- An Israeli man, born Shimon Hayut, traveled around Europe, presenting himself as the son of Russian-Israeli diamond mogul Lev Leviev. He used the dating app Tinder to contact women as Simon Leviev, and tricked them into lending him money that he never repaid. He created a fake google profile, highlighting private jets, cool cars and parties all over the world.
Cecille Fjellhoy (Norwegian) found Simon on Tinder. She talks about how women chase real love, no matter how heartbreaks they have. Her idea of love comes from Disney. Small town girl, hoping for something bigger. She has been on Tinder for 7 yrs and has 1024 matches. Girls want the full package, man who is good looking, ambitious, loves animals and is rich.. Simon had his Instagram link on his tinder profile. On Insta he had many pictures and followers. He loves animals. Simon meets her for coffee at the four seasons hotel. He is dashing and quickly establishes himself as a "prince" of the diamond trade and the CEO of LLD diamonds. He invites her to Bulgaria for a business trip on his private jet. At the airport, the whole team is waiting for them. Simon has a 2 yr old daughter, and his ex, and his daughter join them on the jet. The ex tells Cecille how Simon is a wonderful father and still support her, even though they are not together. They sleep together that night in Bulgaria. Simon sends Cecile back to London as he gets busy with work. Cecile already feels a real connection with him. They start texting on Whatsapp and he sends her expensive gifts. He visits her when she travels to Oslo, and they officially become a couple. He tells her that diamonds is a dangerous business and that he has many enemies. Simon asks Cecille to move in with him. Budget is $15K per month.
Pernilla Sjoholm (Swedish), is looking for a funny, smart and impulsive guy. She also finds Simon on Tinder. He said he was living in Amsterdam and was in Stockholm for business. He invites Pernilla to Amsterdam and books a ticket for her. He lives in a nice neighborhood. They had lunch where entire staff knew Simon and the caviar never stopped coming. Later, Simon makes a move on Pernilla, but it doesn't feel right to her so she goes back home. But she misses Simon. He flies over sometimes just to have coffee with her. Pernilla feels they had a special connection.
Simon would charm women with lavish gifts and take them to dinners on private jets using money he borrowed from other women he previously conned. He would later pretend he was being targeted by his "enemies", often sending the same messages and images to each woman, indicating that he had just been attacked with a knife, but that his bodyguard had saved him and was hurt. He then asked his victims to help him financially due to the breach of 'security', allegedly hindering his use of his credit cards and bank accounts; the women would often take out bank loans and new credit cards in order to help. He would then use the money gained through the deception to lure new victims, while essentially operating a Ponzi scheme.
By this point Cecille was "into" Simon 100%. She fell for it hook, line and sinker. She gets a card in her name, but Simon uses that exclusively. He maxes it out soon. Next, he asks Cecille to come to Amsterdam and bring $25K with her. Cecille took out loans to get the cash and meets Simon in Amsterdam. His security team creates a panic situation by stressing that Simon is in danger, his location is known to his enemies and he needs to leave by plane for an unknown destination, like asap. Simon lands in Stockholm, where he met Pernilla.
Simon takes Pernilla for a party, and pays with cash. Pernilla leaves early as she feels uncomfortable, and the next morning, Simon is in Barcelona. Cecille credit card is blocked by Amex, and Simon calls her to talk to Amex and unblock it and to increase the limit. For that, Simon employs Cecille with LLD Diamonds and issues her payslips amounting to $94,000 per month. Amex raises the credit limits. Later, he would pretend to repay his victims by sending forged documents showing fake bank transfers and then break off contact with the victims. Simon showed Cecille proof of transferring $250K into her accounts to take care of all expenses.
Simon calls Pernilla and says he has met his new girlfriend Polina in Mykonos, Greece, and invites her to join them. Polina is a Russian model. He books a $5K a night suite.. Simon gets Cecille to pay for all this, by saying that he is having business meetings and dinners and travel. He spends $20K in 3 days. Pernilla, Polina and Simon go to a billionaire's club in Mykonos, where one table is $2000. Cecille is forced to take out loans of another $40K to fund Simon. Soon, she had loans of $50K from Instabank, $12.5K from DNB and another credit card for $10K, $20K from Monobank, $15K Nordea. Meanwhile Simon takes Pernilla and Polina to Rome to see the Coliseum. The money Simon promised hasn't come into Cecille's account. Cecille has borrowed $250K by now. Simon calls Cecille to Amsterdam and gives her a check for $500K. Back in London, the check bounces. Simon says he already paid her and he is cold and distant. She had 9 creditors. Cecille calls Amex and they send 2 investigators over. Cecille tells them everything and they recognize Simon as a regular conman. Simon had faked everything. Cecille blocks Simon. Amex tells her his real name is Shimon Hayut. In 2015, he defrauded 3 Finnish women. He spent 3 yrs in prison.
Now Simon starts with Pernilla. He says his dad is under arrest and all his cards have been blocked. she gets the same pics of attacks on him and his bodyguard that Simon had sent Cecille. He asks to borrow $30K from her. Cecille contacts a Norwegian newspaper VG (Editor Natalie and Journalist Kristoffer) and shares all her evidence with them. The newspaper finds the names of the 3 Finnish victims and Cecille recognizes one of them as Simon's ex that she met on the plane. The newspaper teams up with an Israeli journalist and finds Shimon's address in Israel. His mother throws them out. The local police confirms that Shimon Hayut changed his name to Simon Leviev in 2017. He did check fraud in Israel in 2011 and fled the country when asked to come to court.
Simons gets Pernilla to borrow $10K more and shows her a transfer receipt for $100K. He gets her to book many flights for him, one by one. The money never arrives. Meanwhile the newspaper journalists find tickets in the name of Pernilla on Cecille's credit card statements. Pernilla learns that Simon is a conman. She forwards the message from the journalist to Simon. The Journalist Erneld meets Pernilla in Stockholm and realizes Simon is running a Ponzi scheme. Pernilla reveals that Simon is in Munich. Natalie and Kristoffer arrive in Munich and coordinate with Pernilla to confront Simon. Simon escapes when he realizes he is being tracked. The next morning Pernilla calls Simon and confronts him with all the evidence that Natalie had shared with her. Simon threatens Pernilla. VG decides to print the story. The Tinder Swindler story goes viral. More victims come forward from all over the world.
Hie current girlfriend Ayleen reads the article and reads Cecille's story. She was already dating Simon for 14 months and had slept with him. She lives in Amsterdam, in the same period when he was dating Cecille. She had already lent him $140K, designer clothes, tickets, fancy dinners. Simon denies the article. Ayleen contacts Pernilla. Ayleen decides to get her money back. She is in the fashion industry and knows Simon's wardrobe is worth a fortune. She keeps telling Simon that she believes him and offers to sell his wardrobe. SImon asks her to meet him in Prague. Before leaving Ayleen receives another credit card from Simon, in the name of David Sharon. She contacts the Dutch police to say that Simon is changing his identity again. In Prague, Simon tries to get a plastic surgery done, but the surgeon refuses as this surgery is only requested by criminals. Ayleen leaves with 3 suitcases full of his clothes. Simon says he wants to marry Ayleen. Ayleen sells everything on eBay. After a few weeks Simon realizes that Ayleen was going to keep the money herself. He sends several aggressive voice messages to Ayleen asking for his money.
Simon has no money coming in and is now sleeping in hostels of $12/night and eating leftovers in a mall. Ayleen finds out that Simon is travelling to Greece and shares the information with the police, and his new name David Sharon. Simon is arrested upon landing. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his crimes in Israel, but released in 5. He was never charged with any fraud against the women he cheated. He lives in Israel as a free man. Cecille, Pernilla and Ayleen are still paying off their debts.
