fans everywhere with his portrayal of Dr. Fearless, his vampiric host of the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, earlier this year. And as if all of that wasn’t enough, Dastmalchian is celebrating his latest role in The Suicide Squad as well as his vocal work in both parts of Batman: The Long Halloween and Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune adaptation as well.

Mark Hamill may have decades of experience under his belt as an actor, but he doesn’t like to watch himself on screen. “Have you ever heard your voice on a tape recorder and you go, ‘Oh, that’s not me’?” he said to IndieWire. “It’s like that times a thousand, because it’s how you look, how you walk, and you always — at least, I do — question the choices you make.”
It’s a surprising lack of certainty from a man who outwardly tends to project confidence, whether it be as Jedi master, animated Joker, or rambunctious Twitter user. The latest project to draw upon his noted gravitas is the History Channel series “Knightfall,” which in its second season introduces Hamill as Talus, the Templar veteran who becomes a harsh yet not easily defined mentor for Landry (Tom Cullen).

With the anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on February 23rd 2018, I got a chance to speak with actress Cortney Palm about what we can expect from the film, her character Agent Toria Boon and filming inside the haunted Holmesburg Prison.
What can we expect from Death House?
Death House is one hell of a ride. From start to finish the audience will be wondering what is going on and how the protagonists are going to survive. It’s more than just a bloody horror/thriller, there is depth to the Death House and characters beyond what you think you’re getting from just viewing the trailer. Think about what the CIA did in our history in regard to LSD experiments, and the meaning of Dante’s Inferno, that’s what you’re getting with Death House.
How did you become involved in the film Death House?

Ever since Ronda Rousey stepped into the Octogan and took the world by storm, Female Mma has gone to a whole new level. Everyone from Ufc to Hollywood is trying to cash in on this new wave of female athletes. Female Fight Squad is the latest attempt from Hollywood to capitalize on the swelling popularity of Women's Mma. Starring martial artist, and stunt performer, Amy Johnston as the main lead, Rebecca, in a prototypical fight movie. A retired fighter must get back into the ring to save a loved one from a debt they owe. As any good throwback fighting movie it is only natural to cast an actor from the 80's or 90's. Dolph Lundgren is that actor who stars in this movie, and doesn't overshadow the story at all.
The plot of the movie is nothing we haven't already seen from any Mma/fighting movie. A former fighter,...

Cortney Palm is gaining notoriety for her role in the surprise hit zom com Zombeavers. It’s about beavers mutated into bloodthirsty zombies by a drum of toxic waste that falls into the river.
They indulge their undead, bucktoothed, bloodlust on an unsuspecting group of young people in a nearby vacation cabin. Yes, you read that right. It sounds too good to be true, but it is. I feel pretty privileged to talk to Cortney who plays Zoe. I not only get some backstory on what I predict will be an underground cult classic, but also some interesting facts about a young actress with a lot of promise.

To prematurely write off Zombeavers would be an easy task based on the numerous trailers featuring zombified beaver puppets who growl angrily at the camera, as the footage suggests a watch that takes B-Movie stupidity to realms yet unexplored. Who needs a bunch of undead beavers thwapping their tails against the ground while they’re trying to gnaw through a group of drunken fratheads and their sorority babes? Pointless nudity, radiated beaver dams, filthy double entendres, goofy creature work – do horror fans really need to be subjected to such an untamed zombie/animal hybrid?!

Just about everything you need to know about Zombeavers is right there in the title. Zombie beavers (should) sound ridiculous, and so it’s a ridiculous movie that follows, strangely capturing your attention for some 70-odd minutes of bloody shenanigans.
The story is lifted from a horror template: a group of co-eds are joined by their obnoxious beaus at a cabin retreat where toxic waste has infected some local rodents, and thus mayhem ensues. That’s it. So it is with equal parts earnestness and absurdity that Zombeavers declares itself a feature film, dedicating itself to actual characters and a simple plot while trying to maintain a straight face with antagonists in the form of killer beavers.
It starts hilariously enough, as a pair of truckers exchange snappy, vulgar dialogue while not at all paying attention to the road. Rather, the driver isn’t giving heed, and when an accident occurs,...

For at least the past few years, we have covered the Toronto After Dark Film Festival annually. Jeff Konopka attends the festival every year, and he usually brings some really good coverage back with him. I am always jealous when he’s there, because I’m listening to the footage that he has recorded, hanging out in a crowded bar talking with filmmakers, as well as other journalists attending the event. It sounds like a lot of fund, and I’d love to make the trip one year. Some of my favorite recent films were shown at Toronto After Dark. Cheap Thrills, Motivational Growth, The Machine, We Are What We Are, Resolution, The Battery, one of my all-time favorite films, Some Guy Who Kills People, and much, much more. Recently, the first 10 films for the 2014 festival were announced, and among them were some highly anticipated films. I will list them all below,...

Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication.
The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.

Michael Biehn stars alongside William Forsythe. Jennifer Blanc-Biehn produces with Loris Curci and Hackybox Pictures. The film's co-stars include Mma fighter Krzysztof Soszynski, Chris Browning ("Sons of Anarchy," The Book of Eli), Ricco Ross (Aliens), Jeannine Kaspar (“House of Lies,” “Nip/Tuck”), Andy Mackenzie (Sushi Girl, "True Blood"), Electra Avellan (Grindhouse, Machete Kills), Mark Burnham (Wrong, Wrong Cops), Jennifer Blanc (The Victim,...

Here's our first bit of Ant-Man casting since Yes Man director Peyton Reed took the reigns on the troubled Marvel flick. We'd thought all of the actors were in place, but now Deadline report that David Dastmalchian has signed on to play an "unspecified role", which Marvel is said to be keeping under wraps. Of course it could just be a minor role, but if there's secrecy around it there's also a good chance that he'll be playing an established Marvel character. Any ideas? Dastmalchian has also appeared in the multiple-award winning psychological thriller The Employer, Sushi Girl and Prisoners. He was most recently seen on the FX comedy The League, and Showtime's Ray Donovan. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit...

Director: Jordan Rubin; Screenwriter: Jordan Rubin, Jon Kaplan, Al Kaplan; Starring: Cortney Palm, Rachel Melvin, Hutch Dano, Jake Weary, Lexi Atkins, Peter Gilroy Running time: 85 mins
This is a movie about zombie beavers, and beaver zombies. What more, exactly, do you need to know? With Zombeavers, director Jordan Rubin and writers Al and Jon Kaplan have made an irreverent, low-budget spectacle in the tradition of horror comedies like Sharknado and Piranha 3D. The film features a mostly unknown cast, with a brief but funny cameo from a mustachioed John Mayer and leadwork from Cortney Palm, perhaps best known for her role in 2012's Sushi Girl.
Rubin and co use the the typical cabin in the woods model to set up their story - pragmatic Mary (Rachel Melvin), sex-crazed and potty mouthed Zoe (Palm), and a post-breakup depressed Jenn (Lexi Atkins) decide to go on a girls weekend in a country house by the lake.

The latest additions are Noah Hathaway (Sushi Girl, Troll, Neverending Story) rounding out the prison guard crew as Alvarez and Brian Thompson ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Fright Night Part 2, Star Trek: Enterprise) as the lead role of death row inmate Richard Sullivan.
Several other actors are in talks to fill out the cast, which is very close to being complete, so expect more soon!
Producer, co-writer (with Erin Kohut), and creator of the graphic novel Peter Simeti previously promised, "We are making a horror film that has as much 'brains' in it as it does 'guts'."
The adaptation is being directed by Chad Ferrin. Also appearing in the film are Bill Oberst,...

I distinctly remember the hype surrounding the release of the original Cabin Fever movie – written and directed by then newcomer Eli Roth, the film was touted as a new breed of horror, made for genre fans by a genre fan. I also remember when the film was eventually released there was somewhat of a backlash, after all it wasn’t much more than a mix of backwoods horror and “melt movie”. But the film did well enough to warrant a sequel which, after wrangles between director Ti West (House of the Devil) and the films producers – who re-edited the film to such an extent that West disowned the movie, was released in 2009. Slammed by even those who loved the original film, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever...

Zombeavers. It’s all in the title. And given that such a title excites us here at Dread Central (but not in a necrophilia-bestiality kind of way, we promise), we figured it was high time to sit down with director Jordan Rubin to get the skinny on his upcoming horror-comedy feature.
Starring Cortney Palm (Sushi Girl), Hutch Dano (Zeke and Luther), Peter Gilroy, Rachel Melvin (Dumb and Dumber To), Jake Weary, Lexi Atkins, and Bill Burr, Zombeavers was written by Jon Kaplan, Al Kaplan, and director Rubin.
It revolves around three college girls who go on a carefree vacation of drinking games, topless sunbathing, and sexual exploration, only to find that their frolicking fun comes to an abrupt end when toxic zombie beavers try to eat them.
Evan Astrowsky (Cabin Fever), Chris Bender (American Pie, The Butterfly Effect), J.C. Spink (A History of Violence), Christopher Lemole (Blinder), Tim Zajaros (From...

So we're just into February and already we have a leading contender for 'Film of the Year'. That's right folks, the first trailer for Zombeavers has arrived, and more importantly, it's got teeth. From the creators of American Pie, Cabin Fever and The Ring, the directorial debut of Jordan Rubin stars Billy Burr (Breaking Bad), Cortney Palm (Sushi Girl) and Rachel Melvin (Dumb and Dumber To). Check out the trailer below and see for yourself, we'll keep you posted on news and release dates as always. We really want to end on a beaver gag but we'll be dammed if we can think of one. Synopsis: Zombeavers is an action-packed horror/comedy in which a group of college kids staying at a riverside cabin are menaced by a swarm of deadly zombie beavers. A weekend of sex and debauchery soon turns gruesome as the beavers close in on the kids.

With filming of Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods set to begin July 1st in and around Houston, Texas, all the major players are lining up, and handling effects will be Vincent Guastini's V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio.
Hidden in the Woods star Michael Biehn met Guastini when they briefly worked together on Sushi Girl (in which Hitw co-star Andy Mackenzie also appeared), and Biehn was so impressed with V.G.P.'s work, the producers asked Guastini to come on board and supervise with Evelyn Belmar and Vanessa Cartier. Filmmaker Thomas J. Churchill provided us an exclusive first look at the new trailer, behind-the-scenes video, and stills for his upcoming and ambitious zombie/period feature Lazarus last night, and we think you should have a look at the film's sexy, 1950’s goodness.
Set in 1957 Hollywood, writer/director Churchill’s Lazarus revolves around the character of George Lazarus (Ray Capuana), an insurance investigator who schedules routine interviews with twelve employees of the Deadly Sin Cigarette Company upon receipt of a rather suspicious insurance claim. In the process he learns that all twelve had recently been fired for being sick at the job, and then subsequently and without a trace, he disappears. Two weeks later, with Lazarus now a missing person, his heart-sick fiancée, Bethany Loomis (Natalie Victoria), along with Chip (Kevin Franklin), undertakes the task of finding him. By retracing his steps, she learns that what was initially regarded as...

Sushi Girl is a delicious film; it perfectly shows why independent cinema is where my heart lies. The film is unusual, it's raw, it's funny, it's gory and it is a damn good time. My experience with watching this film is possibly the most unique one I have ever had.
I met some of the cast Noah Hathaway, James Duval and Andy Mackenzie and the director Kern Saxton at Supanova Expo, after chatting to them I made the promise I'd watch the film that night and return the next day to discuss it. So the very next day I got to discuss the film with those guys again, and also Tony Todd. What a thrill that was, chances like that don't come by often. It was a real pleasure to tell them all I loved the film, nothing beats the smiles and energy that comes with that.

The horror film Dead Sushi attempts to capitalize on two current filmic trends: zombies (self-explanatory) and sushi (see also: Sushi Girl, Jiro Dreams of Sushi). In this film, sushi—both its preparation and ingestion—is observed with a sanctity commonly reserved for religious sacraments. An affront to a chef's technique is akin to degrading one's honor, resulting in the need for hara kiri (or, in this case, murder). But dishonored chefs aren't the only ones to fear in this sushi zombie film.
When aspiring sushi chef Keiko (Rina Takeda) is dismissed by her father, a master sushi chef, because she's a smelly woman who can't properly handle the sushi, she seeks employment at a hotel that literally sustains itself on its sushi menu. But lurking in the alley of the hotel is a seeming bum who has the ability to reanimate animals (namely fish), a power he intends to use...
